EDIT: That was kinda mean, but that's what you get for such a jerkwad comment.- SickofSects, on 05/02/2008, -7/+2Why was it a jerkwad comment?
- ShinyDemon, on 05/02/2008, -7/+1Actually, that was kinda awesome. +1
- skunkman62, on 05/02/2008, -1/+6Original Headlines:"iPhone is the most popular cameraphone on Flickr" nice truncation of the facts submitter
- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -2/+2You must be some kind of hardcore Apple hater if you think bryanabdul's comment was jerkwady. Last time I checked, calling someone's photo collection ***** is jerkwad territory.

- andersonrob, on 05/02/2008, -21/+9Just wait til the 3G iphone comes out in late June, especially if its $199 as some are speculating. http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/29/3g-iphone-to-be ... It will blow all phones away.
- AppleGeorge, on 05/02/2008, -8/+9Hey jackass, they never said the 3G iPhone would be $199. They said the current model COULD be dropped to $199.
- SinisterBunni, on 05/02/2008, -0/+5Hey jackass, other "insider" articles have said the 3G iPhone would be $200-250... http://www.iphonefreak.com/2008/04/att-3g-iphone-f ...
- meghalc, on 05/02/2008, -2/+1wouldnt be surprised if they have the same Iphone wih a upgraded 3g chip. Thus, keeping R&D costs down and keeping the same manufacturing process. Its a possibility.

There, fixed it for you.- joeydoo, on 05/02/2008, -6/+24Exactly. What kind of tit would make that statement from just looking at flickr.
All phones have camera's on. The iphone is definitely not the most popular phone... therefore it's not the most popular camera phone at all. Buried as inaccurate.- muledoggie, on 05/02/2008, -1/+3For a phone with but a single model available only 11 months, it is interesting that the iPhone would rank where it does on camera phone uploads to Flickr, in my opinion. With the corrected title "... on Flickr", is accurate, in my opinion.

- Zera, on 05/02/2008, -8/+9Not news. Seriously, there's one iPhone, and what, 40 Nokia camera phone models? Heck, if you add just the top two Nokia models together they blow the iPhone out of the water.
And just when I thought it couldn't get more absurd: FTA: "These graphs show the number of Flickr members who have uploaded at least one photo or video with a particular camera on a given day over the last year."
So this isn't even number of photos, merely number of total members up have uploaded at least one photo. Digg really needs a new Bury category: Not News, but I guess Inaccurate will do.- MikeSD34, on 05/02/2008, -3/+9I'm not saying that the iPhone is the most popular, but you're arguments against it aren't great. The title of the article IS inaccurate in that this data relates only to flickr.
1.) A phone is an individual device. If you want to take two nokia models and lump them together and say the BRAND is more popular go for it. That doesn't mean that a single Nokia phone is more popular then any other single phone from any other company however.
2.) Why would you count the number of photos? This is a user base statistic not a who can upload the most statistic. Just because you upload more then any other person doesn't mean your phone is more popular. - shawnanigans, on 05/02/2008, -8/+3Bury: Duplicate Story

- Philbert, on 05/02/2008, -4/+3I have an iPhone and I might say most common perhaps, certainly not the most popular. I love my iPhone, but my old phone (Sony-Ericsson s710a) had a better camera.
- jabberwolf, on 05/02/2008, -2/+3Yes, a much lower quality photo from the iphone is much better then a high res pic from other phones....
HUH?!?! more mactard ***** as usual ! - moyness, on 05/02/2008, -3/+1I Bet my sister takes more pictures of herself using her nokia phone than all iPhones combined.
inaccurate! - Grimdotdotdot, on 05/02/2008, -1/+2It's probably most popular because the uploaders just want to say to the world 'LOOK AT ME! I HAVE THE iPHONE!'.
- marianomd, on 05/02/2008, -2/+0What about this popularity comparison?

Edit: Uh, its just the most popular on flicker. Your headline is deliberately misleading.- anaesthetica, on 05/02/2008, -3/+4Not having 3G limits the iPhone's popularity. Therefore, OP believes it to be interesting that despite this constraint, the iPhone is nevertheless the most popular camera phone (on Flickr).
It's like beating another guy in a fistfight with one arm tied behind your back. Or something like that. - lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1From article: "One would expect this lead to dramatically increase once a 3G iPhone is released (faster native uploads)."

- killbert24, on 05/02/2008, -8/+1Flickr isn't owned by Apple! But Microsoft might own it soon. Watch your back Apple.
- sonicularulus, on 05/02/2008, -2/+12I would say that the iPhone could have a better camera. It's very low megapixel. Lens will easily scratch. And the lack of a physical button to take pictures is kind of annoying. I also find that the "digital button" on the bottom/side of the screen makes it more difficult to take a picture with one hand.
How would I fix this?
I have no idea. I'm only the consumer, not the designer. I think it's Apple's job to listen to the customer to make a better next gen product.- ShinyDemon, on 05/02/2008, -12/+17No, no, you're doing it all wrong. Apple makes something, and then regardless of its missing features, *****-poor quality, and high price, you give them money for it. Then you wait a year and either buy a new one or open it up because the battery is crap.
- epyon180, on 05/02/2008, -5/+5What about the iphone is ***** poor quality, and how is the battery life crap.
- DeathJux, on 05/02/2008, -0/+4If you've JailBroken your iPhone, there's a great camera-replacement app called Snapture. It turns the volume up/down buttons into shutter buttons, as well as letting you do a bunch of other stuff that isn't built-in.
- SinisterBunni, on 05/02/2008, -11/+3Problem solved ShinyDickface... It is too bad that you are so envious of my iPhone. It shows your knuckle dragging mentality. "Duh, Apple sucks. If they ask a price it is too high cause I can't afford it so it must suck... Duh..." Mine has never been a problem, great quality, great design and my battery is fine after 9 months. So ***** off.
- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -1/+1"ShinyDickface" LOL. Agreed.

- wellyuk, on 05/02/2008, -1/+8The number of megapixels only really matters when you're printing out images. Higher megapixel != better quality.
- Firehed, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Yes, but I'll be the first iPhone owner in line to tell you that its camera sucks. Like almost all cameras in phones, though given what I paid for the thing they could have done better. That said, nobody out there is buying the iPhone for its camera.
- wellyuk, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3Actually, I'd disagree. The quality of the images from the iPhone's camera in decent light is excellent. What sucks about it is it's performance in low light and the functionality is very limited. But if you take a photo outdoors in good light, it produces some of the best images I've seen from a phone camera.
- RomieZ, on 05/02/2008, -2/+2Or if you want to do any sort of editing or cropping...so yes, higher megapixels with better lens = higher quality.
- wellyuk, on 05/02/2008, -1/+1Any sort of editing or cropping? Rubbish. Megapixels have nothing to do with being able to edit or crop the image. Obviously if you're going to crop half the image down, you're going to end up with a small image but higher megapixels has very, very little to do with actual image quality. Better lens? That wasn't what I was commenting on. OBVIOUSLY a better quality lens will produce a better quality image.
- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -2/+1He means zoom-and-crop. Take a photo of a group of people. Then later in your photo editing program, let's say you want to zoom in on and crop one person's face, so that this face is now the size of the original photo. With 2MP, it will look pixelated. With 5MP, it will look fine. With 8MP or 10MP, you could zoom-and-crop on someone's eyeball and it would look fine.

- SitPoMk, on 05/02/2008, -0/+12What's with the big ass drop somewhere in the middle of the graph?
- MyExSucks, on 05/02/2008, -0/+25I believe it is caused by the great depression, but it's hard to tell with no scale on the graph.
- Chordinator, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3Yeah and back then the iPhone was a piece of crap, or so my great grandfather once told us.
- DeathGod321, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Earth day. Just kidding, no amount of environmental awareness is going to separate a trendy flickr photographer from their phone's camera.
- PuyoDead, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1I could very well be wrong (wrong time frame, possibly), but it could have been from that whole flickr censorship fiasco recently. That's just my guess. I definitely remember all camera models dipping down pretty far for that one.
- Skeuomorph, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Given that Flickr says the data is "normalized" so each line is proportionate to the others, instead of to some particular total of photos, then this drop shouldn't be from fewer photos being uploaded.
Instead, it's more likely due to some other model of camera having a huge number of uploads at that time, for example, at the launch of a camera like the Nikon D40 or Canon Rebel XTi, so many excited new users upload from that model that the other models seem to have a brief drop in proportionate popularity.

- 5teady, on 05/02/2008, -6/+1In the but!
- AppleGeorge, on 05/02/2008, -8/+31Too bad my phone takes better pictures than the iPhone, yet it goes unnoticed because it's an LG and not made by the amazing Apple.
- inverselogic, on 05/02/2008, -1/+1Maybe if LG stopped having dumb Iron Man promo commercials...
- ZephyrNinety, on 05/02/2008, -5/+3Yeah, no. Ever been somewhere other than Starbucks?
- mirunit, on 05/02/2008, -3/+13I guess, a 5MP Nokia will still destroy the image quality. On top of that the N82 has a xenon flash and all 5MP's have autofocus and 30FPS 480i Video recording.
- dirtyhipster, on 05/02/2008, -11/+23Since when does most popular = best?
The iphone's camera is ***** compared too most modern phones- ShinyDemon, on 05/02/2008, -3/+5Since Apple? duh...
- KurtangleTN, on 05/02/2008, -2/+10When did anyone say best?
- avalys, on 05/02/2008, -7/+11Yes, but most modern phones have ***** interfaces that make them unpleasant and inconvenient to use.
- ShinyDemon, on 05/02/2008, -10/+8Yes, but most modern phones have BUTTONS that make them unSMUDGY and convenient to use.
fixed- mmacpherson2, on 05/02/2008, -1/+8I personally like the touchscreen interface. That's just my opinion... The screen is easy enough to clean off.
- Philbert, on 05/02/2008, -1/+8Me too. Actually you can only really see the smudges when the phone is turned off (assuming it's normal fingerprint smudges)
- eltrev, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Yep - shinydemon - pick it up and try it - the "buuuut it doesn't have buttons" broken recording is really tired. The iPhone interface gets me where I want to go easily TWICE as my fast as my N82 (I have both). ***** those linty buttons.
- SteveMax, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1The N82's Sony Ericsson-like buttons are a nightmare. Any decent hardware buttons+touchscreen interface is better than a hardware buttons-only or touchscreen-only interface; and a good interface with hardware buttons is better than a touchscreen-only (case in point: what do your computer, TV, etc use?)

- zongamin, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Nobody said it was the best - the article even mentions that the iphone isn't good for photos. *****.
- devilsagain, on 05/02/2008, -3/+24This whole article is stupid.
- Auzy, on 05/02/2008, -2/+11Maybe this has something to do with the fact a lot of your creative crowd use Apple anything..
Buried, the title is wrong. And flickr is targeted towards the creative crowd, so the results will be skewed towards the iphone.- Philbert, on 05/02/2008, -1/+2Depends, most of us 3D artists use PCs
- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -1/+2And most of the Rest-Of-Us artists use Macs.

- murrowman, on 05/02/2008, -3/+9Buried as inaccurate. Misleading title. Title of original article is "iPhone is the most popular cameraphone on Flickr" (note the mention of Flickr).
- zongamin, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1No-one mentioned that before.
- evilelf2407, on 05/02/2008, -4/+29That's because everyone that has an iphone is constantly looking for a reason to pull it out of their pocket so others can see.
- mmacpherson2, on 05/02/2008, -4/+2That is not the case. Most people who have an iPhone are constantly pulling out their iPhones because they like to use their phone! Why do people have to be jackasses? Are you all 13? Most people I have met like to pull out their new phones and play with it when they can.
- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -3/+1I agree with you 100%. Several times, I have seen a circle of Apple haters (I know plenty of them) bad-mouthing a friend's or coworker's iPhone. But then guess what happens? That friend or coworker walks by, and he's on his iPhone or checking something on it, and the haters always timidly ask, "Lemme see?" or "Can I check that out?" Never fails.
- NinjaJoey, on 05/02/2008, -1/+3"Hey, lemme see that. Oh, only 8 gigs? That's not much more than the first iPod, right? Wow, it's got a camera. Oh, so not as high-res as most other smartphone cameras? I see. Do I have to have iTunes to manage it? Really? And it costs how much?"
- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -3/+1I agree with you 100%. Several times, I have seen a circle of Apple haters (I know plenty of them) bad-mouthing a friend's or coworker's iPhone. - PaganHeathen, on 05/02/2008, -2/+4I use ovi with my N95 and I think many Nokia users do.
Again a piece of crap bit of journalism from a fanboy. - jblack15, on 05/02/2008, -2/+4Seth Weintraub can go to hell, every single one of his articles is about being a butt-buddy with Steve Jobs.
- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1And yet, if Steve Jobs walked by, you'd bend over quick.
- ShinyDemon, on 05/02/2008, -5/+9"5 Megapixel phones from Nokia and Sony are no match for the growing popularity of the iPhone....and this is before 3G!"
So what you're saying is that the vast majority of the users prefer the inferior product?- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -5/+2The vast majority of users are willing to sacrifice a little quality for a more intuitive interface, and a generally more enjoyable experience. They like USING their product, they don't care about bragging to their nerd pals how big their MP count is. And in June, when the iPhone's camera gets upgraded, the iPhone will pwn you more than ever before.
- NinjaJoey, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1lolwut?
- waydee, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Unless they're completely redesigning it and fitting a full featured digital camera in there I doubt it. The new iPhone will have a similarly bad cheap webcam style useless camera like the first, hell if making it 3G capable is such a big deal (2003 calling) I doubt they've worked out how to make the camera useful.
- ShinyDemon, on 05/02/2008, -1/+3Honestly, I think this "more intuitive interface" stuff is crap. So all the buttons to launch the various programs are on the main screen? Why not have a main screen that shows you a lot of useful information, such as upcoming appointments from a calendar, tasks you need to complete, maybe the weather? Then, when you the buttons to launch the apps, you can get there in literally two clicks; is that the big problem. If you want to use the camera button on my phone (AT&T 8525), you hold it sideways like a camera and hit the camera button, which is where a shutter button should be on a normal camera; that's completely intuitive. I can give you more examples, I'm curious to know exactly how its interface is "more intuitive".
- SteveMax, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2By June, the bar will have been raised by the N96. Nokia had no reason to update their high-end device for almost two years (simply because nothing, including the iPhone, came close to it); now they're releasing the N95's evolution, and it looks like it will take quite some time before anything comes close.
About "intuitive interface", a N95 can activate its silent mode when you put it on a table with the screen down. I see few more intuitive ways to do this.
- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -5/+2The vast majority of users are willing to sacrifice a little quality for a more intuitive interface, and a generally more enjoyable experience. They like USING their product, they don't care about bragging to their nerd pals how big their MP count is. And in June, when the iPhone's camera gets upgraded, the iPhone will pwn you more than ever before.
- LetitDrop, on 05/02/2008, -0/+4I don't think anyone got it for the camera.
- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -1/+1And it's the least touted feature of the iPhone. Go back to the original iPhone keynote, and you'll see that Steve Jobs mentions it real quick, like over a matter of 20 seconds. It was obvious from the start that they put in a 2MP camera because it's a V1 product. In June, you can bet the camera will be upgraded.
- Weejay, on 05/02/2008, -8/+5So what, it's like as bulky as a brick.
- hadak, on 05/02/2008, -5/+12I want a damn N95!
- RyFo18, on 05/02/2008, -2/+3You can't even text pictures on it though. Why the ***** wouldn't you have basic technology that every other phone has.
- emyo, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2Like we have a choice about the camera
- ralx, on 05/02/2008, -1/+9Flickr disclaimer:
About these graphs
These graphs show the number of Flickr members who have uploaded at least one photo or video with a particular camera on a given day over the last year.
The graphs are "normalized", which is a fancy way of saying that they automatically correct for the fact that more people join Flickr each day: the graph moving up or down indicates a change in the camera's popularity relative to all other cameras used by Flickr members.
The graphs are only accurate to the extent that we can automatically detect the camera used to take the photo or shoot the video (about 2/3rds of the time). That is not usually possible with cameraphones, therefore they are under-represented. - replaysMike, on 05/02/2008, -5/+7There should be a 'buried for sucking at life' button.
- iofthestorm, on 05/02/2008, -1/+5There should also be a "buried for sucking Steve Jobs' dick" button.
- Firehed, on 05/02/2008, -1/+2As an iPhone owner, I completely agree. It's a nice phone, now get over it. There are other nice phones too. No need to spew propaganda on the Great Lord Steve's behalf *rolleyes*.
- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -2/+2Why is it that the only ones that talk about sucking Steve Jobs' dick are the Apple haters? Perhaps because they really want to suck his dick? They hate him, yet they lust for his dick.
- iofthestorm, on 05/02/2008, -1/+5There should also be a "buried for sucking Steve Jobs' dick" button.
- Twinnie, on 05/02/2008, -5/+4I'm in the UK and I've still yet to see an iPhone out in the wild, even after they allegedly sold out stock everywhere. I might actually smirk if I saw someone trying to take a photo with one.
*incoming burypocalypse*- meghalc, on 05/02/2008, -2/+1dugg
- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2You would smirk, then immediately ask, "Hey, can I check that out?"
- Twinnie, on 05/02/2008, -0/+0No I wouldn't, I fiddled with one in the shop and the novelty's worn off. I'll keep my Nokia with Bluetooth, unlocked OS, removable battery, etc. They don't try to tell me how to use my phone.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1I got one for Mrs Grim... from the Carphone Warehouse for £159 (or whatever it was). I asked if he minded me plugging it into my laptop in the store, and use ZiPhone to unlock it in front of them. They weren't best pleased.
- sputty01, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Carphone Warehouse are tossers, enjoy the HORRIBLE customer support.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Er, no, I won't. You remember what I said about unlocking the phone up there?

- waydee, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1A few idiots bought them but on the whole it's been a pretty big flop for Apple over here. Apple needs to learn that the world isn't the US.
- D14BL0, on 05/02/2008, -3/+1Here's a proper title for the iPhone that isn't restricted to Flickr:
iPhone is now the most smudgiest camera phone- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2Until you wipe it with a cloth, which takes one second.
- eltrev, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Obviously you don't have one
- monseur, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2graph's broke
- louiebaur, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3That is allot of pictures going up via iphone
- Lou3000, on 05/02/2008, -3/+5I love iPhone haters.
- eltrev, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1Just Apple haters in general here on Digg. They think we like Apple products only because they are cool and shiny, and they couldn't be more wrong ...
- ibic, on 05/02/2008, -1/+6I quite like my iphone, but its camera is quite lousy compared to others.
- lgc90, on 05/02/2008, -1/+3I find that it takes very good pictures.
- mannymix03, on 05/02/2008, -3/+4hey it may have flaws, but it does take damn good pictures (and videos if you jailbreak it and install showtime)
- Firehed, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2Um, what? If I had one thing that I would want improved on my iPhone, it's the camera. Maybe with better software it could be improved a bit, but the crappy sensor and lens can't be fixed in software.
That said, I've used the camera maybe five times in, what, ten months now? If you're outdoors on a sunny day it can take half-decent shots since there's enough light, but any other situation yields out of focus and motion-blurred junk. That along with the photo app are fairly useless (the photo app would be better if iTunes would let me sync stuff from Lightroom, but that's wishful thinking. - waydee, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1It takes terrible pictures, like a webcam in a dark room. Wheres the flash? focus? proper manual controls? it's a terrible camera and absolutely useless unless indoors under high light.
Look at a modern cybershot Sony Ericsson phone or even a Nokia if you want to see a proper camera on a phone.

- meghalc, on 05/02/2008, -3/+6How the ***** anything Apple or Iphone ends up on the front page? Seriously! I think Rose might be doing some bumping...
- funchords, on 05/02/2008, -5/+3Huh??
Nobody I know has one.- lharrod, on 05/02/2008, -1/+2You should get out sometime and make some friends.
- marcushe, on 05/02/2008, -7/+5It's the most popular camera phone because it has the best & most intuitive software for actually viewing the pictures.
- ibis, on 05/02/2008, -1/+4I guess the obvious response to this is that the iphone compares in numbers to a single nokia model, yet nokia makes dozens of different phones. How do total apple phone numbers compare to total nokia phone numbers, or even just nokia smartphone numbers?
- handheldchimp, on 05/02/2008, -1/+3Isn't going from a 5mp camera to the iPhones camera like taking a step back in time?
- jaisin, on 05/02/2008, -3/+2Not really. I had a Nokia N80 which was 3mp, but there was no reason to take pictures since it wasn't fun to display them. I've taken more pictures with my iPhone than any other phone I'ved owned.
- igob8a, on 05/02/2008, -3/+2Samsung's 10 megapixel cameraphone will whoop iphone's ass.

And it's over 2 years old too. - ashrocky, on 05/02/2008, -3/+7i will go for Nokia N95 8gig all the way there's no comparison PERIOD....

I hate iPhone, - djdingo, on 05/02/2008, -2/+1Maybe it's all because of the photo sizes! A 2MP picture will upload a lot quicker than a file that's over twice it's size, the 5MP picture.
If you had a race with someone to see who could upload 100 pictures first, you taking 2MP pictures and the other taking 5MP pictures, you'd win before they got halfway done. But of course it all depends on the network they are using and the upload bandwidth.
just saying. - flexnutz, on 05/02/2008, -1/+1The N95 weighs more than a can of Coke. The iPhone camera sucks ass compared to the "can of Coke". N95 wins...
- BambinosKrib, on 05/02/2008, -2/+4iPhone? lol! The other mobiles phones available in the States must REALLY be crappy if the iphone is the most popular. In the UK the N82 ($500) is free on a 12 month contract WITH cash back. Have fun sliding your finger across your shiny screen, whilst I emulate Sonic 1/2/3/&Knuckles and CD ON MY N82
- deiphobus, on 05/02/2008, -2/+7It's the most popular because it's the only model available. Sony Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung have tons of cameraphones, hence the numbers are probably not as high. But when start counting by brand (meaning all SE cameraphones, all Nokia camerphones, all Samsung cameraphones), then the iPhone is like a little insect trying to wiggle its way into the cameraphone world.
- Skeuomorph, on 05/02/2008, -2/+1This argument sounds a little like Hillary Clinton's delegate math. The graph doesn't claim to illustrate the most popular brands, it illustrates the particular models with the most users uploading pics.

- aptmunich, on 05/02/2008, -2/+4My iPhone takes worse 2MP pictures than my old Sony Ericsson K750i.
But the ability to snap a pic and blog, twitter or add it to Flickr on the go is much easier - so for me image quality is not necessarily the most important aspect of the phone. -
