- sitric, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Just remember that the Touch-Dev team helped a LOT with early information...
- lolhax, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Heh, Niacin is one of the guys responsible for the PSP tiff exploit which resulted in the 2.0 downgrader. Good to see that toc2rta irc is back online.
- RadishMan, on 10/16/2007, -0/+14No doubt it'll be another week before there is an easy (iBrickr easy) way to apply this. The good news is that every time the firmware is reopened, although Apple will likely patch the hole, they'll have to offer functionality improvements in order to entice users to upgrade. I doubt they can add features as fast as exploits can be found.
- ccanni1028, on 10/16/2007, -0/+13How about http://digg.com/apple ???
Oh wait, he already did. If you don't want to read stories about Apple... stop reading the Apple section! - relinquish, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13He left our team in favor of milking donations. Note the 4+ donation buttons on the blog. The touchdev team never pesters for donations, and we do it for fun. He was deceptive and used us to gain plenty of information that saved him a large amount of time and hassle.
Just letting you hear our side of the story... - aloser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Was just going to post that. Niacin is a great hacker and a great help (he helped me get started in the PSP-programming scene).
- EztliNahua, on 10/16/2007, -1/+11Earlier this night...
dre> we only bricked like 10 phones so far
dre> no biggies
Niacin> he is joking
Niacin> we didn't brick any
dre> oh man, im gonna lose voice now
Niacin> well we did delete kal's media dir :P
Niacin> he was pissed
dre> :( twice.
Niacin> haha ya second time was a joke
Niacin> i mean seriously.. who likes indian music anyway - EztliNahua, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Update: 1AM: Niacin announces: "I would just like to 100% confirm we cracked the itouch" for a tester whose handle is podometer. He further confirms that his hack is based on Dinopio's hack, adding some chained calls to get around OS issues.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Yes and then another hack the week after. If you can just wait a few weeks for the latest firmware updates from Apple, you too can have third party apps on your iPhone (or apparently Touch) and also keep up to date with Apple features - having your cake and eating it too.
I hadn't hacked my phone before but I plan to do so as soon as the final 1.1.1 jailbreak is out. Then after that I'll weigh with each firmware update, if I like the features Apple is adding more than the features I have added. That's what hacking is all about. It's making a choice to take a path the manufacturer is not, for whatever reason. - the_snitch, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Buried, Reported as Spam. Go ***** Yourself.
- amneosis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8*sniff* God bless those gentleman hackers.
- omghax, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Good Luck, and Godspeed!!
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+5Judging by their history, they will probably never add any useful features to the iPod touch. Maybe ability to add/modify calendar events, but what's a calendar good for if you already have the choice of 5 different home-brew calendar apps. I'd probably never upgrade at all if I had an iPod touch.
- ikickass, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5sup?
- trebe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5woot! Now if only there was vpn on the touch, I'd get one immidiately
- blackbrutha, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Kickass.
- Wang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Jailbreak for 1.1.1 will be awesome, don't get me wrong....but beta test the jailbreak? no way! right now that's like saying "who wants their iphone bricked!" :) If you are smart, you will wait :)
- MonkeyHugger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Sweet Jesus.
- Four20, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3[02:49] we have 100% jailbroken the itouch 1.1.1 and iphone 1.1.1
The time stamp is AM EST - sholt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Cool, but I'd like to see this as a stepping stone for a more reliable way to jailbreak 1.1.1.
The TIFF exploit will almost certainly be closed by 1.1.2 (as I would expect for any code injection vulnerability), so pardon me for not applauding just yet. - Wang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1There is always a first time for everything, and we all know this is a risky process :) It's best to wait until this is tried and tested to the max.
- Hamletlere, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And what will they offer in 1.1.2 to entice the users to upgrade? Remember that upgrading is optional.
- lharrod, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1In a similar spirit, I bought a Cuisinart blender and plan to use its motor in an RC car. If it doesn't work out, I will complain to Cuisinart, and tell everyone that their blender is crap. That's what hacking is all about.
- sholt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1True enough, but security updates on a internet enabled device rate pretty highly on my scale.
Don't tell me you're seriously advocating that people run their phone with a vulnerability that can be exploited by an image file attached in an e-mail (and yes, TIFFs are displayed inline in MobileMail), or linked to in a webpage, if a patch closing that vulnerability is available.
If you're gong to take the stand that the device is basically a handheld computer, then treat it like one and patch, patch, patch, patch patch. - ec92009, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You're right Radishman. For most 1.0.2 users, it's easy to wait for a 1.1.1 version of AppTapp to come out, because 1.0.2+AppTapp is sooooo much better than barebones 1.1.1. And that will be the equation to look at for every new firmware Apple comes up with.
To a degree, you wonder if it would not be better to make 1.0.2 or 1.1.1 the "Official 3rd party apps version", and just figure out how to downgrade iPhones that come with a newer version out of the box. - tucsonwc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'd say wait to do all this jailbreaking until leopard ships and the next iPhone update comes out which enables the interactions with it.
Unless u just have a PC, then go for it now. :) - ec92009, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So, when can we expect AppTapp support for 1.1.1?
- ec92009, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Heck, I'd stick to 1.0.2 if there was no really cool stuff to make me want to update to 1.1.2
- b0rna, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3high def bollywood is all we need.
- Wisgary, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2For some weird reason I thought the jailbreak mod from the quake games was being ported to ipod touch, wtf is wrong with me
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I keep hearing this. Does it even matter? The reason people wanted to upgrade to 1.1.1 is because it had features/fixes to offer. They can't really make a worthwhile update at the drop of a hat. The most they might be able to do is make the music store stop working.
- championchap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Haha, oh mahn. Classic.
- lharrod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It seems to me that hackers are talented enough to rework a gadget, but not talented enough to create their own. Hip hop artists are the same; creative enough to remix a classic song and release it as theirs, but not creative enough to play their own instruments and write their own music.
- NaziHatinChimp, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1I'll go ahead and let all you guys steal the glory for this one.
- sleeknerve, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2iphuc, lol
- Gabberwok, on 10/10/2007, -11/+4So we can expect another update from Apple next week then?
- kkiran, on 10/11/2007, -15/+2Hmmm, jailbreak is gr8!!! Hope baseband patc is on its way soon, jus can't use the iPhone 1.1.1 without the Phone !
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/11/2007, -16/+0You know, K-Dogg should really just make an http://apple.digg.com sites for all things Apple. It doesn't seem like it will ever end.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -16/+0iPhone's useless, who wants to hack it?
- bgmccollum, on 10/11/2007, -21/+4i can haz buffer overflowz?
- tubeblender, on 10/11/2007, -37/+1"First Post"
