- EatingPie, on 02/25/2008, -5/+61Immediately after playing Wii Tennis, Jon Stewart said "Should I be winded?"
The best moment in the Academy Awards, courtesy of Jon Stewart...
The Best Song went ton the couple from "Once" -- total underdogs, not rich glamorous Hollywood stars, and made their movie in just 3 weeks. They were obviously blown away by the dream-come-true moment. But the academy (by accident or on purpose?) turned off the microphone before the second recipient, the girl, could give her thanks. After the commercial break, Stewart said "She didn't get a chance to say thank you, so we'd like to bring her back out." Such a wonderful moment in this girl's life, and Stewart saved it for her. Awesome!
-Pie - Shreyasva, on 02/25/2008, -3/+53it would be awesome if they showed the nominations in cover flow
- techstar25, on 02/25/2008, -2/+39Actually if you watch it, the appearance of the iPhone was a clever jab at how remarkably stupid it is to watch a movie on such a tiny device.
Obviously Hollywood in general would rather you take in your movies in a theater or on DVD, as opposed to downloading it. - timusca, on 02/25/2008, -4/+37I doubt Apple or Nintendo paid for either of those...
- Fredo521, on 02/25/2008, -2/+31Advertising at its finest.
- logicalnoise, on 02/25/2008, -0/+27stewarts best line was actually, "that guy was so arrogant"
- BlueSkyfish, on 02/25/2008, -2/+16Sorry Oscars, you're still not trendy .
- mywhitenoise, on 02/25/2008, -0/+12Who the ***** wouldn't approve getting their product some exposure?
- encrypter, on 02/25/2008, -3/+14Signed your name again, EatingPie?
- jsin1276, on 02/25/2008, -2/+12The advertisers are trying their best to get their products out there as with DVR taking over who watches commercials now?
- antdude, on 02/25/2008, -0/+10I found the Wii one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3oOgYNB8i8 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5YuXOXCnMo ...
Couldn't find the iPhone one. Can someone please kindly post it for us? - NathanielJ, on 02/25/2008, -1/+10...and? Why wouldn't they approve the use of their products in the show?
- joeystyles66, on 02/25/2008, -0/+9Whoa, Apple and Nintendo products at the Oscars? All that was missing for the perfect Digg trifecta was Ron Paul
- thatsmyaibo, on 02/25/2008, -0/+7I can't find out without digging your stupid article? I'll make you a deal...I'll bury it and you for the spam.
- EatingPie, on 02/25/2008, -0/+6Right, he gave a very short statement, and very *humble*. THAT is why Stewart called him "arrogant." Everyone laughed because they saw that the guy was so blown away and so gracious for the award.
-Pie - hydroplane, on 02/25/2008, -0/+6ha-ha refrences
- logicalnoise, on 02/25/2008, -1/+7NO WAI!
- oneshare325, on 02/25/2008, -0/+6Here is the iPhone one...
http://gizmodo.com/360276/jon-stewart-bored-with-o ... - FuriousGopher, on 02/25/2008, -0/+6Best Song is a pretty big category. They should not have cut her time off. It wasn't her partner's fault at all. Robert Boyle took at least 5 minutes giving his thanks
- jamminman, on 02/25/2008, -1/+6That didn't work on digg either.
- SemiSarcastic, on 02/25/2008, -0/+5Even dildos?
- richiestang78, on 02/25/2008, -3/+8Anyone have the video from this?
- Whatth, on 02/25/2008, -1/+5I get references!
- jamminman, on 02/25/2008, -0/+4apparently.
- NathanielJ, on 02/25/2008, -1/+5As soon as I saw the Wii thing last night, I knew it would be on the front page today.
Except I had thought that the blogspam about it would at least say something about it - some sort of editorial commentary or at least the video of it happening. But no, the "article" that makes it to the front page is "yeah, Wii got on the Oscars last night and we have a pic".
How insightful. - directive0, on 02/25/2008, -0/+3Yeah that was a CLASS ACT, I was super impressed they did that.
- inactive, on 02/25/2008, -1/+4Wait John Stewart following what ever cult trend there is regardless of facts?
Say it ain't so ! - Ganja420, on 02/25/2008, -6/+8Product Placement... we all have TIVOs, i haven't watched a commercial in 3 years.
- mrBitch, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2Actually - from a design perspective, Wii is an example of what Apple would have built if they were to build a game console. Many industry pundits have commented on the perfect synergy between usability and design aesthetics, and can easily see why it would make perfect sense for Apple to buy Nintendo ( if Apple were ever interested in going in that direction).
- inactive, on 02/26/2008, -1/+3The Oscars were on?
- Elranzer, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1It is wide...
- inactive, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1What else is awesome is that guy dropped out of school at 13 to follow his music dream and it's totally paid off for him. I'm very happy for him.
- smspence, on 02/25/2008, -1/+2Seriously, why?
- freshyill, on 02/25/2008, -2/+3This Wii doodad looks like fun. Where can I get one for myself? Oh, still nowhere? Bummer. :-(
- henrikakselsen, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1Agreed, maybe the most memorable moment this year when Stewart called her out. And she gave one of the best speeches too.
- jamminman, on 02/25/2008, -1/+2Does that mean I don't exist?
- jjustice, on 02/25/2008, -1/+2"e" keep on telling?
- econojon, on 02/27/2008, -0/+1All the youtube links are down. totally ghey!
- amawg9, on 02/25/2008, -3/+3Then you havn't had a girlfriend in 5 years
- NathanielJ, on 02/25/2008, -3/+3Er... that's so not why he called him arrogant. Do you know what arrogant means?
- Goombellaofgoom, on 02/26/2008, -1/+1I see what you did there.
- oneshare325, on 02/25/2008, -1/+1I hate yo for doing that, but god damn was that funny as *****!!
- joshua5, on 02/25/2008, -2/+2maybe not the entire history of apple
- slinky317, on 02/26/2008, -1/+1Yeah, because Apple and Nintendo didn't pay a dime to get their ***** displayed.
This isn't a remark on how popular these things are. These are a remark on how much Apple and Nintendo paid to get their image on screen. - Sangermaine, on 02/26/2008, -0/+0Regardless of the facts? What does that even mean? What are "the facts" behind the Wii and the iPhone?
- Drobot, on 02/26/2008, -0/+0I think it was actually a jab at David Lynch. He had some rant about movies on a $%#@ing cellphone, or something like that.
- chkdg8, on 02/26/2008, -1/+1Why does everybody seemed surprised that the iPhone made an "oh so obvious" promo appearance? Did anyone happen to watch the Oscars....ON ABC?! Which is owned by Disney? Hmm, I wonder who just happens to be the single biggest share holder of Disney stock? I suppose no one heard Brad Bird's acceptance speech when he thanked Steve Jobs either.
- Mrdudeperson, on 02/26/2008, -0/+0And to think I thought Jon Stewart really did like to play the Wii. I was so stupid back then. Filthy advertising.
- Scarfy, on 02/26/2008, -1/+1I feel stupid having watched that.
- rebrad, on 02/25/2008, -2/+1Oscar headline "Least-watched in history..." http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_displa ...
I wonder if John will be spamming products next year. -
