- maxthreepwood, on 04/12/2008, -4/+13At last! Having the iPhone with me, able to listen to stuff without cables while I'm running and then quickly check my progress on the screen, in realtime.
- Kumaku, on 04/12/2008, -4/+4That's actually not a bad thing. I love the Nike+ stuff.
- septicmadman, on 04/12/2008, -1/+8In my neighborhood, I am afraid to run with a pair of shoes that looks like they cost more than $20.
- unomeasjon, on 04/12/2008, -12/+0Lol, then why do people get offended when I say "white power!" It's not like the other color is nice or actually a good addition to society.. Prove me wrong.
- diversionmary, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3There are more than two colors, why polarize the issue?
- irgeorge, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1Wait. What. Where did that come from!? You're an idiot.
- pegothejerk, on 04/12/2008, -0/+2you can use cheap running shoes and cut a spot into the foam just big enough for the Nike+ transmitter. Just look at the nike+shoes and put it in the same spot. Only takes an exact-o knife and a couple minutes.
- johnpaul191, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3i have one of those little keyholders that attaches to the laces, and drop the Nike+ sensor there.
- unomeasjon, on 04/12/2008, -12/+0Lol, then why do people get offended when I say "white power!" It's not like the other color is nice or actually a good addition to society.. Prove me wrong.
- johnpaul191, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1My issue with the Nike+ is that it's incredibly inaccurate. I have run the same loop with it many times and my distance will change by well over half a mile. maybe even 3/4 of a mile? It's an 8.5 mile loop, so that much error may not be as bad as it sounds, but still. It will sometimes be low and sometimes high, so i don't think it's just a calibration issue. My hope was that it would be accurate enough that i could go off of measured loops and still have an idea of my distance.
I am also baffled about the lack of support for a heart rate monitor. That's a lot more important to me than even the iPod functionality. it would be nice not to wear 6 devices when running 17 miles..... i think that's why i stop using everything but a HRM in the summer.- Lewiji, on 04/13/2008, -0/+1It'd be cool if they could integrate the GPS functionality with the nike+ to improve this.

- mklopez, on 04/12/2008, -8/+2if you meant "no haptic feedback", I agree that would be nice... but then, I rather have this come out sooner than later (and at a reasonable price!)
- intellimouse, on 04/12/2008, -8/+5No, I meant "tactile buttons". (tactile: Pertaining to the sense of touch.)
- DaffyDuck, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1There is a haptic feedback program for the iPhone. I tried it but didn't see a need for it, personally.

- RyeBrye, on 04/12/2008, -1/+17I kind of wish that the iPhone dev team hadn't pointed out how bad the security on the boot loader was for the 1st gen iPhones - because those holes will most definitely be patched for the 3G phones.
I'm definitely interested in the 3G iPhone - but NOT on ATT- simplenation, on 04/12/2008, -1/+9good luck getting 3G service in America with another GSM provider

- robdiggity, on 04/12/2008, -1/+1Don't think AT&T offers EVDO or DO/Rev-A though. These are Verizon and Sprint offerings.

- SSUK, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3I wouldn't worry. Thanks to that "PWNAGE" application, all firmware, including 2.0 can be jailbroken and unlocked... Even more of a bitch-slap is that iTunes VERIFIES the firmware, so it can't tell the difference between clean and modified firmware. I would wager that the 3G iPhone will be susceptible to the same vulnerabilities that the current iPhone is open to.

- redxninja, on 04/12/2008, -7/+2NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
- sark666, on 04/12/2008, -1/+8I've never tried one, but read a bit about the nike+. The nike+ device is an accelerometer, but I read it's somewhat limited in it's readings, in that over long distances it's fine, you'll get a fairly accurate average pace, but if you're one to do sprints, it doesn't reflect your speed change fast enough.
Doesn't the iphone have it's own accelerometer for the tilting? Could it somehow work in tandem with the nike device and maybe be more accurate? Obviously, probably not, it's more than likely just receiving info like a nano would. Just wondered how accurate the accelerometer onboard the iphone would be. Or couldn't it be used on it's own and not even need the nike device?- johnpaul191, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1that's why the diehard distance runners use GPS watches if they really want to know what they do, and want the ability to make up routes on the fly. they are still pretty pricey, but they really get cheaper every year. offhand i think they start in the $300 range maybe? maybe still more?
i said above that i find my Nike+ to vary as much as 3/4 of a mile over an 8.5 mile run. it's a set loop i often run, so that's a control factor. i generally fairly steady paces, and day to day it will change the measured distance a lot. - mntbikeracer1, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1Mine pretty accurate within a 1/4 mile for a 6+ mile run. I have no clue why you would do sprints with it? Get a stopwatch that would be easier.
- Macskeeball, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1It's not likely that the iPhone or iPod would be on your foot, where the movement is happening.
- johnpaul191, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1I've wondered about the sprinting thing, and i think they compensate for that to some degree. When you calibrate it, there is a calibration for running and walking. I am guessing it knows if you are running or walking based on time between footsteps. Does a sprint have a significantly different stride distance than regular running, or jogging? It's all about matching one step to *your* stride distance.
I'm not being a smarty-pants. I'm not super into running from a standpoint of training to be great. I started running as cross training, and I run pretty slowly, but i can do distances (i've done marathons).
If you have a Nano (or if they make it work with the iPhone/Touch), then i suggest giving it a try (or borrow a nano?). The Apple store i bought mine from told me they do NOT charge the open box penalty if you are returning a Nike+, so if it doesn't work for you, you are not even out the $29. I do like the Nike+ website and the ability to work with google maps to draw out some of my running routes and figure out the distance, or an easy way to find a route of a certain distance. I live right near a University, so there are TONS of mapped out routes around me if i just pick a distance range.
I'm pretty sure the accuracy is going to be so-so until there is some sort of GPS integration. I guess that's *possible* with the iPhone some day?

- intellimouse, on 04/12/2008, -16/+2OMG bluetooth support? They're so copying Microsoft who already has bluetooth support in every single Microsoft product even the XBOX 360 which Apple can't even compete with because they're so high above everybody who plays games and stuff. First they copy the Windows 95 taskbar and now this? LAME.
- Speed, on 04/12/2008, -3/+12As a Windows user, please let me be the first to say: STFU.
Also, the 360 doesn't have bluetooth.- allyant, on 04/12/2008, -9/+2Yes it does, how do you think wireless controllers and headsets work?
- HolyChimp, on 04/12/2008, -0/+12A Proprietry wireless system that lets them be the sole creators of wireless 360 controllers. PS3 uses bluetooth though.
- solidus636, on 04/12/2008, -0/+9It doesn't use bluetooth. It uses 2.4 GHZ wireless. The PS3 uses bluetooth, as stated above...
- allyant, on 04/12/2008, -9/+2Yes it does, how do you think wireless controllers and headsets work?
- SSUK, on 04/12/2008, -1/+4Can't tell if this guy's joking... But anyway; The 360 uses a 2.4GHz radio signal for the Xbox 360 controllers, which is kinda funny, 'cause it apparently blocks WiFi (which is also a 2.4GHz radio signal) signals because it's overpowering.

Also, thanks for screwing the people over that purchased the phone on the lauch date.. I bet they love having a plastic screen over a non scratchable glass screen.- HolyChimp, on 04/12/2008, -0/+4No, you're thinking of the iPod Touch, that wouldn't get any of these features anyway. - tomwhughes, on 04/12/2008, -0/+7But I think we can all agree that if Jesus was still alive today, it would be his phone of choice. Can't really see him fireing off email to his fans from a simple blackberry or trio!
- 37prime, on 04/12/2008, -4/+3Lame Gizmodo blogspam.
Nothing new. - TYEZ, on 04/12/2008, -0/+3GPS = me buying one actually i am waiting for the new release to get one anyways. 32 gig pleaseplease
- screwzluse, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't hold your breath for 32GB. I love the GPS and bluetooth headset rumors but I think I recall hearing they were not upgrading the size to 32GB this time around (iPod Touch will stick to 32GB) or something like that. Really, if it came with GPS and 32GB, it would be the easiest decision in the world for me to make. I really hope that what I heard was wrong.
- SaciPerere, on 04/12/2008, -5/+2Why do you Americans call the iPhone the "Jesus Phone" - I'm serious. What does that mean? Anyone care to explain it to us non-religious gits? :)
- blackjack75, on 04/12/2008, -1/+1It's supposed to express the unlimited admiration people have for the device. I am not american and my admiration for Jesus is limited to the ideas that he brought that buddhists and others hadn't thought about before. Which is approximately nothing. And yet I still understand the expression.
- kbro, on 04/12/2008, -0/+1Imagine a religious scene where a group of people are on their knees, with their hands clasped together in front of them -- worshipping all that is Jesus Christ -- who is the answer to their prayers. Now replace Jesus in the scene with an iPhone.
- JEWestbrookJR, on 04/12/2008, -1/+1Sooooooo, Gizmodo knocks on Kevin Rose for "making iphone predictions" and then two weeks later, they do the same thing?

- FatShady, on 04/12/2008, -1/+2No, it does (or rather, did, I think), but you had to perform some ridiculous number of steps to get it to work, and when it did, it wasn't stereo.
Don't get me wrong - I love my iPhone, but the things it doesn't have make it pretty pathetic in a lot of areas. The moment that Windows Mobile becomes a viable music player, I'm switching back.
