- mellenger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+58this has been fixed and there is now a v1.5 of the simfree software
http://www.iphonesimfree.com/cgi-bin/iphonesimfree/engine.pl?page=home - techsmack, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Buried, inaccurate as a fix has been issued.
- pardonator, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6For those that don't want to read it all. Turn off the Sim pin and it should work.
- mcnearcj, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I'm tired of hearing these "I can do what the iphone does on my *insert old model phone*. If you don't like the phone don't buy it. The iPhone UI is amazing are you can't really compare it to a razr. Browsing the web is easy and fast even on edge... The razr is horrible for web browsing. I know you're probably going to say something like I don't need to browse the web on my phone I have my computer... well great then use your computer but when I'm waiting for my table at a restaurant or on the subway I can catch up on the news or check sports scores quick and pass the time. The phone isn't for everyone... there isn't one product that suits everyone. The iPhone suits my needs and is worth $400 to me.
- TomFrost, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why digg has the Block feature. Say hi to the other 12 year olds there.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You don't need to pay the early termination fee either. Just go to the store and buy the phone for $399+tax. Add the $50 for the unlock and you're fine. How much it costs you for service is up to you - networks like Orange and Vodafone in the UK will give you a Pay as you Go SIM for nothing. Hmm....
- funkydude101, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4lol "allow unlocked phones". That's all I've been using for 7 or 8 years now.
- gonediggin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3can anyone confirm if this will work on rogers?
- xportz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Simple solution: don't use internet access features when you're not connected to WiFi. You can call and SMS to your hearts' content on Rogers.
- Bhatch514, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Canada has no unlimited data packages, so most of the features would cost you quite a bit of coin per month.
- PabloMac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Does anyone have info on how an unlocked iPhone works with T-Mobile's data access? Is an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile only compatible with voice calls? Thanks!
- v0yeur, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7pussy always smells sweeter than ass, and you sir, are an ass.
- PiMPSP, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Agreed, inaccurate, if anything this should have made frontpage LAST night before the fix was issued
- misteral, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I read an article on the weekend (can't find it) where Rogers said something like "We typically don't allow unlocked phones on our network but we're making an exception for the IPhone".
Considering what Rogers charges for Data access though you may be just as well off getting it via AT&T and getting a global roaming data package which is only another 25 bucks a month - Braddock, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Your numbers are way off. Here is a better depiction of the costs to get a working iphone on another GSM provider:
$399 + tax for the phone (349 if you get it refurbished from Apple)
$100 for the unlock
(assuming you already have a GSM cell phone provider no additional charges are needed) - Flimnit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I would also love to know if this works on Rogers. Canada needs the Iphone as well.
- Chort, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Good luck with the $300 phone bill.
- nunofgs, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5CONFIRMED. Doesn't unlock my PowerBook.
- jonbon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You can already get iphones unlocked in Canada that work on Rogers/Fido. Check craiglist. I've seen working ones, and made calls. They're available through hardware and software unlocks.
Software upgrading is still sketchy though. - superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It should work as GSM data is a well set standard.
- yabos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why would you need one. Buy the iPhone from Apple or ATT and unlock it. Insert Rogers SIM card and you're set. Except for the huge rip off of 5 cents per KB on Rogers.
- Speed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Hey hey hey, I think it would be more like $500 a month...
- b0rna, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3or you already have an activated sim card. in which case, Phone + unlock. With the price tag dropped you WONT be paying 700 for the phone.
- vinko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Has anyone tried this with carriers in Hong Kong? PCCW, Orange, Smartone-Vodafone, 3, etc.
- exomni, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Ontop of that, data access is slow as ***** without Wi-Fi, so who would use it outside of WiFi anyways?
- slapded, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1or sprint
- scbysnx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2sign up with a friend in the states then use this great new tool called the "internet" to check the bill and pay it
- Speed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The Rogers repair shop by my house says it'll unlock their phones for you...
- hifiDesign, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Don't you mean, "Buried as inaccurate for attention-whoring-headline-duplicate-story-submitted-16-hours-late *****?"
- jonnyeh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1How is a Canadian supposed to get an ATT bill?
- v0yeur, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Fido used to have a $60 unlimited data plan, of course you would have to be grandfathered into it for it to still apply. it was part of the old hip-top package.
- hiro, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1No, the only people you'd find following him are sweaty nerds, he's never likely to get any pussy
- Wang, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Inaccurate
- skywaystudios, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0If you are in the UK then nope. You must have EDGE on your network to use data access. O2 will have this soon, so i'm looking to buy a contract on o2 when it comes out as I have an unlocked iPhone currently on t-mobile!
Hope this helps! - DaviDaviDaviD, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Anyone else really hate it when people show MSN conversations? TLDR ;)
Anyway, good to see that someone in the UK has unlocked it! - ataoz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0True. Well I was all ready to get the 16GB iPod Touch but now with the leaked specs of the 16GB 3G iPhone on the German T-Mobile ad, I think I'm going to wait for the next rev of the iPhone and ditch the iPod Touch altogether. I'm also with Rogers but maybe with the little added wait and the launch in Europe, Rogers and Apple will come to an agreement.
- PabloMac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1He would bless humanity just like when He physically walked the Earth.
- funkytaco, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1What would Jesus do in IM?
- captain351, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Whilst the iphone lock software seems to be available please be aware you have to provide your IMEI to an unknown source. This is information you should NEVER give up. My advice is wait for a method you can control. There are also plenty of good unlock methods out there which are not as expensive e.g a silver card costs about $9, In addition, it would appear the sofwtare is problematic from this discussion thread. Also I am just opposed to anyone who charges a fee for software they created using open source tools e.g you have to activate your phone first and no doubt the software unlock was obtained using the information which people freely provided via the various iphone development groups. Anyway it won't be long before a free software method emerges so save your money and keep your private information safe.
- stefanopolo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Confirmed DOES NOT WORK. I am a T-Mobile Customer. I have a mac. I deactivated the phone, jailbreak the phone and uploaded the SIMFREE.APP just like they told me how to do it. I unlocked the phone by running the app successfully but guess what, it does not work. IT still says that my sim card is invalid and i need to activate my phone through Itunes. The simfree app keeps telling me its unlocked but yet nothing. I have restored my phone and performed this process three times but guess what, Nothing. IT DOES NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE
- psilanthropist, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1hi
- vango, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2nice
- TigerWalk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0CONFIRMED: It does not unlock my ZUNE. what am I doing wrong.....heh heh heh
- harrypl0tter, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0And you are the ***** that makes the ass smell
- harrypl0tter, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2I am talking about the dumbasses that bought it when it first came out. I thought a ***** like you would reply with the new price. You would think if I put 600 I would be talking about the people that bought it for that much....but no....got a stupid ass like you
- CelineFan, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0I'll wait for the price to drop even more..
- rebotfc, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4and you need to get a job...
- tavisjohn, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1NEEDS iPhone? NEEDS? You will die without it?
OR are you just a looser if you do not have an iPhone?
I can do most of what the iPhone boasts about, with my RAZOR! And I could do most of what the iPhone brags about with my old Treo650!!! - akf2000, on 10/10/2007, -10/+1The customer in that article must be the only person in the UK with a working iPhone, just follow the scent of pussy to find him, sweet, sweet pussy.
- harrypl0tter, on 10/10/2007, -21/+8600 + tax for the phone.
100 for the unlock
200 for the early termination fee
50 for new service on different providers
That is over 1k in money just for a stupid ass phone? Seriously....some people need to get lives
