- gametavern, on 11/06/2008, -0/+91why is iphone in the title here?
- megaton, on 11/06/2008, -1/+37Interesting. I've got flash drives and cards that can write at > 15MB/sec, so either the iPhone has a ***** flash drive in it, or THIS ARTICLE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ***** IPHONE.
- mytCbumps, on 11/06/2008, -1/+33Good luck with that. Steve Jobs knows best. And he knows we don't need it because we want it.
- ZeNiTH456, on 11/06/2008, -1/+29So, why is iPhone in the title again? Because they mentioned the iPhone in the first paragraph it's suddenly an iPhone article?
- MarkusX, on 11/06/2008, -4/+26Let me know, when Apple has built it into the iPhone. - maybe 2012.
- Zippo, on 11/06/2008, -2/+23Flash memory is definitely the future. Keep it coming, science.

- se7en11, on 11/06/2008, -1/+10or both?
- jsmithers, on 11/06/2008, -2/+9Buried. ***** all to do with the iPhone...could just as easily have said any other phone or digital device manufacturer.
LAAAAAME. - FaberfoX, on 11/06/2008, -0/+6I dugg you and buried the submitter, am I doing it right?
- SkippyDoorknob, on 11/06/2008, -2/+7Flash!! Ahhh-ahhhhh!!
- aqzman, on 11/06/2008, -1/+6Protip: Put iPhone in the title of any story and it'll make the front page. Even if the story has nothing to do with the iPhone.
- kelchm, on 11/06/2008, -0/+4Did this really need to include an iphone reference?
- inactive, on 11/06/2008, -0/+4iPhone is the new BREAKING!!!
- tehdoom, on 11/06/2008, -3/+7Don't get your panties in a bunch. The "FFS" in ExtremeFSS stands for Flash File System, not "For *****'s Sake." Did you honestly think that's what it stood for? This is SanDisk we're talking about here, not id Software.
- DeceasedVirus, on 11/06/2008, -1/+42012. . . don't you know that's the end of the world
- Sabin, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2I can dump 4 gigs of data on to a CF card in about 10-15 minutes depending on the number of files. The problem isn't with flash memory or USB, the problem is with how the memory is being addressed internally by the iPhone or with how iTunes suncs the iPhone.
- brettotte1, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2So they bought FastCopy?
- tnoy, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2Sandisk makes flash memory.
If you're making flash memory, you sell it to whomever you can, and make the profit on your own player as little as possible (the player portion without the memory.)
This way you make a nice profit on your own hardware as well as off the competition that uses your memory. If samsung memory is in 90% of the flash-based players on the market, they'll make money on 90% of the flash-based players even if you only have 30% of the flash-based mp3 player market. - reaper527, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1i disagree with the articles assessment of the benchmarks. the vRPM is technically useless, as it obfuscates real data, but it is marketing gold. i absolutely see this taking off with the consumers.
on the other hand, the LDE benchmark is useful, but i see consumers saying "so i can only write 40tb to this then its dead? pass". magnetic harddrive might have a comparable number, but by not advertising it, they will have an advantage through "ignorance is bliss".
here's hoping for bigger, faster, successful flash in the future - franklymister, on 11/06/2008, -1/+2When the iPod stopped supporting Firewire and switched to USB 2.0, transfer speeds took a nosedive.
- tkamen, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1Title including Flash + iPhone = many clicks...
- Elranzer, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1It's just like how all Linux = Ubuntu
- Genma, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1well the poster is excused this time since ars made the same pointless reference, it's irrelevant in the article too considering the sheer amount of hardware using flash way before the iphone.
- Stalks, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1 Why not just add a card reader instead. Push the price onto the consumer and allow them to upgrade the flash with faster models as they come out.
Or ... lock the consumer into a set RAM size so as to rip the consumer off with larger sizes in the future. - Damienk, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1wow a 100 times! and until USB supports the same speed (thanks for ditching firewire) then this article is rather pointless! -.-
- bigbangbuddha, on 11/06/2008, -0/+1Agree, but USB 3.0 should be out by the same time this hits mp3 players. Rumor has it we should see the first spec by next year and early releases 2010.

- inactive, on 11/06/2008, -1/+1Bleh, misleading once again. Yes, the iphone is slow to write because of limitations of the built in flash. However, the flash HAS those limitations in the first place because it makes it very, very cheap---and in turn keeping the cost of the iphone itself under well under 600 bucks.
Anyone who comes in with a way to fabricate faster flash for the same price I'm quite certain will have a contract with Apple in about a second and a half. - rowlodge, on 11/06/2008, -1/+1love new alien technology.
- SawButter, on 11/07/2008, -0/+0I guess it's not iTunes related.
The reason why transfer speed's slow is because of that crappy USB controller Apple decided to put in the iPhone.
Transfering files using iPhone View (USB) is even slow too. - madpuppy, on 11/06/2008, -1/+1wait a min, I thought Sandisk was a direct competitor to Apple in the MP3 player space. does anybody remember the iSheep advertising blitz Sandisk did a few years back, and the fact they are the second largest MP3 player producer.
and before anyone says it: i-phone= i-touch = mp3 player - collution, on 11/06/2008, -3/+1Shave them then.
- davecachia, on 11/06/2008, -4/+1LOL owned by Tehdoom.
- chrysrobyn, on 11/06/2008, -12/+8"ExtremeFFS"... So "For *****'s Sake" is now okay for advertising? What a great world we live in. I was worried when "Extreme" went so mainstream, but if it was just a preface for this, I suppose I'm okay with it.
- MapShatter, on 11/06/2008, -14/+7My balls itch
- goflyers, on 11/06/2008, -14/+2You have to copy media to the iphone? I thought the songs you wanted were just there.
