- ucg1, on 04/03/2008, -0/+12Why? Steve's going to be laughing all the way to the bank when he keeps selling more phones.

- UNEXPLODEDduck, on 04/03/2008, -1/+11anyone know if this is working for the ipod touch yet?
- wowrob, on 04/03/2008, -0/+8The lack of good comments here is disappointing.
- JonLatane, on 04/03/2008, -0/+6Instead of running a jailbreak application or something of the sort, this application lets you pre-modify IPSW (iPhone/iPod SoftWare, aka firmware) files and jailbreak them immediately, so you can just restore a pre-jailbroken firmware onto your iPhone or iPod touch. This was previously not doable because of encryption in the firmware files, but it's apparently been broken.

- alex1015, on 04/03/2008, -0/+6Much more thorough than ZiPhone. A real WiFi fix rather than changing everyones MAC to the same thing, a reversible bootloader, and fixes for those stuck on 3.9. All in all damn impressive dev-team.
- godofpumpkins, on 04/03/2008, -2/+8he's right though, there's no reason it should go through engadget or gizmodo... why not link to the source? :P
- TheHogester, on 04/03/2008, -0/+5So how does this work exactly? Im at work, so cant watch the video.
- ziggotron, on 04/03/2008, -0/+5It works and It jailbreaks it; it just doesn't install installer.app.
- freshyill, on 04/03/2008, -2/+7Now if only Apple would hurry up and come out with the new iPhones, I'll be a happy camper. I bought a craptacular Sony-Ericsson slider phone the other day because my SLVR broke. I'll go out of my mind with this awful thing if I have to use it until June.
- LaRue05, on 04/03/2008, -1/+5I agree... fuk this 2 sentence blog span *****
- Slizzo, on 04/03/2008, -1/+4That's funny, I bought an iPhone to replace my SLVR, and couldn't be happier...

- TBoneFever, on 04/03/2008, -2/+5...buy a Mac regardless.

- frostbyt, on 04/03/2008, -1/+3Nope. Not yours!
- simplenation, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2what is the difference from the 2 version of the bootloaders? I unlocked and jailbroke my phone via ZiPhone. Can I still use iPwnage? is it recommended?
- marcoionox, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2Dev Team announcement: http://wikee.iphwn.org/news:pwnage_announcement
- ericd, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2Just for a little more info...
I got that after trying it out on a friend's Mac, that is the message on my iPhone after clicking iPwner with 1.1.4. It seemed to do everything OK on the Mac, I closed ITunes, started in recovery mode, and a lot of text loaded, then the screen cleared and showed that message, and booted up normally. Nothing broke, but nothing was changed either. - jclay06, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2same with me. trying to go from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 and i get that lovely message :(
at least i didn't have to do a complete restore afterwards - bushwakko, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2I've already unlocked my iphone with the ZiPhone tool, but I like this better because it's a real bootloader and stuff. Could I just run pwner on it right now? What about the stuff I have already installed my Norwegian langage stuff and the some other stuff I got from the installer app.
- marcoionox, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2Search on torrent sites. The Dev Team only cracks, it doesn't distribute the software.
- MacParrot, on 04/03/2008, -0/+2There most likely is a new model coming out in a few months and waiting was probably the right thing to do.
- MrMacMan, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1by direct you mean you're linking to your own digg submission?
- picturesnstuff, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Once you've used the iPwner button, you need to do the IPSW Builder bit (with or without custom icons) to create a custom firmware upgrade file. This file will have installer on it. Now use Option-Restore in iTunes to put that on your iPod and when it reboots it''ll have the installer.
- SouthsideIrish, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1IClarified. There are links to everything you need, which you would have figure out in the five seconds it took me to find the iPwnage tool.
- freshyill, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1I'd rather wait it out for the better iPhone.
- DaffyDuck, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Spam. That's a webapp and therefore has absolutely nothing to do with this.
- inactive, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1Okay guys. I bit the bullet. I did a restore of 1.1.4 on my unlocked 1.1.3. It looked like it hung for a minute, which made me *****, but everything worked fine.
Starting with a fully locked, freshly restored, 1.1.4 iPhone made this problem go away, and the "pwnage" proceeded just as in the videos. I then restored using iTunes with my custom 1.1.4 firmware, and everything worked great.
Hope this helps. - SouthsideIrish, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1I just did, well doing............da dada dadadadada. Waiting. Wipes your phone clean, so you will have to reinstall everything. This is so easy, and was the first tool I felt comfortable to use to unlock my phone, although it has been jailbroken.
- playmusic, on 04/03/2008, -1/+2Buried for the word "pwnage"
- lukeyd2006, on 04/05/2008, -0/+1Buried for the fact that the name of the tool is "Pwnage" you n00b....
- h0zae, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1does it work with the ipod touch?
- avatarpalin, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1Yes thanks for that, felt like a bit of a nub. I have jailbroken my phone (with ibreak or something like that) I assume this is another one of those but allot slicker.
- macfanboi, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Don't worry, Apple will send you a $100 Apple store gift card if that happens.
- neosublime, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1I love this!
After running installer and all the available apps, I have found that I prefer a stock iPhone.
BUT...
I am on T-Mobile, using T-Zones, and that is the only reason I installed Installer.app...
...until now!
I took the stock 1.1.4 firmware file, and added my T-Zone proxy.pac file, and custom preferences.plist, (2 text files). I took out Installer.app, and all of the prefs for it, built my custom firmware, and restored using iTunes. Now what used to take close to an hour to do can be done in minutes!
I LOVE THE DEV TEAM!!!! - MacParrot, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Apparently cardyology can't grasp the concept that Apple is still making money even if you use different software on your iPhone. Especially if something goes wrong with it and you can't return it to factory fresh thereby voiding your warranty.
Frankly iPhone gen1 doesn't do anything I just have to have (not even when jailbroken) so I'll wait to see what they spring on us with gen2.
Rule 1 when dealing with electronics from anyone including Apple, don't buy gen1 - seanpackage, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1I cannot get the 1.1.4 update to open correctly in pwnagetool... any help? Am I not saving the file correctly?
- Lancelot9201, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1I've looked & can't find one install or procedures document anywhere - Would be nice if I knew exactly what steps to take & exactly what hardware to use - I even read that this will only install via Tiger. Does this mean you really cannot use leopard at all.??
- inactive, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Same. No worky.
- highPhone, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1hey I'm also having this problem on iPhone. the 1.2 firmware put through IPSW builder doesnt have installer.app in the end. 1.1.4 did however....
and strangely enough, i can SSH into iPhone even though openSSH isnt installed....
help? - SouthsideIrish, on 04/04/2008, -0/+1Like, do you know how to use google, for god sakes. Do you read other posts. How many times do I have to say the install procedure, step by step, with pictures is on iclarified. Can you find that without my help or do I have to find the link. BTW, took me two seconds to find it when I googled ipwnage tool.
- Moviespo, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1Wow! I will try it but it looks like it takes a long time. ziphone unlocked my phone in under like 3 minutes was able to throw t-mobile chip inside...
- SouthsideIrish, on 04/03/2008, -0/+1I followed these instructions http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=893 and everything worked fine.
