- retrospect, on 10/10/2007, -2/+38the moment of truth..
- EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+25It's not bricked. It's also not unlocked anymore.
- citizenerased42, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yet there is still no search feature in the damn phone!
- sent from my iphone - BobOki, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I figured out how they can implement a cut/paste or highlight feature.
They will just need to add a software button to switch between highlight mode and navigate mode....
Easy.. done.... NEXT!- WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's the feedback I sent them on the subject. A row of buttons along one of the screen edges (maybe hide-able with a specific gesture or interface element so it's out of the way) that would change the input mode (regular pointer, selecting tool, info tool, search tool)...

- Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I'll try again, first link I gave seems a bit hit & miss right now.

- AvidPreatorian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Is iFuntastic considered an unlock? The Jailing and "breaking out"?
- sholt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2no.
- AvidPreatorian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I just updated, works fine. I used the third party apps through Installer and iFuntastic. I DID NOT unlock from AT&T. Good luck people.

- xoineg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Just restored the iPhone before updating if you have 3rd party apps just in case you end up with a brick
- eridius, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I'm pretty sure the "modified your iPhone's software" here refers to actual unlocking of the phone for use with other carriers, not simply jailbreaking.
- Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You cant be too careful!
- xoineg, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2i have AT&T and a lot of 3rd party software. hopefully the update doesnt break the installer app
- drlha, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It does. 3rd party apps are removed by the update. It doesn't "Brick" the phone however.
- fishbert, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13rd party apps are not removed... you just can't get to them anymore.

- fahrvergnuugen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Well this is a full install of OSX. These "updates" that apple has been sending are actually images of the entire iPhone OS + apps.
- over90000, on 10/10/2007, -7/+5If Windows did upgrades like that everyone would be screaming bloody murder.
- streak, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8Windows does do updates (not even upgrades) like that. And some Windows updates are made without permission.

Apple's guided video tour of the update.- Mizzike, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5I'm an apple fanboy (but increasingly realizing they appear to be headed down Microsoft's destructive path), and even I have to ask, "are people that ***** inept that they need a video tour to perform an update (i.e., plug the sync cable into the phone)?
- jaisin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6If you watched the video you would know that it talks about what the update changes, not how to update it.

- srodolff, on 10/10/2007, -25/+4I thought the iPhone was perfect. At least that's what I've been hearing.
- retrospect, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14I don't recall anyone stating it was perfect, nothing is.
Updates keep pushing it forward though.
- Sent from my iPhone - srodolff, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1I make one comment about how the iPhone hype was overblown starting with Steve Jobs and you Apple fanboys weinies digg me down. For those of us who have a better use of what was $600+ are getting real sick of those of you who think the iPhone is the second coming of Christ. It's a device, like a toaster, and not worth the total cost IMO. And if you can't see the world without rose colored Apple glasses, find a new hobby.
- jkoke, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I think you were dugg down because you had nothing intelligent to say... At least that's why I dugg you down.
- retrospect, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14I don't recall anyone stating it was perfect, nothing is.
- sholt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+40With Installer.app, and on AT&T (not unlocked), the upgrade/restore went fine. No babies eaten.
Apparently, reports are that unlocked phones are re-locked, but haven't heard anything about $400 bricks yet.- precurser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Thanks for that, can more people confirm this?
- macpro2006, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2i can confirm in about 5 min on what happends to my friends
- willclarke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I have the same situation, I have Installer.app and am on AT&T (not unlocked). When I connected my phone, it went in to recovery mode. I had to do a complete restore, which sucks because I've lost all new phone numbers I've put in since my last sync. But it looks like the restore worked and I don't have a brick. It could be coincidental though.
- EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33I can confirm. There have been no eaten babies.
- precurser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3So with Installer.app installed on regular AT&T sim (not unlocked) it updated fine and Installer.app and the 3rd party apps still work? Or did it just wipe them out?
- sholt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I didn't try an upgrade, I went straight to Restore.
EBFoxbat, your experience? - jamminman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'd like to clarify--3rd party apps DO NOT WORK after the update. If you have installer.app your phone won't be bricked, but the 3rd party apps will be gone (along with ringtones). In retrospect, I wish I had not installed the update and had kept my apps instead.
- sholt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I didn't try an upgrade, I went straight to Restore.
- precurser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3So with Installer.app installed on regular AT&T sim (not unlocked) it updated fine and Installer.app and the 3rd party apps still work? Or did it just wipe them out?

- AvidPreatorian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I just updated, works fine. I used the third party apps through Installer and iFuntastic. I DID NOT unlock from AT&T. Good luck people.
- br0ken1128, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2eh the last I heard.. unlocked phones are re-locked but cannot be activated even with the original AT&T sim .. which is in essence .. semi-brick
DVD JON! .. acivate!- battletrax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1With great power, comes well, company control.
- precurser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Thanks for that, can more people confirm this?
- frostbyt, on 10/10/2007, -18/+5Great...I got a brick now. :(
- saralovemuffins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Did yours really brick?
- frostbyt, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3Yes. Now I have to go buy a real one.
- saralovemuffins, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Did you unlock it, or did you just use installer.app?
- frostbyt, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3Yes. Now I have to go buy a real one.
- codehkr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Couldn't wait, could you!
- EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Congrats, but how's your iPhone?
- xoineg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5haha
- antoniojvr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I updated both my unlocked iphones, went to answer the phone, and this is what I see when I get back: http://windsweptsoftware.com/MyHouse/brick1.jpg
- vladin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1ewwwwwww.. thats got to hurt.. take it back anyway, you might get lucky.
- saralovemuffins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Did yours really brick?
- vladin, on 10/10/2007, -12/+4Flash support.. hope hope..
- Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8no such luck
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5How many of you people that want Flash support have ever tried flash on other mobile devices? With the smaller processors comes much lower Flash performance.
- fribhey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3nope nope..
- timdorr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It's never going to happen. Flash has become too complex to run on a mobile device.
- shawnz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3runs on pocketpc
- brutalentropy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Don't hold your breath. I refuse to upgrade my firmware until they either release a flash plugin or password manager, or both. Nothing else is worth having to go back and reinstall all the 3rd party apps I have.
- codehkr, on 10/10/2007, -25/+8What is this iPhone I have been hearing about?
- ATLien, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Now we just need ipod touch 1.1 firmware to fix all its issues!
- abrooks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Supposedly there is an update for the iPod touch, containing "bug fixes."
- thesportoflife, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6it already has 1.1 installed..
- EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2It's out.
- bang21, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I've had absolutely no problems with my touch. Not one crash or reboot needed. I've used Safari/WiFi quite a bit as well as it now being my regular music player (4-8 hours per day).
- GreenAlien, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2@bang21 (and other iPod Touch users). How are you finding your iPod Touch? All the negative reviews (and initial screen issues) have put me off buying one so far. I'm on the verge of buying an iPod Nano as a stopgap for iPod Touch v2 or 3G iPhone. I've been trying to justify the purchase of a Touch (It's not cheap!!) and trying to shrug off each negative point, annoying though they are. At the end of the day, and reviews/iPhone/hype aside, how is it really in day to day use? Worth buying one?
- lickmygiggle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1My first one was excellent (minus the ***** screen), but I exchanged it for a new one, and it's absolutely brilliant.
- dimes, on 10/10/2007, -8/+61But can I send a text to more than ONE FREAKING CONTACT at a time?!?!?!?!?!?!?
- EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12No.
- BobOki, on 10/10/2007, -5/+42Sure just copy and paste the sms messag.... wait... NO COPTYAND PASTE!!! BLARGH!
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1"NO COPTYAND PASTE!!! BLARGH!"
BobOki Smash? - AvidPreatorian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1jsut get an iPhone already and change the record
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1"NO COPTYAND PASTE!!! BLARGH!"
- over90000, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9and how about sending more than one photo in an email.
- shawnz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10or more than zero in an MMS
- Squidly, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11How about deleting more than one email at a time? Meh.
- sophiaperennis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Exactly my thought! How about an Empty Trash Bin button for email? Hello Steve?!
- sophiaperennis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1They also updated the Calculator icon on the main screen to look exactly the same as on the iPod Touch.
- NJRFilms, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I've heard that you can install this just fine with installer.app and related apps on your phone but themes are not working. Can anyone confirm?
- saralovemuffins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'd like to know this as well. Anyone?
- Kruez, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9What's this support for TV out??
- sholt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10for the new component cables that work with the touch.
- EXreaction, on 10/10/2007, -10/+2I'd like to see if Apple is really bricking these iPhones on purpose if they have been modded.
If they do I'd like to see a nice lawsuit against them (a lawsuit could cover many things, even go after AT&T for monopolistic actions), not only because they are complete assholes if they do it, but so other companies know not to ***** over their consumers.- eridius, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2You might want to actually find out an answer to your question before jumping to conclusions.
- init100, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2They might be able to get away with saying that it was "unintentional".
- RST1123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2What do you mean "get away with it." Apple can choose to do business with whomever they wish. They don't need a reason to not work with other service providers.
- Jholder112233, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Unlocking your phone is legal though? So stopping this unlocking is... illegal? I don't know the answer just wondering if the can do this...
- init100, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I mean that destroying someone's hardware intentionally would hopefully be illegal. I'm pretty sure it is here at least, but with the United States you never know.
- RST1123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2What do you mean "get away with it." Apple can choose to do business with whomever they wish. They don't need a reason to not work with other service providers.
- rushco, on 10/10/2007, -9/+8Goooooooooo Apple.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Gooooo what? Gooooo for re-locking unlocked phones?
- virtualball, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Boohoo, if you're going to complain about it, the hacking community doesn't need you. It's the natural cycle of things. Did you really think Apple would break it's contract with AT&T so you can hack their product? No.

- schamz, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1I'm not seeing the update in iTunes yet. TV out - nice! Too bad you have to buy an adaptor :P
- fribhey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11without an adapter, how else would you connect the iphone to your tv? magic?

- nace33, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Is the Tv Out going to work with the new Component Cables??? The apple store isn't updated yet to confirm that it even works with the composite cables even though the video on apple dot com says it can.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2In theory yes, this should work with component cables.

- BrandonR717, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Engadget is reporting it breaks 3rd party apps and the unlock.
- saralovemuffins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/27/iphone-update-r ...
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not really a surprise, rather expected actually. I wasn't expcting Apple to be so arrogant as to brick them on purpose but we knew they would try to relock them and probably block out 3rd party apps.
- streak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, well, so you have to reconfigure your iPhone and jailbreak it again. Windows Mobile users are no better off really when they upgrade.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I beg to differ, my Windows Mobile 5 phone needs no hacks to get 3rd party apps running nor does MS look down on it. And if I ever wish to unlock it I merely have to download an unlock.exe app made for my phone and run it. And pretty much every app on my phone worked on my cousin's Windows Mobile 6 phone as well, including the tool to get streaming youtube videos to play in full screen from youtube's non-mobile version of their site.
- jaisin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Windows mobile sucks. I've had many Windows devices , and the only one I semi enjoyed was the iPaq 4300 back in the day. It had a nice keyboard, and large screen.
- jads, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The only gripe I had with most WM devices was that up until recently, they used volatile memory so if you let the battery drain then all the data is lost. This wasn't even from 1 manufacturer - HP, Dell, HTC, all used to be like that.
- streak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1@Cyber, you can beg to differ but the difference is virtually nil. While you don't have to jailbreak a WM device to install 3rd party apps, it's merely a one-download, one-click process for the iPhone that takes 5 minutes while you sip your coffee. Aside from that, upon updating a jPhone or WM device, to get back to where you were with respect to customizations, you still need to reconfigure with third party apps (which is far easier on the iPhone), Internet settings, mail settings, etc.

- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7The iPhone has no GPS hardware in it. No software on the planet will be able to give a device functional GPS abilities if it has no GPS hardware.
- op12, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Really? http://www.tuaw.com/2007/09/19/navizon-virtual-gps ...
It can always do cell tower triangulation. Likely not as accurate as GPS, but effectively the same functionality. - scarz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2You sir are an idiot. Even a $2 cell phone with support for E911 can locate your position via triangulation.
- underburn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1scarz, you're clearly missing the point, the fact is that similar results can be acheived without the hardware.
- op12, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Really? http://www.tuaw.com/2007/09/19/navizon-virtual-gps ...

Now thats a good feature, I am on Cingular and used my phone just a little online while in another country and was billed $120 for the internet usage alone. And at least on my phone I coudl turn it off, i'd hate to think what it was like before for iPhone users who traveled internationally without an international data plan.- mikev, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1$1,300 bucks for me. :P
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Dear lord...

- sophiaperennis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Also not mentioned in Apple's list, is you're now able to pick your New Text Message sound: Tri-tone, Chime, Glass, Horn, Bell, or Electronic.

- runnerr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16NO they are not... they are still unlocked and useable... just cant upgrade to new firmware
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5As he said...

- nace33, on 10/10/2007, -6/+38No Flash :( Apple get your head out of your ass and put flash in so we don't have to experience the "baby internet".
- eridius, on 10/10/2007, -13/+4It's not Apple's fault, flash doesn't run on ARM (yet). Besides, flash is a complete CPU and resource hog, if flash ever did make it onto ARM processors and was included in the iPhone, without some serious optimization work it would result in a significant battery hit.
- WarezAppz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14This is simply NOT true. Flash does work on ARM processors (http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates ... which includes Windows Mobile). Please research before posting *****!
- streak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It's Apple's "fault" for being unwilling to pay Adobe to port Flash to iPhone.
- dontaskagain, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I suspect that adobe is to blame for that since it must be licensed and they are very funny about that kind of thing (see wii opera)
- Mizzike, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1a friend and i discussed this today and he suggested that apple didn't include flash because it owns quicktime and somehow flash is a competitor to quicktime. i said it's possible that could be a reason, but my gosh, why would apple screw its fanbase out of something that so many web sites use?
then again, one has to wonder what the real motive behind keeping it locked is all about... argh, apple, please don't turn into a microsoft. one is enough; the world need not have two. - dlsspy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I can only hope more major browsers exclude flash support. It's generally used very badly. I imagine there are going to be *way* more complaints if they do ever add flash support than they're getting now.
What are you going to do when you go to some ``cool'' site that uses flash for navigation, except with wholly non-standard visual elements that require mouseovers to even guess how to use it? There's...no mouse.
Similarly, what about flash games, or flash widgets that require drag and drop (mouse and clicks).
Or just expect you to have a big-ass screen and an ultra-powerful computer and really high bandwidth to experience all these great wonders they've brought you.
YouTube and the like do OK with flash. Most other sites are at best a nuisance on the desktop.

- mohrt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4The new iTunes icon is on the right, it is the only one.
- nace33, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Double tap on home button is sweet.
- iTorrey, on 10/10/2007, -8/+7I have no 3rd party apps and my iphone is not unlocked, I have nothing special about my phone. I downloaded the update and the update started and my iphone said "Connect to iTunes" which it already was... then iTunes told me the update couldn't work due to an unknown error and then when I reseated my iPhone, iTunes told me that it was in recovery mode and had to be restored, erasing everything. Oh joy, I can't wait to sync all my music, contacts, bookmarks and e-mail settings again! Thanks!
- spargett, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6This has happened to me with the two previous updates, first update there were no mods to the phone, 2nd update I had 3rd party updates. I guess this is a pretty common error.
Just as I cursed aloud upon it happening the second time, my friend said "Well, you did something wrong. Check your cable.", them immediately cursed when the same thing happened to his non-modded phone.
So download all the photos you've taken on it, cause you loose them.- kranki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Same thing happened to me. This is really annoying cause I had some pictures in there that I had not saved. This locked hardware thing is really starting to annoy me. I am not sure that I will bother with any new locked Apple/Microsoft whomever products any more. This is just getting ridiculous
- bekind, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Happened to me too, lost all my iPhone photos
- spargett, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6This has happened to me with the two previous updates, first update there were no mods to the phone, 2nd update I had 3rd party updates. I guess this is a pretty common error.

update :
Update 2:35PM: Richard, from wireless info, says he can't apply his update.
Update 2:34PM: Readers are reporting unlocked iPhones result in SIM errors
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!- macpro2006, on 10/10/2007, -8/+8***** you. some of us want T-Mobile and not gay ass AT&T.
- betobeto, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8A great day for who? Do you work on AT&T or something?
- sholt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5"Invalid SIM Error" is a sign of the phone being re-locked to the AT&T network, NOT the phone becoming permanently inoperable ("bricked").
To be honest, this is the expected outcome. Now, the question is: "is the IMEI number intact?" - RST1123, on 10/10/2007, -6/+8Oh man i really hope motabus gets cancer, this will be a great day.
update:
Update 3:05 PM: He hasn't posted back, maybe he's succumbed!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!- motabus, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2no no im not dead, i was too busy droooooooooooooooooooooooping loads on ya moms chest
- BobOki, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Wow..... back to middle school much?
- motabus, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2no no im not dead, i was too busy droooooooooooooooooooooooping loads on ya moms chest
- diggmaddy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Bitter huh? Bitter that you're stuck with AT&T for 2 years while others can enjoy the freedom to choose whiever carrier they want to use?
- jaisin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Freedom to choose T-Mobile? I'm not really jealous of that.
- danielrh9, on 10/10/2007, -13/+8The media is going to slaughter Apple if this completely bricks iPhones beyond repair. And they should.
- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2Because they're blocking illegal hacking of their product?
- Stirk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4It is not illegal to unlock your cell phone in the United States
- xkorbin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm American, and I am pretty sure, from what my Euro friends tell me, it's even required in the UK for a provider to give you the ability to unlock.
- br0ken1128, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't see this exclusive contract with AT&T amounting to much in the long run .. when will someone sue apple? since it's in the DMCA that people are allowed to unlock their phones, isn't bricking their product as a result a violation of our right?
- br0ken1128, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's certainly not illegal in my case.. I cancelled my at&t contract and paid my early termination fee .. I went to another provider that I could get cheaper service with .. 1500 minutes, full unlimited internet .. free nights and weekend at a considerably reduced cost .. since I left AT&T and paid my fees .. I'm allowed by law to unlock my phone..
They are releasing software that they know will damage unlocked phones.. could THAT be illegal? .. and is unlocking my iphone REALLY a void of warranty? .. I'll bet you anything if I called apple and told them I left at&t I couldn't get my unlock from them.. or from at&t .. but try that with your motorola phone and you'll get your little (usually 4 digit) unlock code so you can take your phone with you to another provider..
This is ***** .. seriously .. I'm not updating my phone, period .. and until they offer something WORTH upgrading to (mms .. etc) .. I'm not even going to worry about following these stories anymore.. I'll continue enjoying my cheap monthly service, 1500 minutes and what appears to be much quicker internet access through the other provider ;)
- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2Because they're blocking illegal hacking of their product?
- sio2man, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9iToner still works well after the update
- sio2man, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Crap. I take it back. It didn't brick the phone, but none of the ring tones will copy to the iPhone
- ZeroQuest, on 10/10/2007, -11/+5IT APPEARS TO BE BRICKING SOME PHONES:
http://www.everythingiphone.com/forum/iphone/offic ...- mellenger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11no it's not. it's just relocking them.
- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6CALM DOWN! Everything will be ok.
- ausfahrt, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2wow to all the i hope it bricks iphones. Are you that dumb that you think it wont be fixed by the iphone dev team and that another unlocker will be out ASAP. All you have to do is not update and wait. Be patient, and in a week or two youll be fine. There is always away. Jobs even said it would be a back and forth game.
- spargett, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6The unknown error when trying to update, which forces your phone into recovery mode and makes you restore has always happened. This has happened to me with the two previous updates, first update there were no mods to the phone, 2nd update I had 3rd party updates. I guess this is a pretty common error.
Just as I cursed aloud upon it happening the second time, my friend said "Well, you did something wrong. Check your cable.", them immediately cursed when the same thing happened to his non-modded phone.
So download all the photos you've taken on it, cause you loose them. Just an FYI to everyone from personal experience. - xmerqx, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Has anyone upgraded and successfully activated the phone using the iAsign method?
- jstennis1591, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1i heard that the update renders all such tools as iAssign, iNdependence, iActivator NON WORKING
use at your own risk
- jstennis1591, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1i heard that the update renders all such tools as iAssign, iNdependence, iActivator NON WORKING
- shabu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27Why are people talking about $600/$400 bricks, and getting dugg up for it? Why would anyone with an unlocked phone apply the update till the issues are fixed? It's not like Apple is silently sneaking the update onto phones!
A $400 v1.0.2 iphone is not too bad (better than a paperweight anyways)- BobOki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah, and even if they did, there is no push feature in iTunes 7.4.1.2 and below, so just don't update and enjoy forever.
- mellenger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1it's not bricking any phones!
- xkorbin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Just learn to use LittleSnitch to stop the update check.
- pumacub, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Silly question... does anyone happen to know if this update will update the background of the four bottom icons to match that of the iPod Touch? The glossy black looks so much better than that dotted silver.
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was kinda hoping for that too...but doesn't seem to be the case.
- waynesun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You can remedy this by getting Installer.app (if it works for 1.1.1.. it's not too clear to me yet), download Customize.app and the transparent .png files, and use customize.app to replace the original dock image.
- xkorbin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I don't know why Apple would go off and change the dock image and every other promotional video that shows off their glistening springboard and other parts of the interface.
- sophiaperennis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Nope. They're unchanged after the 1.1.1 update. The Calculator icon got updated though, to match the iPod Touch.
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I was kinda hoping for that too...but doesn't seem to be the case.
- aleib, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2Updated my phone no problems. Wish they would have added some new features instead of the itunes store.
- saralovemuffins, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Did you mod your phone in any way before the update? (unlocking/using installer.app/using iToner to add ringtones/etc.)
- MadKennyP, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Obviously, you've forgotten the new calculator icon.
- adrianc1982, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12This is only good news, really, the update is not a forced update or else your phone will not work. The new features are good but I can live without, i think i will pass until its safe, im not in a rush for louder speakers.
- sholt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9For the brave (or foolish) souls with unlocked phones who updated: Is your IMEI intact, or is it: 004999010640000?
- SPECOPS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I have found 4 phones now with that IMEI number! (unlocked and updated to 1.1.1)
- SPECOPS, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This is the problem. THe free sim unlock changed everyone's IMEI to 004999010640000 - so they are now checking the IMEI to when it was first activated to the SIM to ensure a match, and if you look on the back of your box, you'll notice your original IMEI #. So, when (if) this new version is cracked, it will just be a matter of switching the blacklisted non-matching IMEI 0049990... back to your original IMEI that you can find on the back of your box, or receipt. It should then work again just fine. Just have patience. (and no, getting a new SIM from att won't work either)
- AntiMidas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0OK, so I'm foolish, now that is out of the way.
I have my old SIM from my previous phone and i put in in the iPhone and it shows its IMEI number. My SIM from the iPhone shows the 0049.... Anyways, why wouldn't getting a new SIM from AT&T work?
- ausfahrt, on 10/10/2007, -11/+4I got dugg down for speaking out against the people who hoped this would brick iphones. Defending that the dev team would have a fix soon and to be patient. While others with similar comments got dugg up. Ah well
- BobOki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1*gives you a hero cookie*
Feel better kido.... or show your support by sending them $$...

- macpro2006, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2my friend wants to know if installer.app is bricking phones.
- vincenzo7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4then have your friend reply?
- sholt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No. So long as you're on AT&T, you shouldn't have any major issues. But you may need to do a full restore.
- xoineg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3so far i only read reports that say that some functions are not working like themes and some other things like games...nothing huge yet
- jeduan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It is not
- MasterQ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1can you jailbreak and reinstall installer.app once you have updated? does it not work/brick?
- timshady4097, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2new firmware disables free ringtones, if you didnt buy them with itunes then you lose them... this sucks
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2iToner still works.
- teamfun, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Installer.app and all 3rd party apps wiped off -- but everything else works fine. -
- macpro2006, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3well at least you can still install it back on
- teamfun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I will! Just have to wait for the new installer.app for the updated firmware.
- macpro2006, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2ahh true
thats sucks
- macpro2006, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2ahh true
- teamfun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I will! Just have to wait for the new installer.app for the updated firmware.
- macpro2006, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3well at least you can still install it back on
- LIFESABRE, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Think voice dial will ever come? Why have blue tooth with out it?
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7*Sigh* still no MMS support.
- mohrt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11You can now turn on closed-captioning under the iPod settings... something not mentioned by apple?
- Moviespo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Before doing the update I copied the app/tap install app, BSD and open ssh. Will see if these can be re:installed via terminal.....all in all no more apps... phone works great just no more install or 3 party software..party is over. Too many bugs in safari so did the upgrade for safety... Back to the drawing board..
If they can send a man to the moon and back then it's only a matter of time before this is fixed So you can put third party apps back on you mini mac phone...
Let's see a 17 year old hacked the i-phone then perhaps a 5th grader will crack the firmware update....
Are you smarter than a 5th grader? -
