- dinopio, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15modified basebands = anysim and iunlock
- jperdomo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I have had a bricked iPhone sitting on my desk for two weeks thanks to Gizmodo mistakenly claiming that a 1.1.1 update would cause only a need to reactivate (as an at&t customer shouldn't be a problem) WRONG! So please iPhone Dev Team make my iPhone rise from the grave. All I want is a virgin iPhone with the newest firmware. No more tinkering for me but, I need my iPhone back soon.
- br0ken1128, on 10/16/2007, -2/+8Jailbreak is a term that is often being misused and it makes me cringe .. "I jailbreaked my iPhone" .. *shudder* .. basically jailbreak means you get out of the environment that protects you from root access to the phone.. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chroot and search for Jail ... also remember that google is your friend .. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=chroot+jail
- canthraxp, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8"Want to jailbreak your 1.1.1 iPhone so you can access all its files and install third party apps? Don't want to wait for Niacin's patch to leave beta?..." ... Want to be the first on your block to own the v1.1.1 glossy iBrick?
Wait for stable the stable *****. - acbeck58, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5I want unlock.
- danasghar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4for everyone who complains that apple has the worst "fanyboys" please refer back to this comment.
- nihilisticmonk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Annoying,
The Hack made for 1.0.2 has ***** up peoples base bands, but instead, they're concentrating on the 1.1.1 jailbreak.
How about fixing your sloppy hax from the first time around first! Unless the unlocked 1.0.2 community can have an upgrade path, this groups credence is going to wane significantly. - cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They have historically asked NOT to be linked to due to traffic concerns. This would be most applicable to linking to them from digg.
- Superkid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You fools, thats "Star Wars Bear"
- Moviespo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1humm all was going well then when I got to 5 it gave me this.
-bash: ./iphuc: cannot execute binary file
Any ideas... Will try again...
The kitchen is still closed... - nihilisticmonk, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2It's not apples fault, it's the actual hack itself.
Read this
http://code.google.com/p/iphone-elite/wiki/iPhoneB ...
"nySIM and iUnlock were patched to make a routine exit with 0 (successful) to unlock the phone. Only problem was that that routine is NOT only called by NCK but rather by about six routines total. The other five didn't expect 00 to be there and were therefore spammed across your BB during upgrade. In short, the wrong bytes were patched and now you're all bricked. No, it wasn't Apple's fault. Rather than figure out how to fix this themselves, the iPhone Dev Team would rather work on jailbreaking the new 1.1.1 and keep accepting your donations. We want this fixed -- we want them to take responsibility for their bunk code." - Moviespo, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Thanks! Will try again....
- RadiatedAnt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Thank you all is well in the tome of wikipedia, like salami slicing ;) yes its computer related too!
- AndrewWiggin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Why no link to the iPhone Dev Team from TUAW?
Why is http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php?title=M ... still mostly in red?
This is interesting, but I want the source too. - antoniojvr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You lose at the internets.
- kkiran, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1So this means we can activate our non-iPhone ATT sims with this method,is it? Does it pertain to a factory installed 1.1.1 iPhone? I am fed up of hunting for batch 38 phones :( You rock iPhone Dev!!
- CJChesterson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You probably have the wrong arch. Compare `file iphuc` to your `uname -a`.
- cypherhash, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Niacin is the man. He wrote the TIFF exploit to make it a thousand times easier than having to downgrade and make the symlinks. I can assure you his method is awesome and works as I've done it twice now (first time I had some old apps still hanging around that wouldn't uninstall so I restored it and did it a second time). It works great.
- wm666, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I unlock my phone with IPSF... not dare to try it... LOL
- murmurah, on 10/10/2008, -0/+0hh
- EatingPie, on 10/11/2007, -5/+5A few answers to common questions on TUAW.
This is from the iPhone Dev Team, and contains instructions for Mac (Intel & PPC) as well as Win32.
It uses the symlink method, not the TIFF exploit.
This will work with previously jailbroken iPhones.
I do not know what it means by "non-AT&T SIMS" since it does NOT pertain to Unlocked phones (Orange?).
I believe this will work with AT&T GoPhone SIMS, but I haven't tried it yet.
Yes, it requires a fair amount of Terminal usage and typing!
If you have previously UNLOCKED your iPhone, DO NOT USE THIS HACK!
-Pie - Proctor, on 10/14/2007, -1/+1tuaw is boring.
- superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Or make sure it's executable (chmod +x ./iphuc)
- webmasterx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great news !
- everythingmacs, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I have so been waiting for this, but it seems like alot more work than the 1.0.2 one. I think I just plugged it in, turned it on and it worked in 2 minutes. Alot of steps for this. Im not unlocking my phone though. I dont want a brick on the next updat.e
- sakuraz, on 10/16/2007, -3/+2.....HA ha
- AndrewWiggin, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3I don't know why people are digging you down. You are exactly right.
- xGrill, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1http://jailbreak.toc2rta.com/e.tif direct link to image
- nm42, on 10/11/2007, -4/+0For those of you who believed the dialog that popped up saying "Would you like to upgrade to 1.1.1? If you don't like it, you can always downgrade..." (did we forget to mention that we won't downgrade your firmware? How could we forget to mention that?), here's a link to the guys doing the work on the 1.1.1 anySIM:
http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Pa ...
They're still more than a ways off, if you check out their downgrade instructions:
http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Downgra ...
But keep in mind that even if you downgrade, your actual phone portion won't work again. Thanks Apple. - sirhomer, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1This will cause you to have a bricked iPhone in the future. Do yourself a favor and return the piece of ***** iPhone while you can. Enough with this Apple hype and fanboyism buy a real phone that doesn't suck off Steve Jobs.
- RadiatedAnt, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3WTF is it with this damned Jailbreak term?! Did you pay your iPhones bond? Had to break in to maximum security prison because your phone sexually assaulted you? someone clue me in.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Let me get this straight. This is the same team that said their unlock would survive firmware updates, but instead totally bricked people's phones, which they conveniently blamed on Apple. Why would anyone trust these morons again?
