"Slide to Unlock"; I like the pun! :) - antdude, on 10/10/2007, -0/+37At first, I thought this was from Apple. :)
- zoomie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15A friend of mine unlocked his iphone with the dev team's unlock method via the command line interface. This new method is just a GUI on top of their original unlock. It just makes it simpler to unlock for non-hacker folks.
- TiKoZ, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Like they don't hack microsoft's products!!
- ScottishCaptain, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Having an unlocked iPhone myself, I should note that I've disabled updates to the iPhone in iTunes.
Rumor has it (right now), that the new 1.1.1 firmware comes with a baseband update which will relock the iPhone, as well as several "cleanup" fixes to Springboard that prevent third party applications.
Since we can't verify that it is/isn't impossible to downgrade, you should all probably disable autoupdate should you accidentally click "Yes" when iTunes asks you if you want to go to v1.1.1.
-SC - Celeron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Heh, their Google Project name is IPHUC. :)
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Why are people buying a product just so they can wait for features to trickle out considering that apple can relock and disable any third party app at any time?
- zoomie, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Cool beans...just in time. I just completed my online order at apple.com
- samgab, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Well, at the end of the day, it's jsut confusing.
- bookish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5power to the non hackers.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5it works. i'd hold off and see if it survives a software update, though.
- Codee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Lucy, you've got some splaing to do.
http://www.digg.com/apple/100_000_offered_to_freely_release_iPhone_unlocking_software - idugcoal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You're jsut confused. :)
The iPhone Dev team has been hacking away at the iPhone since its release, and are in no way connected to Apple. At least, not that we know of... - dagamer34, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4iTunes WiFi music store isn't worth not having an unlocked iPhone. I'll live.
- streetstealth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4When the iPhone came out, I thought, "well, I'll probably buy one a year from now when they're like $300 and the community has hacked all sorts of cool stuff onto it and finally unlocked it."
And yet here we are just in September. Whoa. - Disodium, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4yes, but you will need a data plan if you want to use the online capabilities without a wifi connection. And of course visual voicemail wont work but there are work arounds for youtube
- Turnar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Actually, with pressure from AT&T, that might be the first thing they target. This is soon to become the most common hack for unlocking the iPhone - and depending what kind of pressure AT&T can put on Apple a firmware update might intentionally erase this unlock. Apple says they won't interfere with 3rd party apps, but this might not fall under that classification in the corporate eyes.
- gophernut, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5If someone verify's it works I might be tempted to get one
- bwmdiym, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If you are in Ontario just drive to Mi and go to the mac store and buy one because 1300 dollars for that damn thing is not worth it!
- reddevil3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Ok I'm a total noob when it comes to "unlocking" phones. I currently have a T-mobile contract, does this unlock mean that I can now use an iPhone on my T-mobile network?
- suprxtragrav, on 12/09/2008, -2/+5wait hold the phone.
do they mean the iphone dev team? as in the apple team?
or am i jsut confused? - idugcoal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Yes.
- mikev, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3it's coming. :( most likely will be bundled with the itunes store and other fixes
- BTallack, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Excellent. Now I just need to find a way to import a sealed iPhone into Canada without paying the eBay tax. (not to mention most of the iPhones on eBay are already hardware unlocked and commanding a premium price)
- grant1080, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The Dev Team rocks,
thanks for all your efforts! - D4V1S, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3i jsut lol'd
- sakuraz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Okay, time to bring out my credit card.
- pengas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Woot!
Thanx guys for a great job. - Wang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Be careful! Check out the hackint0sh.org forums before using this unlock....a lot of people had problems with it! Seems like the previously released free unlocks are more stable at this point.
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If Rogers is GSM, Yes...
- Disodium, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3SWEET! Now i just need to find $400
- BrandonTurner, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4They keep saying 'open source', but I am having the hardest time actually finding the source code, can anyone help me out?
- MLyzz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Q: Couldn't locate byte...
A: Your firmware is already patched or modified or at leas tnot apple default of the fls, try a restore with bbupdater - Hamletlere, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2If you have a Mac, download iNdependence (http://code.google.com/p/independence). It's a one-click activation process, and my Cingular GoPhone SIM is working just fine.
- soumenb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Actually I did a full restore of my phone with iTunes, and then ran the anySIM process. Guess I have to try again with bbupdater. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
- soumenb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This does not seem to work for me. I am getting this error after running the program...
UNLOCK FAILURE
Couldn't locate bytes to patch.
Worst thing, it does not recognize even my AT&T SIM after this process. I had to restore using iTunes. Anybody else faced this problem? - shooby, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Source code for this has not been released yet. It will in a few days. Read the engadget article about it
- Wang, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2check hackint0sh.org forums - many people have had problems with this unlock.
- spydon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why should they decide what we can do that something that we have BOUGHT!
- estvir, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5"verify's"
Seriously.. ? Verifies. - vat0r, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4As if this was'nt Apple's eventual goal.
- winstonpr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Steve must be be very pleased - I don't foresee any firmware attacks to "resolve" this hack.
- Gwydion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You're telling me. I went into a Fido World shop here where they had unlocked phones from the States that we don't have here...The iPhone cost $1300.
- Gutterpunk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So how is your job at iphoneunlocking.com?
- Kugo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This is a scumbag TUAW shill piece and SillyMamma is either lame, stupid, or in their employ. To have it their way, TUAW did all the work - not the dev team. Boycott TUAW starting today and link to the dev team directly.
http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/ - pengas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This GUI version sucks a**..
Not only it didn't work but it bricked my iphone.. I've restored it and then jailbroke it to try this one..
Now my phone is not working all together (can't make calls). - D4V1S, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2so did i, the title is very misleading...but the news is good, regardless.
- Gutterpunk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It will probably be a strayman from Apple to please ATT. I am starting to be convinced that Apple doesn't mind the unlocker in any form or shape.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Definitely not, apple locked it, they aren't going to help people get around it.
- darkfus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I guess the iPhone dev team doesn't actually work for Apple?
