This is pathetic! - drlha, on 08/07/2008, -1/+5Apple needs to sort this ***** out. Its ridiculous that people can't (for example) write a book on how to code for the iPhone because of this NDA.
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -1/+5Like many Apple agreements, I dont think this NDA is legal.
If only Apple can distribute programming tips and no one els, that means they can dictate which people or companies to help. That's an anti-competitive act and against the law.
Apple simply wants the one to develop apps not have 3rd party people do it. Again more $$ for Apple.
Sorry I'd rather wait a little to have something like the Samsung i900 or HTC touch professional. - Mardala, on 08/07/2008, -0/+4I wouldn't call Apple a monopoly, but they are more restrictive in their business "lock in" than Microsoft. Apple has always been a fairly small company compared to the Goliaths like Microsoft. But I sense as they are getting bigger and more popular you'll see more growing pains and more f*ck ups on their end.
- Mier, on 08/07/2008, -2/+5baby man spam.
- maanwi, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3The point of an NDA is to protect a company's trade secrets. Writing your own code and sharing it with others has nothing to do with Apple, and they shouldn't be able to regulate that exchange of information.
- BoneheadFarker, on 08/07/2008, -1/+4It's more then that...something on Digg is broken...
- YourMaster, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3Note to BenjaminWill: not everything is related to Microsoft. This, for instance, has nothing to do with Microsoft whatsoever. Stop posting as if it were all a giant conspiracy. Furthermore, the leader of the political party you didn't vote for is not responsible for every evil in the world, and the government isn't secretly inserting rainbows into the water supply.

- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -1/+3Maybe Steve Jobs can buy them all the "I Am Rich" app, and that'll placate them for a while.

"Hi, I'm [MBM/MM], I had 6 stories on the front page of digg today. Do you love me yet? Am I like, internet famous?" - thefinger, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2BenjaminWill: an Apple castrato if there ever was one.
- RealHyperX, on 08/07/2008, -1/+3hey now, nobody better be saying bad things about apple...
- Oddish, on 08/06/2008, -1/+3Are you going to flap your yap about Cydia / Installer in every iPhone story today? We get it, you jailbroke your iPhone and you're obviously very l33t.
- codeblue315, on 08/07/2008, -1/+3Hey! I see you're new to Digg, let me be the first to say welcome!
/sarcasm - jd7seven, on 08/07/2008, -2/+4Apple is shooting themselves in the foot, a good community and sharing of at least some basic knowledge leads to building more innovative software, not leaving every developer to fend for themselves. If Apple doesn't realize this the iPhone will likely fall to Android and OpenMoko.
- digital0verdose, on 08/07/2008, -2/+4***** APPLE
- 11oops, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2***** thing sucks
(Digg too. Fix the comments!) - inactive, on 08/07/2008, -1/+3Precisely. Freedom of Speech is a right. A right that you waive when you sign an NDA.
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -4/+61. Stop crying about it.
2. Choose another less-oppressive/more popular platform and develop for that. After all Nokia sold more phone last month than Apple did since the iPhone launched.
Nobody is forcing you to develop for the iPhone. You don't like Apple? Then ditch them. Market forces, I thought that's what you Americans did so well. - adamkmccarthy, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2yet when the whole sdk is freely accessible to anyone to download...an NDA is fairly useless isn't it. the people who are going to want to steal your "trade secrets" won't be reading blogs and tech articles to find them out, they will have bowed to apple's developer tax, got them some developer keys, downloaded it and already found out by dissecting the SDK.
- tnoy, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2"Google can't even get people to carry their os."
HTC's version is expected to come out around October/November.
The Android platform isn't even complete. Even Google said that we wouldn't see phones based on it until late 2008. - thefinger, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1I thought it said "milfed". Show's you where my mind is. haha!!
- Klowner, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2Isn't that the entire point of an NDA?
- MacTyler, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1A fairly good analysis of the current situation regarding the NDA

- genepooldesign, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1Here's my question: How in the hell does apple know if someone discusses the code over an email system such as their gmail or other non-apple email systems? Sounds like something that can be circumvented by someone with a usable brain.
- Philbert, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1What they care about is people with fat wallets.

Nice to know Apple retains the right to remotely disable stuff I've paid for. - scoobycarolan, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2ALL BOW TO THE HYPNOTOAD!!
- mrsteveman1, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2Freedom of speech has to do with the government censoring people. You haven't given up your right to free speech by signing a contract (and that would in fact, be an illegal contract term AFAIK), you have however permitted the company to exercise whatever legal penalties you agreed to in the contract if you violate it.
Free speech is not at all involved. - xsecretfiles, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2...They can always go to the Jailbroken community for help, we are willing to "donate" as long as its a good app.......
- mrsteveman1, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1News flash, Apple is a controlling little bitch who abuses their own customers and refuses to communicate about what they are doing unless it happens to be a packed media event.
- Zippo, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1I guess you could call me an Apple fanboy. I own a Macbook Pro, a couple iPods, an iPhone, an Airport Extreme, my job requires that I use a Mac Pro. Hell, I even have a small aquarium made out of an old Powermac Cube G4.
But even I agree this NDA is *****. It's going to do nothing but cripple the developer community. Developers solve problems by talking to other developers. They help each other - that's what a community is!
C'mon Apple, you listened to your consumers by introducing the SDK. Listen to us again; drop the NDA!
We need better apps for the iPhone/touch. We need open source development. We need coders to be able to help one-another out.
Leaving developers alone - making them have to figure ***** out themselves or not being able to do certain things - is going to stunt growth and result in low-quality apps.
Most of the apps now are more like Dashboard widgets. I'm not saying apps should be huge and crazy, but unless the NDA is dropped, that's all we're going to see - a mass of lackluster widgets and novelty apps. - vogelshock, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1Litigate it.
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1I like how you separated the "Apple" and the "s" in your submission so you'd get more visibility.
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1Trade secrets > Freedom of speech
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1They would be shut down in record time (Thats the DMCA at work). Apples lawyers love overtime. How can they guarantee proper product support with the wave after wave of "fixes" (fixed anti-circumvention measures) contained in every new release of iTunes.
- CynicalTyler, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1What's to stop people posting somewhat useful coding tutorials on anonymous forums? (Of course, nothing too obviously self-identifying.) Do you really think their NDA is powerful enough to allow them to issue take-down notices?
- Kelmon, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0BUZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMM!
...well, you come up with a better spelling for that sound... - jakatak, on 08/07/2008, -2/+2that's what they said when iPod came out. Oh, sony this or Creative that. No one ever touched the iPod. The same goes here.
Listen, Apple is the first out the door with a great touch device and tons of apps that people want with more on the way. They will always maintain the majority as long as they don't do something disastrous.
Why do you think all the coders are angry. Because they know this is the platform to be on to make a good living.
Android has a long way to go. Google can't even get people to carry their os. As for OpenMoko, that's pretty dismall. I looked into that and they don't have anything. It's all about quantity of apps, not quality of platform. The end user doesn't care. Sorry to say that, but it's the way of the business. - sickb13, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1Craptastic Fact #5234 About Apple:
Our products are awesome, as long as you want to use them our way with our code.
Craptrastic Fact #5235 About Apple:
We're so sleek and trendy and cool, and that's who we cater to - sleek, trendy, cool people who don't know jack ***** about engineering.
News For Nerds:
Apple doesn't give a ***** about you. They care about mainstream america. - naugrim, on 08/08/2008, -1/+1MrBabySpam?
- sandworm, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1Considering that I will be developing some game apps for the platform it is somewhat annoying to hear the NDA is still in place after the beta period is supposedly ended....
It's just flat counter productive to not allow the development community to talk to one another.
It's also just bad business, obviously this continued restriction at this point is the basically the 'pet project' of some Mid-level V.P. who wants someone to notice him, perhaps he no longer likes his office and wants a corner one.... - Kebie, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1Seriously Apple has some problems and you guys need to start fighting back, but you don't you just blindly love them so much. Someone went and voted down every single comment in here that are legitimate comments.
