- jackwaters, on 09/14/2008, -2/+39Is anyone else not surprised by this? A large number of apps are free in the store and people are more than willing to give free apps a go because there is no risk involved. If they don't like the app all they have to do is delete and they haven't lost a penny. Only a small handful of songs are free every week and people are a lot less willing to part with their money.
- webresources, on 09/14/2008, -1/+21It would be great to hear the ratio of free & paid apps.
- inactive, on 09/15/2008, -0/+14.00=free=WTF I will download it and check it out.
.99=hmmm=I will think about it. - inactive, on 09/15/2008, -1/+10Well no *****. Free > 99 cents
- Maxjan, on 09/15/2008, -0/+5no you didn't...
- belfastbiker, on 09/15/2008, -1/+6I've downloaded abour 25 paid for apps since getting it a coupla days ago. At those prices, it's a steal.
- Tenoq, on 09/15/2008, -1/+6*facepalm*
And why Windows Mobile users go on and on about how big the library of software is for them? :p - philberttheduck, on 09/15/2008, -1/+6How's that Razr treating you?
- abajaj2280, on 09/15/2008, -0/+4I don't even have an iPhone/iTouch and i still download apps for the day that i magically get one!
- alphabetagaga, on 09/14/2008, -2/+6I would like to see a breakdown of this, in addition to whether or not these totals are of UNIQUE applications. Are updates to apps counted? Nearly every app I've downloaded has had at least two iterations, which would make for some nice number padding. Impressive nonetheless.
- Zippo, on 09/15/2008, -0/+2Um... yeah you can.
- giogalindo, on 09/15/2008, -0/+2i can say that i helped contribute to a lot of those.
- estima, on 09/15/2008, -1/+3It's just amazing. I already bought over $30 worth of apps... very very fun to explore the app store. It's only a start.
- MyNameIsJoe, on 09/15/2008, -1/+3It would probably be more appropriate to compare the two in dollars of sales. If the app store hits a billion dollars in sales in it's first year that would be a big deal.
- Tracknod, on 09/15/2008, -0/+2No, with out a doubt, you can not crack any appstore app.... Nothing to see here, Move along citizen.
- BlueStarr, on 09/15/2008, -0/+2I ***** hate ATT. That's the only reason why I won't get an iPhone. I'm thinking of getting the prepaid version jailbreak the sucker and go to with another carrier.
- MacParrot, on 09/15/2008, -0/+2Freaking digg hater trolls...bunch of losers.
- MacParrot, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1This really is the only way you get any attention at all isn't it?
- BrendanSheehan, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1Most of the free ones suck, people are downloading paid ones, in large numbers. Some are quite good even, seriously.
- mrBitch, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1+1 to Tenoq for eating tacochamp's lunch!
@tacochamp : so you are saying that Windows Mobile is even MORE lacking in functionality? - lukedude, on 09/15/2008, -2/+3that's because paying for music is for fools
- BrendanSheehan, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1I've spent more money on apps in two months than I spent one music in the last two years (and I pay for my downloads), *****! What's annoying is it's so easy to buy.
Must, resist, Tiger, Woods, when, it, comes, out! And yes, it's coming - this year in fact. - daschupa, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1Wait, did anyone mention that many are free? Oh, wait, only 12 of you...
- RobotBuddha, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1I just want two specific hacks. I dream of a world where the scrabble app will allow me to play my own music instead of their crappy 8-bit soundtrack, and I can have pandora or last.fm streaming in the background.
- duggdowncatisad, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1Does it count as a download every time someone downloads an update for an app they already have?
- straxxus, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1Explain the prepaid version bit. I've never heard of the iphone being able to do that?
- BrendanSheehan, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1It'll be closer to 20 Million by the end of the year after Christmas. They'll double their guesstimate.
- philberttheduck, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1Wait until someone releases a free, hide-at-any-time porn app.. "iPhone App the only thing downloaded in last month"
- Electricpigdigg, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1It shouldn't be that much of a surprise given that many apps are free, some of them pretty good too, as well as the ones loads of people will grab anyway like Facebook or MySpace.
- straxxus, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1nevermind. Just did the research.
- straxxus, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1I think having an iphone would be nice for the variety of apps, media and other nice things that go along with it.....but I just can't be tied down to AT&T. It is such a deal breaker for me. I don't mind waiting a while for next best thing.
- BlueStarr, on 09/15/2008, -1/+212 mill? So then Apple met is 10 mill mark.
Steve Jobs is the real maverick. - BlueStarr, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1No I didn't get it.
- inactive, on 09/15/2008, -1/+2Name them
- shank2001, on 09/15/2008, -3/+3Actually aren't they forgetting about the iPod Touches?
- locojones, on 09/15/2008, -1/+1I wonder if they've factored in all the repeat downloads of apps that just cease working, or crash and have their icons disappear thus prompting a re-download?
- Nenb, on 09/15/2008, -0/+0You mean an app where all you have to do is click the Home button twice and you switch app to... Let us say, the iPod? ;-)
- HolyChimp, on 09/15/2008, -2/+2You aren't cool because you can search for 'IPA' on the pirate bay.
- vallver, on 09/15/2008, -1/+0Leave Razr aloooooooooooooonneeeeeeeeeeee
leave it alooooneeeeeeee - Gayko, on 09/15/2008, -1/+0fucck
- kishosingh, on 09/15/2008, -3/+1Yes, and new iPhone OS 2.1 features http://popularityofiphone.blogspot.com/2008/09/iph ... make it more updated.
- vinnyvenus, on 09/15/2008, -3/+1That's just because there are a lot of free apps.
- nads, on 09/15/2008, -5/+3(I've said something nonsensical and I have now edited it out)
- SnapDragon86, on 09/15/2008, -4/+1its because you cant pirate iphone apps
yet - kellan6, on 09/15/2008, -6/+2not only that but alot of people download there music illegally, and you cant do that with apps.
- BrettFromTibet, on 09/15/2008, -6/+2It sucks that everything is locked into the iTunes store.. and using the phone to its full potential requires hacking it.
- inactive, on 09/15/2008, -5/+1Explain how this would be great. Why would you care?
- Tracknod, on 09/15/2008, -6/+1Oh how naive you are..... Not to rain on your parade, But by last count, I saw over 700 cracked apps ;) Damn... I've said to much already.
