- JaredXM, on 01/02/2009, -3/+92Let's hope they can jailbreak the iPod touch 2G now.
- BugsSport, on 01/02/2009, -8/+87Alright I don't like power users either but there's one of these comments on every story now.
- buckygrad, on 01/02/2009, -1/+74Can it unlock me from my 2-year commitment to AT&T?
- Tddupre, on 01/02/2009, -8/+55Top Digg Story For Tomorrow:
BREAKING: Apple Announces iPhone Firmware Update!!!
engadget.com - The new 2.3 firmware should be out by Monday, "Screw You, You Can't Use Anything But AT&T", said Steve Jobs. - battletops, on 01/02/2009, -1/+47How long until Apple releases an update to try and disable this?
- IphtashuFitz, on 01/02/2009, -1/+26Unfortunately it's not working for lots of people:
http://gizmodo.com/5121902/iphone-3g-unlock-here-d ... - jake1337, on 01/02/2009, -3/+25It's the jesus phone. sacrifices must be made...

- Charlie1er, on 01/02/2009, -1/+18I think Engaget is a tec fan site, but most of tecno geek want to know what Steve has on his sleeves. There's only like one of 15 articles that are apple-related but they are the most viewed.
(Sry for my poor english, I'm from Canada, Québec, et ici on parle français!) - DuMbGuM, on 01/02/2009, -1/+17Buried because you've forgotten about places outside the US where it's of use.
- emt1451, on 01/02/2009, -0/+15If everyone wants one then it shouldn't be too hard to get rid of yours.
- weirdlookinguy, on 01/02/2009, -4/+17Humorous fake quote fail.
- JaredXM, on 01/02/2009, -0/+13I read it's because the iPod touch 2G has a different processor than the 1G.
- BabyWookie, on 01/02/2009, -1/+14Unlock != jaibreak. They are two totally different things.
- Alfarin, on 01/02/2009, -2/+13'Average digg user' does submit the source, and did it before this guy:
http://digg.com/apple/Don_t_eat_yellowsn0w_iPhone_ ...
But, apparently, no one cares. - inactive, on 01/02/2009, -0/+10ironic != coincidence
- RedS0x, on 01/02/2009, -0/+9How is that ironic?
- masonentingh, on 01/02/2009, -0/+9I know. You would figure the iPod would have been easier to jailbreak than the phone, but the iPhone probably has a higher demand.
- McMaster88, on 01/02/2009, -6/+14LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
KEKEKEKEKEKE yu makez funey joks jajajajjajaj
But seriously, eat all the dicks. - inactive, on 01/02/2009, -2/+10That's how change happens. A little discomfort now might make things a whole lot better...
- ispshadow, on 01/02/2009, -0/+7Uhm, what "legal trouble"?
- inputname, on 01/02/2009, -0/+7Sorry to tell you but they are not trying very hard to jailbreak the iTouch 2G because it's not a phone and only one of the dev team members has it.
- McMaster88, on 01/02/2009, -1/+8a little over 9000 seconds.
- surferjoemaui, on 01/02/2009, -0/+7Ain't 'nuttin but a 'G' thang.
- Digglet69, on 01/02/2009, -1/+7LOGIC FAIL!
- kashk5, on 01/02/2009, -0/+62.3?
- bengringo, on 01/02/2009, -0/+6Some people have bad reception through at&t where they live. Some people have bad credit and cant get a plan and go pre-pay. T-Mobile has an unlimited data plan with flex pay. At&t offers no such plan with out a contract and offers no prepaid with the iphone 3g. Some people who like to travel choose to buy prepaid sims from the country there in because the service is cheaper. A lot of countries do not have a place where you can buy an iphone 3g and this allows them to purchase one now and use it there.
- coredump0x01, on 01/02/2009, -1/+7just in time for me to terminate my AT&T contract.
- RobotBanana, on 01/02/2009, -0/+6Probably some sort of multi-national conspiracy or something.
That, or "G" stands for "generation." :P - Kanten, on 01/02/2009, -0/+6It's all about the headline. It need to be simple and to the point. The one above is not an example of such.
- Four20, on 01/02/2009, -4/+10shows that the 'average digg user' doesn't submit the source
- Canuck, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5People may want the 3G for the GPS. This will also be helpful for those who travel between US and Canada and allow them to get a Pay as you Go card and avoid the international roaming charges.
- aristotle0dude, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5T-mobile in the US use frequencies that are not compatible with the iPhone for their 3G network. So you can use an unlocked iPhone only in 2G mode on their network but not in 3G mode IIRC.
- snupples, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5I think he knows that. He said "for North Americans".
(I guess you could say they aren't the only countries in North America though ;-) - ironhide, on 01/02/2009, -1/+6Alanis?
- Canuck, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4But it does help those in Canada who have an iPhone with Rogers when they travel to the US. This means that we can simply buy a pay as you go card from a US provider and not have to pay the outrageous prices for international roaming.
- sdphost, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4From what I've read it works for those with 2.2.
- aristotle0dude, on 01/02/2009, -4/+8What's the point for North Americans? In Canada, there are only two GSM carriers both of which carry the iPhone 3G and AT&T is the only GSM carrier in the US to offer 3G GSM service compatible with the iPhone. I suppose Americans could use T-Mobile in 2G mode but why bother getting a new 3G iPhone then?
- bengringo, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4Actually you have to update to 2.28.00 base band to even run it.
- monkeyrun, on 01/02/2009, -1/+5Don't you have to jailbreak in order to unlock?
- jake1337, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4An irony would be if you just bought another phone because there wasn't a way to unlock the 3g yet.
- MixMasterK, on 01/02/2009, -1/+5rtfa.
- HolyChimp, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3Read somewhere they aren't going to work on it because most only want it to pirate AppStore apps, and they don't want to support that kind of stuff.
Not sure where I read that, and can't fnd anything on their blog about it, so don't burn me at the stake f it turns out to be incorrect.
Just had a look and all I could find was this
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/search/ipod+touch
"Currently we are not investigating the iPod touch 2G. Other people outside the Dev-Team are looking into this, but we are not at the moment." - ted510, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3Same for Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Italy, Australia, the list goes on and on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937 . No "authorized" unlocking by AT&T though! Greedy bastards!
- sdphost, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3I don't need to unlock for another three months or so but I'm happy I will be able to. It should be out of Beta by then as well.
- inactive, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3In canada, we have the choice of rogers or fido.
it's like being raped by a huge inmate, or his bitch.
either way you are being raped. you get one unlocked from a different provider so you are not raped for a full 3 years by rogers. - kyle212, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3Chronic Devs working on it
http://chronic-dev.org/blog/ - schoate09, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3Yes, you can. The towers are the same as AT&T here in America. Unlocking it allows it to work, it's been done.
- duccodude, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3if you have trouble with yellowsn0w,
run yellowsn0w -r -p in the iPhone's terminal. Then turn Airplane mode on and the off and wait. Then it should work. -
