- cubbiesx, on 10/06/2008, -16/+191Let's be honest, a company coming in out of the blue and introducing a mobile phone that becomes the 2nd best seller within 16 months is impressive.
- Hanny26, on 10/06/2008, -12/+117I have a 3G and I absolutely love it.
- loopis, on 10/06/2008, -2/+58I've always been a Microsoft guy, but damn I am so glad the wife made us get these phones, the UI is remarkable and the 3G is better then I thought it was going to be. Only downside I see is the keyboard and my sausage finger, but autocorrect helps.
- tnoy, on 10/06/2008, -1/+47The RAZR is free.
That is all you need to know. - ncc74656m, on 10/06/2008, -3/+34Oh my god. It's started. The inverse-troll!
- Mistlefoot, on 10/06/2008, -5/+34No matter how you look at it this is certainly a good sign for Apple, but you must remember that this is referring to models only. Motorola, Nokia and most other manufacturers have numerous models to choose from. Apple - pretty much one.
- gaucho4, on 10/06/2008, -4/+31Does anyone actually like their RAZR? I only have one because it was about the only replacement phone I could afford at the time that would work with iSync through T-Mobile.
- johnomaz, on 10/06/2008, -6/+32The Razr has the number 1 spot because its given away now. Try selling it for $200 and see how many people buy it compared to the iPhone. I'll get the iPhone 4g. I'm still happy with my first gen iPhone. 20kbps download from edge is still pretty decent IMO. Who really needs 3G speeds to get weather updates or e-mail. I rarely if ever go to bandwidth intensive sites when I'm at work or just 'out and about'. That doesn't mean that everyone else is like me, but seriously, its fast enough.
- Zaxcomp, on 10/06/2008, -0/+26It means they have never made a phone before. Are you daft?
- diggmaddy, on 10/06/2008, -1/+26That just proves the complete and utter lack of competence by the existing mobile phone makers to show any innovation whatsoever and the cheer of consumers who wanted to see some of that. Good for Apple to change the game so radically.
- zwendkos, on 10/06/2008, -6/+28Honestly, I'm surprised it's not #1.
- svensksvamp, on 10/06/2008, -11/+30If you haven't tried it yet, you've really missed something!
- cubbiesx, on 10/06/2008, -0/+16Of course they marketed the thing. I mean they took on Motorola, Nokia, LG, Samsung etc. head on at their game and suceeded. Let's see those companies turn out the second best selling laptop by the end of 2009.
- Me1000, on 10/06/2008, -1/+15Actually 3G is really nice on my iPhone...
- s0ny, on 10/06/2008, -1/+15that THE B..B..B...BIRD IS THE WORD?
- cmf2, on 10/06/2008, -1/+14Read the article.
- Senturion, on 10/06/2008, -10/+21Blind love or hate for a particular brand of consumer product has to be the dumbest side-effect of our consumer-focused culture.
- blackinthmiddle, on 10/06/2008, -0/+11"...within 16 months is impressive"
He's including the first gen iPhone in his timeline, obviously! And what does the iPod have to do with the iPhone? - shorterthanrich, on 10/06/2008, -4/+14Good job providing any argument what so ever for why they're lame or why you dislike apple products.
The only apple product I own is an ipod, btw.
The iphone is revolutionary and far better than any miserable smartphone I've used previous to it. It's not perfect of course, but it is functionally and aesthetically superior to arguably most other phones. - drakethegreat, on 10/06/2008, -7/+17Amazing that RAZR is still so popular. Did they upgrade the feature set? How much internal memory does it have and what kind of flash does it take? I'm just curious but obviously its hard to Apple to make inroads on the RAZR because it appeals to a market that doesn't want to spend a small fortune on a phone that will most likely be replaced by a Steve Jobs keynote in 3 months.
- Raptor007, on 10/06/2008, -2/+12If only the iPhone weren't locked to a specific carrier, they'd get #1 spot easily.
- helloyamadotcom, on 10/06/2008, -1/+10No, In fact, It's not on Verizon...which as you described, is indeed the ***** of cellular companies.
- swimtwobirds, on 10/06/2008, -0/+8no we won't
- Mizzike, on 10/06/2008, -0/+7It's the economy, stupid.
- ElSnuggles, on 10/06/2008, -3/+10You're getting buried for being off subject, border line rude, and well...silly.
Regardless of its future prospects, the success of the iPhone is tremendous. - unloud, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6ProTip: hold down A and select the one you want.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/connected/graphics/2008 ... - supersteve, on 10/06/2008, -0/+6wow how does this person ever know how to use a computer?
- wackattack, on 10/06/2008, -1/+7But why do other companies need so much different phones? Maybe because they can't get it right and present the perfect phone?
- Raptor007, on 10/06/2008, -0/+5The RAZR is also available on every carrier our there, both GSM and CDMA.
- JohnnyDIGGme, on 10/07/2008, -1/+5What does any of that have to do with this story? True, the Storm might have some cool features WHEN it comes out, but that is hardly relavant to this article.
- JohnnyDIGGme, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4Umm, I think that's what "For The Win" means.
(I didn't Digg ya down either, just sayin) - nesagwa, on 10/06/2008, -5/+9You know that most people dont want a PDA phone built for business right?
Thats why this thing sells. - kimbja98, on 10/06/2008, -0/+4Try surfing any modern website (hell, digg can be up to 1MB sometimes) and you'll realise why HSDPA is the way forward. Usually 0.5-2Mbit up to a theoretical 7 makes surfing on your phone almost as good as sitting at home. 20kbps is by far not fast enough...even for email with any attachments.
- Radan, on 10/06/2008, -0/+4Motorola is kind of an interesting company. In Europe, they pretty much doesn't exist. The last time I saw a Motorola phone was sometime in the nineties. In the U.S however, they have the number one best selling phone on the market.
- shank2001, on 10/06/2008, -5/+9The iPhone happens to be the best made, and most useful PDA/Phone/iPod ever made. I have owned a lot of smartphones over the years, and the iPhone is the first one that is actually useful. It sounds more like blind hatred in your post to me.
- mrBitch, on 10/07/2008, -0/+4Which makes this even MORE impressive.
- HolyChimp, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3Depends on the site. The iPhone doesn't have the processor to deal with the modern obsession with pretty expanding javascript on everything. Hell, a Digg article with a lot of comments slows down my laptop with a dual core processor.
Sites like Digg need to look at what they're using javascript for and whether it's worth crashing browsers and unresponsive machines. - Radan, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3The autocorrection feature is near rubbish in other parts in the world though. Since the keyboard doesn't have our Swedish letters (Å, Ä, Ö) I have to simply press 'a' and hope that it chooses the correct letter. Writting Hello (Hallå) is always as fun since it just randomly chooses between writing "Hallå", "Hålla" and "Hälla".
- allothersnsused, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3Believe it or not, some people just want a phone to call someone. The razr is thin, it fits in your pocket, and like it says above, it's free.
- badtz, on 10/07/2008, -2/+5I've had every phone from all the major players and the iPhone is BY FAR the best phone I've ever used! There's not even a close second place. The flexibility by having the keyboard on-screen is very underestimated.... I actually PREFER the on-screen keyboard over a hard keyboard... I can type much faster than I ever did on the blackberry/treo. Having to hit precisely on those small tactile keys are not fun, especially compared to just "generally" hitting in the right spot on the iPhone and have the auto-correct fix the spelling, which is does perfectly well nearly 100% of the time... and for the few errors it makes, it's super easy to go back and fix using the little finger magnifier (something that would be very hard to do on a blackberry/treo).
- tech42er, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3Verizon also has EVDO Rev A. And AT&T's HSDPA is actually comparable. It's just that their 3G coverage sucks (at least in the NYC metro area it does).
- Radan, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3Well, that is one of the main reasons why we haven't seen real web browsers in mobile phones until now. Handling pages with graphics and scripts, and not to forget, while everything is being resized in real time, does take up a lot of processing power.
This is also, at least according to the spokesman from Ericsson who came to our University, one of reasons why we haven't seen the 100 Mbit/s networks that they are working on in our phones yet. - BrendanSheehan, on 10/06/2008, -2/+5So you don't like it and you have one? Guess it apparent why it's number one then.
- MacParrot, on 10/07/2008, -0/+3His Mom had to show him how.
- meyerj88, on 10/06/2008, -5/+8If only their stock price could be just as impressive.
- Senturion, on 10/06/2008, -2/+5LOL! Wrong, I own an iPhone.
Clearly you misread my post, I said "love or hate".
The iPhone is a great product, my point was those that defend the iPhone at all costs and those who bash it at every turn are equally as dumb.
I enjoy my iPhone but it has it's flaws, however those who bash Apple incessantly are clearly just looking for reasons to hate as I have yet to see a perfect product of any kind in the market. - AxsToro, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3I loved my Razr, had it for 4 years before I finally broke it.. Running it over with my car... by accident.
- diggmaddy, on 10/06/2008, -0/+3It's funny how just 3 letters could completely change the diggs a post gets. I completely agreed with your first statement and immediately gave you a thumbs up, but then your second statement killed it. :P. Sorry, had to take it back and bury you.
- soopafly, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2Really? No other reason??
- mstrebe, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2Sausage fingers aren't all bad
