- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -0/+52just because nobody actually read the article,
this test was done by PC world. it says it gets 38 more minutes of battery life then apple said it would. - MadKennyP, on 07/14/2008, -1/+34Get him! He's in the box!!
- yokozuka, on 07/14/2008, -8/+38One excuse less to avoid buying the iPhone.
Damn you testers!
*shakes fists to the sky* - thufir, on 07/14/2008, -7/+30I'll keep this in mind next time I make a 5 hour call.
- pixeldust, on 07/14/2008, -3/+20Color temperature != brightness
- Sairynn, on 07/14/2008, -1/+17Have you people never seen a news headline before? Using a comma instead of the word "and" in a list is quite common for lots of newspapers. I'm not sure why it's necessary on the internet, but the meaning of the title is pretty clear.
- gravis86, on 07/14/2008, -8/+23They said it EXCEEDED Apples own tests, you tard. This is an independent study. Learn how to read.
- AxsToro, on 07/14/2008, -9/+22That Instinct seems really good also...
.. Oh god... I can hear the iPhone fan boys coming already :[
-hides in a box- - iansanderson, on 07/14/2008, -2/+12where's the blackberry in that chart?
- Antimatter85, on 07/14/2008, -0/+10Anandtech did some testing with data (web browsing) and found that the phone has approximately 3 hours of battery life when surfing over 3G. Hardly a comprehensive test, but it shows you the tradeoff of higher data speeds in portable devices.
http://www.anandtech.com/gadgets/showdoc.aspx?i=33 ... - incandescent, on 07/14/2008, -3/+13This is garbage. I fully charged my iPhone 3G about 10pm last night. 23 hours later it's now at about 30% charge having made NO phone calls at all, having not browsed the web at all and having sent approx 5 texts and as many emails. The battery life on this thing is atrocious.
- rssolo23, on 07/14/2008, -0/+9The Instinct comes with an extra battery though... Don't get me wrong though, I love the iPhone!
- nevetssav, on 07/14/2008, -2/+11Posting in the main thread so when the other one gets dugg down, people don't spam post "omg, it's an apple test!"
In the title, "Beats the Competition, Apple's Own Tests" means "Beats the Competition [*AND*] Apple's Own Tests," and the article itself says "PC World says."
It is a test from PC World, not apple. - bxblox, on 07/14/2008, -0/+9I dont think I ever need and excuse to not buy something.
- josereyes0, on 07/14/2008, -2/+11!
- superkendall, on 07/14/2008, -2/+11!
- ozroy, on 07/14/2008, -9/+16*edit*
Never mind. I misread the article. Makes it sound like this is Apple's benchmark. It's not. PC World did a benchmark and they show results better than what Apple benchmarked.
Would also like to see results for everything else, like web etc. - X86BSD, on 07/14/2008, -3/+10Wow just like steve said it would when the Rev A iPhone came out. "3G would have killed battery life" -SJ.
"I WANT 3G!!! GIVE US 3G STEVE!!! Quit stalling!!" -Idiots.
"ZOMG 3G iPhone has worse battery life!!!" -Idiots.
"I told you so." -SJ - nevetssav, on 07/14/2008, -0/+7"Beats the Competition, Apple's Own Tests"
means "Beats the Competition [*AND*] Apple's Own Tests"
The article itself says "PC World says."
It is a test from PC World, not apple. - snugsoho, on 07/14/2008, -2/+9Where are the smartphones from Nokia, SE and RM in that chart?
- SPECOPS, on 07/14/2008, -0/+6Seriously, take it back for an exchange (sync with itunes first and do a backup). Mine is lasting a lot longer than I expected - but I am in a constant wifi or 3g area (wifi uses less of the battery).
- Daniel591992, on 07/14/2008, -0/+6Good for calling AT&T if they mess up your bill. You might just be able to fix it before the battery dies.
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -4/+10That's a feature! Trust apple on this one.
- incandescent, on 07/14/2008, -2/+8Wasn't the case with my old Sony-Ericsson nor is it the case with my work Nokia. If Apple expect me to continually switch (manually) between 3G, wifi and GPRS then why do I have do go into an obscure part of the settings screen to do it? Is that Apple's much vaunted usability?
- imnojezus, on 07/14/2008, -0/+6Yeah, something's killing your battery. I've been getting 8 to 12 hours out of mine with fairly substantial use: phone calls, lots of web use, text messages, and playing far too much with the GPS. Take it in to an Apple store and see what's up.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 07/14/2008, -0/+5@incandescent
I totally agree. It is such ***** that you can't just tap the 3G logo on top to easily switch to EDGE or WiFi. Why I have to navigate to like 4 menus to turn it off is beyond me, especially when Apple lists turning off 3G to save battery as a "tip." - IphtashuFitz, on 07/14/2008, -4/+9Try RTFA before making such statements. It's obvious you didn't. Even though the article submitted was from Gizmodo the tests were actually run by PC World.
- superkendall, on 07/14/2008, -0/+5Are you using push email with your Nokia vs. the iPhone? More use of the network = shorter battery life.
- superkendall, on 07/14/2008, -1/+6Turn off 3G when you're not using it for data, if you want to greatly increase battery life. True of any 3G phone.
- MicHalpin, on 07/14/2008, -1/+6so no blackberry in the test, I'm not surprised.
- krische, on 07/14/2008, -2/+6The Instinct also includes a second battery. So theoretically, carrying the other on you gives you 10 hours.
.....
Hey, the other guy is in the box, GET HIM! - bjornski, on 07/14/2008, -2/+6So unsubscribe from "technology > Apple" then.
Yeah, there are a bunch. And yeah, it can be excessive at times.
But I CHOSE to read them, just as you can choose not to.
Give it an hour. The front page will be different. - fuzzmeister, on 07/14/2008, -0/+4It's worse if you are using 3G, better if you are on EDGE.
- DooM, on 07/14/2008, -1/+5You got a bum iPhone - I'm doing audio/calls/texts/web and even GPS all friggin' day and it's at least as good as the previous model for me.
Are you sending 30,000 word text messages or something? :) - DooM, on 07/14/2008, -3/+7The Instinct is close - I wouldn't buy one probably ever but I wouldn't even CONSIDER it until it got wi-fi (wtf?), more storage (just to get to 8gb is an upgrade), the web browser sucks, and seriously? A stylus? Why?
- jrsvanquish, on 07/14/2008, -0/+4I really want to know how the battery life of the 3G phone compares to the first version of the iPhone. I have never really been happy with my first gen iPhone battery life.
- ozroy, on 07/14/2008, -1/+4Pretty much. Afterall, does anyone really read all of the 50 iPhone articles that come out a day?
- sruffelman, on 07/14/2008, -2/+5Apple also says the yellow screens are intentional. It's not a bug... it's a feature!
- jdames1980, on 07/14/2008, -2/+53D games do suck the battery dry, otherwise battery life is fine.
- pintomp3, on 07/14/2008, -1/+4these are independent tests. the title was badly worded. they are saying it beats apple's own tests.
- IphtashuFitz, on 07/14/2008, -1/+4Try RTFA. These were independent tests that beat Apple's own tests. Instead of that comma in the title substitute "and".
- inactive, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3I've been using a battery sleeve from Mophie for my first Gen iPhone. It gives me 8 extra hours of talk time, and up to 250 hours of standby time, and it's a lot more convenience than a regular battery because all I have to do is slip it on.
http://www.mophie.com/collections/batteries
I always show this link to Apple Haters and they pretend they can't see it. Anyway, I can't wait for them to make a version for the 3G iPhone. Rock that, haters. - incandescent, on 07/14/2008, -3/+6Battery life on the 3G iPhone is worse. Much worse.
- cmgarcia, on 07/14/2008, -0/+3I was hoping for a little better battery life for mine. A charge lasts me about 12 hours of use (little voice, push enabled for exchange sync, every 15 minutes for imap, moderate texting and web throughout the day).
- inactive, on 07/14/2008, -1/+4In other words, you read the article after making a snarky comment based on the title above.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -1/+4And the new, secret, firmware fixes the issue.
http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2008/07/13/iphone- ... - DooM, on 07/14/2008, -1/+4*BIASED
Unless you meant that Apple is the physical embodiment of bias itself... in which case, carry on crazy man. :) - inactive, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3damn, you edited after i replied…
- krische, on 07/14/2008, -1/+3Yeah i dunno why it comes with a stylus, I haven't needed it for anything. Every button is big enough to use with a finger or thumb.
- incandescent, on 07/14/2008, -1/+3I wish!
