Man, my list of Mirth is getting long. - defcobra08, on 06/08/2009, -5/+61i cant agree with you more....a bit ironic that they mocked Microsoft over innovation
- shahruz84, on 06/08/2009, -12/+55I'll probably be buried for this, but this is the iPhone just trying to catch up to Android features-wise. I'm not saying that the iPhone is lesser than Android phones (the App Store is still the best of its kind), but Voice Control, Compass, 3 megapixel camera have already been done.
Just making an observation not too many would make. Also, if you're going to bury this, please at least reply with an explanation. Otherwise I'm just going to assume it's Apple fanboys burying stuff saying anything slightly negative. - rsingh87, on 06/08/2009, -7/+46looks the exact same as the 3G. but internally much faster and can support 7.2mbit network. sweet

welcome to 2009 - zslice, on 06/08/2009, -1/+36If I can please get you to stop licking your iphones for one second and draw your attention to an Apple announcement...
One of the new features is "Arsenic-free glass" - piemcgee, on 06/08/2009, -12/+46No video conferencing :(
- Braindead360, on 06/08/2009, -19/+53More like Complete Failure Guide. Seriously, no MMS or Tethering... Total ***** on AT&T's part.
- Zanrook, on 06/08/2009, -8/+30*yawn* This is the most boring Apple upgrade that I've seen.
I'll be sticking to my older iphone for now. - shahruz84, on 06/08/2009, -6/+26I wish that people burying this would at least give a reason why. This is a perfectly valid statement...
- Invid, on 06/08/2009, -6/+25Can't say I care...I'm not excited about MMS at all. I've had it on almost every handset I've owned before the iPhone and I didn't use it there either. Email is cheaper and more universal across devices.
Some technologies (like mobile videoconferencing) sound better as concepts than as realities. Are you really going to stroll down the street video calling someone? In a mall? In a coffee shop? Bluetooth headsets have nothing on that level of douchebaggery. Very few people would use it, and I'd much rather save money on the hardware, or at least spend it somewhere useful, like on more RAM for example. - mmoaddict, on 06/08/2009, -8/+24Damn.. and I just cleaned my screen..
- muesli, on 06/08/2009, -4/+20Still features the same lame screen resolution... All the other updates are pretty much irrelevant. What do 7.2mbit help me if most providers (esp. AT&T) can't even deliver GPRS speed.
- berlin1525, on 06/08/2009, -7/+22Nice summary, but the update makes me yawn.
- scootinger, on 06/08/2009, -35/+50I don't care...it's still a locked-down piece of *****. I'd be excited if Apple decided to open up the iPhone platform and not treat its customers like ***** (i.e. arbitrarily remove features from software to differentiate hardware products, *intentionally* sabotage jailbroken iPhones, etc.) Until they start respecting their users, Apple won't see another penny from this once-loyal user.

I had a Dell Axim x50v in '04 and that thing struggled to get 5 hours with an extended battery. No cellular radio, no GPS, bluetooth off etc. Mobile devices have a lot more utility now, and get better battery life. Try again. - vitriolix, on 06/08/2009, -1/+15Haven't seen any real world shots from the new 3G S yet obviously, but the Android camera absolutely smokes the 1st gen and 3G iPhone camera. We we just comparing shots the other day at a party.
- ultrafez, on 06/08/2009, -2/+15My girth is also getting long.
Wait, what? - McPOW, on 06/08/2009, -0/+13But the 3G S comes with *magic screen coating* !
- FujoGusto, on 06/08/2009, -8/+20A little Flash support would be nice.
- petard, on 06/08/2009, -0/+12No existing customers are in a contract for taking a subsidy on their phone and are therefore not eligible for a discount on another phone until their contract is up. It works the exact same way with any other AT&T phone. You can't walk into the AT&T store and get the 2-year price if you are already in a contract.
- GIScope, on 06/09/2009, -0/+11Honestly, how long must we endure AT&T? I can look over all the ripoff pricing and the fees and their retarded costumer service, but what really kills me is knowing that so many new features and breakthrough could have made it to the iPhone but probably didn't because we have a retarded phone carrier with a GM like business plan. I wish monopoly and antitrust laws were applied on that dinosaur company.
- itsbob, on 06/08/2009, -2/+13A Free tube of lube for the upgrade price for existing 3G users
And shouldn't this be titled "iPhone 3GS 2009 Complete Feature Guide"? - shahruz84, on 06/08/2009, -1/+12If that is the only part I got right then the following statements are all untrue according to you:
"I'm not saying that the iPhone is lesser than Android phones"
"the App Store is still the best of its kind"
Self-induced fanboy FAIL. - shahruz84, on 06/08/2009, -1/+12@cheezy321 Have you seen side by side shots? And there's a reason Android phones can do barcode scanning and iPhone's can't (and that iPhone barcode scanning app that just came out fails 95% of the time because of low image quality).
- macslut, on 06/08/2009, -4/+15Feature #1, as missed by Gizmodo...it has an S in its name.
- barnis, on 06/08/2009, -17/+27who cares...
- Antialias, on 06/08/2009, -0/+10Glass doesn't necessarily have arsenic in it when finished but it's generally used in manufacturing. They are saying they use a process in which no arsenic is used to manufacture the glass.
- Tddupre, on 06/08/2009, -2/+12It might not have everything I wanted, but the update is fine. The part that pisses me off is that they are going to charge the existing iPhone customers $200 more to upgrade that is just a bad move
- Gareth321, on 06/09/2009, -0/+10Can we add PETA to that list? Those guys are dicks.
- AndersenWatcher, on 06/08/2009, -1/+10Since I'm a current iPhone user, the new iPhone will cost me $699.00 including the loyalty fine.
- BurgerDST, on 06/09/2009, -1/+9Do I really have to wait until June 17 to get my 3.0 os? Today was a disappointment.
- USER1236, on 06/09/2009, -0/+8 @eluusive The 2G iphone was not subsidized therefore almost everyone was originally able to upgrade to the 3G for the subsidized price.
- factsahoy, on 06/09/2009, -0/+8Oh, give us a break and either think for yourself or stop playing dumb. You know damn well that jailbreaking and unlocking are in no way a violation of IP rights. In fact, you should be decrying Apple and AT&T's policies as a violation of YOUR rights under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act states, in part, in Title 15, United States Code, Section 2302, subdivision (c):
No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade, or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection may be waived by the [Federal Trade] Commission...
And that waiver must be requested and meet numerous requirements, which no one has shown that Apple has done here. So the "this will void your warranty" ***** needs to stop. - anthropodeus, on 06/08/2009, -1/+9because the confusion is already avoided by changing the name to iPhone 3GS.

...i think I hit everyone that time... - Nothlit, on 06/09/2009, -0/+8The phone supports those features. AT&T, however, is apparently not going to support either of them right away.
- Nothlit, on 06/09/2009, -0/+7So don't. If you don't qualify for upgrade pricing now, just wait until you do. It won't kill you. I promise.
- Invid, on 06/09/2009, -3/+10If you have a magic tech wand you should go to Apple or Palm and start waving it Mr. Potter. Otherwise, there's been a steady tech progression over the past few years, and the 9 hours of usage today is a lot more demanding than the 9 hours of usage from 5 years ago. Not that there weren't even any lesser devices from that era that could manage it at all.
To compare the choppy, pixelated, and frankly ***** 3gp videos from phones circa 2004 to what is possible today is totally disingenuous *****.
I know it's cool to hate on all things Apple, I only ask that you point me in the direction of a another device with equal battery life and better features. I don't see any, not even the rather impressive (especially for ver. 1.0) Palm Pre. - kspanks04, on 06/09/2009, -0/+7You could just make a t-shirt that says "I'm holding a 3GS iPhone, be my friend".
- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -4/+11That camera looks sweet. Hopefully it will work like those shots show.
- gozroth, on 06/08/2009, -2/+9Why didn't they just call it the "iPhone Video" and just avoid any confusion?
- Jrr6415sun, on 06/09/2009, -0/+7cheaper to cancel your contract and buy the new one at $299 than pay $699
- JohnnyDIGGme, on 06/08/2009, -0/+6 WTF? You buy the phone, sign a contract with AT&T, then a couple months later they'll tell you how much the MMS and tethering fees will be?
That's *****. - IDBash, on 06/09/2009, -1/+7Dude... be honest he owned you just now... lols.. Apple level intelligence is at work once again...
