- gcnaddict, on 06/08/2009, -140/+656This whole conference was crap. All Apple did was bash Windows, introduce a service pack for Leopard priced at 29USD, and introduce a phone which, well, is only evolutionary, and tell everyone in the US that tethering via AT&T isn't an option for god-knows-what-reason.
They also took out an ExpressCard slot from their MacBook Pros, worsened the battery situation on said laptops, and generally just ripped everyone off. What a waste of time.
What was with the Windows-bashing? They didn't even give a reason. All they said was that it's built on top of Vista... well, duh? Snow Leopard is built on top of Leopard. That's supposed to mean something? Apple is spending a good amount of effort trying to become the biggest troll on the planet... for what? What's the benefit? Too many of my friends were turned off by the unnecessary Windows-bashing; I guess if Apple was trying to win over the enterprise crowd, they did a good job of alienating them right from the start. - Wailord, on 06/08/2009, -134/+605Disappointing.
- HA5TY, on 06/08/2009, -23/+337at&t ruined my day.
- cjung89, on 06/08/2009, -43/+339I'll probably get one anyway. I hate myself.
- RandyDisher, on 06/08/2009, -24/+292Yeh, they seemed to undermine themselves at that point. They criticised Windows7 for being built upon Vista, and then said Snow leopard was built upon leopard
- nicepants, on 06/08/2009, -13/+260I like how they bashed windows, then announced Exchange support.
- scoot87, on 06/08/2009, -29/+232iPhone 3GS(ame)
- joshcollie, on 06/08/2009, -26/+218Some nice new features but I would've really liked a new design if I'm honest.
- chickenloco, on 06/08/2009, -28/+215To be honest, I'm rather disappointed -
Identical exterior design..
No OLED Screen..
No tethering with AT&T...
And, what about upgrades for those who purchased the iPhone 3G? - vtnerd, on 06/08/2009, -19/+199New carrier. AT&T is garbage.
- pisseddog, on 06/08/2009, -35/+193Aside from the Video this was a total dissapointment. No Front camera? No 4G support?
EDIT: Also, ***** AT&T. - rhicks, on 06/08/2009, -9/+141For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB).
Total BS! Why no love for existing customers to upgrade? AT&T is trash. - dshPls, on 06/08/2009, -15/+130Gotta admit the $99 pricetag for the iPhone 3G is pretty nice though.
- gcnaddict, on 06/08/2009, -31/+139Snow Leopard is a service pack. It should've been free.
- hrvat420, on 06/08/2009, -11/+101meh
- Sfenton, on 06/08/2009, -11/+98Cults can do that to you.
- AndrewLeon, on 06/08/2009, -10/+85How very underwhelming
- ShAuNiEcHuLo, on 06/08/2009, -14/+87Anyone else hoping for a break on upgrade costs from an iPhone 3G??
- HypocriteDigg, on 06/08/2009, -13/+84@Wailord: Well it's one of those things. I think it's pretty hard to update a design that is a solid curved back and flat glass front.
I still own an original iPhone and can't wait to get the 3GS (even though it means a higher monthly AT&T fee).
I would have liked a front camera and physical shutter release button, but I'm definitely not disappointed. - coldeh, on 06/08/2009, -5/+73Ive waited for about 3 months for this day, and now that its over. I think ill keep my 3G. What a bland update.
- animenick65, on 06/08/2009, -23/+89Long ass presentation. The magic behind the Snow Leopard upgrade is in the underlying code and features it seems. An odd update for OSX for sure.
MMS and Video on the iPhone. Why are people "ooing" and "aahing" over this? Phones have had both for some time. Should we be applauding them for bringing the iPhone to where it should have been from the start? Same thing with the 3.0 OS. This is what the software should have been years ago. While there are some nice new features, I can't help but think Apple is purposefully leaving out features as they go only to add them later while they are laughing all the way to the bank. Standard Apple procedure I guess. - ryanhayn, on 06/08/2009, -2/+67I have a 3G and I'm midway through my contract, so in order for me to upgrade I'd have to pay $400-$500. No ***** way. I'll just wait for the 4th gen iPhone.
- HypocriteDigg, on 06/08/2009, -23/+81So please tell me. What did the iPhone 3GS need for you to not be disappointed?
- TheCash, on 06/08/2009, -1/+58MMS coming in late summer, no tethering, and a $700 dollar upgrade fee for existing iPhone 3G customers? Well ***** you too AT&T. I didn't want to stand in line all night a second time anyway. I hope you're paying your retail employees extra for emotional duress over the next few weeks, because they are going to get a lot of ***** heaped on them from some really unhappy customers.
- vtnerd, on 06/08/2009, -12/+66iPhone still tied to AT&T - quite possibly the worst wireless carrier in the US (maybe Sprint sucks worse?) - so they're still not getting my business.
- Iwantawii, on 06/08/2009, -0/+49Here's your break:
(From: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_iphone/ ...
"(2) Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract, sold separately to qualified customers; credit check required; must be 18 or older. For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB). Visit www.wireless.att.com for eligibility information." - gmprunner, on 06/08/2009, -4/+53Am I the only one who couldn't care less about a front-facing camera?
- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -2/+49Are you honest?
- Amirshareh, on 06/08/2009, -2/+47The ability to open the underworld and unleash an army of super mutant ants that will do your taxes and make an infinite amount of comedic shorts about monkeys that pick oranges from trees in Portugal..
Yh that sounds about right :D:D - motionblur, on 06/08/2009, -6/+48These comments remind me of Louis CK's "Everything is Amazing Yet Nobody is Happy" rant on Conan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jETv3NURwLc
- anenokoji, on 06/08/2009, -2/+40This feature is awesome!!!!
Find My iPhone tracks down your phone using MobileMe from any browser. It locates the phone on a map, and also allows you to remote wipe the device, or even play a sound on the phone for locating it around the house -- even when it's on vibrate. - AWBoy666, on 06/08/2009, -17/+54Booooorrrrrring. A faster processor? Wow....that's interesting and will make people switch to your phone. Video and voice control? You mean features my phones had 5 years ago?
The iPhone was successful due to its revolutionary aspects and UI. Neither of those things were added or changed today, so why would anyone change their decision?
My Bold is falling to pieces after a year of use and I waited until today to see if I'd want a new iPhone. Now I'm mad that I waited. - bsonline, on 06/08/2009, -4/+41I'm hoping with the "faster speed", they stuck in a bit more ram. I'm SICK of apps crashing.
- schmidt349, on 06/08/2009, -3/+40The 3GS does support the new 7.2Mbps 3G standard. Seriously, is that not fast enough for you?
- ProjectGSX, on 06/08/2009, -0/+35meh.
I was considering an upgrade, but the only real feature I care about is the nicer camera.. and 3mp isnt enough to drop $300 on. *Im not eligable to upgrade*
And its really lame that ATT wont have tethering and needs time to get MMS ready.. seriously, what the hell is up with that? - smithc2005, on 06/08/2009, -19/+54The 3 megapixel camera is pretty nice, and the tap-to-focus feature is neat. The video is the big player here. I can see people updating for that
- AnthonyC, on 06/08/2009, -6/+41Sprint may have their issues but their network is much better than AT&T
- teamr, on 06/08/2009, -6/+38@chrysobyn
Vista wasnt well received but grew into a very solid OS. Windows 7 builds upon that and is probably the best and most important release from microsoft since Win95 - krwlngindark, on 06/08/2009, -1/+31Please be honest.
- cgomez, on 06/08/2009, -0/+29Seeing as how at&t won't offer 4G for a few years, how would LTE-capable radios be sensible?
- Helloween2008, on 06/08/2009, -5/+34Apple: Here, drink this kool-aid.
Fanboys: Ok.*dies* - Rapter09, on 06/08/2009, -4/+32Dilithium crystal-powered quantum mechanical processor.
Yep. - CCB0x45, on 06/08/2009, -10/+38I am pretty happy with this announcement...
Lets see the features people wanted:
1) Matte back with glowing logo(would have been cool)
2) FM Radio(This would have been nice, but not a dealbreaker for me)
3) Foward facing camera(I am on the fence about this because I never even video chat on my computer, let alone my phone... but it could have been useful and fun sometimes, typically these days on my phone I dont even like to hold it because I use my bluetooth, let alone hold it in front of my face.)
3) Camera flashes(eh... LED flashes suck balls and dont help anyways, so unless it was a real flash, I could care less.)
What we got:
1) Speed increase(anyone who has used an iphone definitely would like this)
2) Better Camera(the camera was blurry and *****, I like this, actual focus)
4) Voice controls(cool I guess, if they work as well as the google app then ill probably use them a lot when driving)
5)Better OpenGL/ES:
The OpenGL/ES is a big one for me... I think this is great. All the people complaining about that this was dissapointing... and are gonna go run and grab a pre... The pre doesnt even have NATIVE APPS, who cares about mulitasking embedded HTML/Javascript apps which are interpreted, thats basically the equivalent of running multiple browser windows with a special HTML API and running the web pages off the phone... I mean thats retarded. The open GL support has shown me that apple isnt afraid to upgrade their specs and have higher models to allow developers to code games which will either have higher quality settings on the 3Gs, or require the 3GS completely. They have already shown some decent graphics on the old iphone 3g, with a new openGL processor and faster specs, they can accomplish even more, so this means cooler and better games...
I dont see the advantage of the pre or any other phone that doesnt have a native app store with the amount of people using it necessary for good devs to actually put out some cool games and stuff.
Dont tell me Pre's have native apps, they dont, they have interpreted apps running html code off the phone and not off the server... native by definition means not interpretted, actually running compiled code on the phone.
I am curious just to see how much they improved the speed and the graphics on the phone, we could get some cool ass games, and at the usual price point of the iphone, less than 10 dollars, I am happy about that. - MavRevMatt, on 06/08/2009, -1/+28At the base of it all, aren't all OS versions built upon the previous versions? Their argument there was stupid. But, die-hard fanboys will use that quote all the time now...
- SethG911, on 06/08/2009, -0/+27Try 600 dollars if you already own a 3g.
"For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB)." - HypocriteDigg, on 06/08/2009, -10/+36FM radio? Goddamn get with the times boy. Ever heard of Slacker, Pandora, LastFM, Iheartradio?
- gcnaddict, on 06/08/2009, -1/+27We already have people rationalizing the tethering issue in the US?
Why couldn't Apple just smash its exclusivity deal with AT&T and sell the phone unlocked for any provider to allow for some competitive tethering plans? If one carrier screws up, ditch them!
Oh wait, did Apple mess up when drafting the agreement? Don't tell me they didn't anticipate AT&T pulling a fast one. Apple's at fault for sticking to its current agreement and favoring money over its loyal fanbase. - inactive, on 06/08/2009, -4/+30actually its not kool-aid its steve job's semen
- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -1/+26I personally would think that talking to your iPhone would make one look like a jackass :P
"PLAY SONGS THAT SOUND LIKE CHER"
****** did I say that out loud? I'm in PUBLIC* - sensor, on 06/08/2009, -0/+244G is in development still... isn't it?
