iPhone 2.1 Beta 4 Seeded, Removes Push Notification Service

macrumors.com — Apple has seeded iPhone Firmware 2.1 Beta 4 to developers. As usual, Apple describes the content of the update as "bug fixes," however the push notification service which had been present in betas 1-3 has been removed "for further development."

  • jholmes8, on 08/17/2008, -0/+2I'm sure it was only pulled because it needed further development and they wanted to get some fixes out in the release that is nearing completion. This doesn't mean the push notification will not be out in September as promised.

The notification would then start up the app, which would then connect to the service itself, meaning you don't need to get any more notifications through Apple's servers until you close the app again. This is all just because they don't allow background apps, but it's not 100% inefficient :P

    this is a really neat function that could have been implemented much better.... can't say i've been too happy with Apple as of late
