- ghast, on 10/14/2007, -11/+76now I just can't understand the whole fuss over the iphone updates. I mean you update your phone to the firmware which is not sanctioned by the manufacturer. Then an update comes out, I mean maybe, just maybe you should wait and see what the people who hacked your firmware say about it.
What kind bloody retard do you have to be, to go and say oh hey apple released a new update, they also said that it'd probably brick my unlocked phone, what could possibly go wrong. You people are ***** idiots ok. I mean is it so hard to wait that week or two for people who hacked your damn phone to hack the update, and THEN update your phone?
If you ***** could follow this immensly complex syllogism, that if you decide to unlock your phone, maybe you should wait for updates from people who unlocked it, and not from people who openly tell you that their updates will brick it, then we wouldn't have to read a million posts about how much Apple sucks, and how evil they are, and how the world is going to end because you were too ***** stupid to wait a week to update your phone.
just my two cents on the issue. - Gloony, on 10/12/2007, -4/+54Wow - that was fast. Seriously.
If 3d Realms could have hired these iPhone hackers we'd be on DNF 3 by now! - saisumimen, on 10/11/2007, -3/+29Your "get a life, nerds" rant would carry more weight if your name wasn't "databoy". It sounds like the name for a superhero's gay sidekick.
- Jomwilli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Can we put this as a sticky on the front page of Digg for a month or so?
- Proctor, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21Isn't this the company that made all those people pay $100 for something that was free 2 days later?
- troydoogle7, on 10/14/2007, -2/+17how long till the next update fudges it up.
- kris33, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12Well, they have a team of 6 working on an unlock as a full time job. They are also 100% dedicated to unlocking.
- Jomwilli, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12"Well...what an hassle of all of this unlocking *****."
Great sentence there buddy. - sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Looks like it was worth it!
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -0/+9Will previous customers have to pay a fee for the new unlocking software again?

.............................. - inactive, on 10/14/2007, -1/+9Coming tomorrow, the free unlock.
- autoatsakiklis, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9They are just working full time on unlock. I think dev team is more skilled, because they make software/discover things which allows you to install iphonesimfree in the first place.
- ZEROCOOLIV, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8"don't buy yourself a trouble."
That isn't much better! - vagabondgr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11We *are* on DNF 3, you fool.
http://tinyurl.com/2bcd3o - AndrewWiggin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Did you read the article?
"They can apply their unlock thanks to the iPhone Dev Team's 1.1.1 Jailbreak." - Machine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6You want sympathy. On Digg? For people who are not tech savvy? ON DIGG??
(rolls around the floor laughing) - xero9, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I don't think so. They allow you to download v1.6 (anyone can) and I think as long as your IMEI is registered with them you should be good. I could be wrong though
- jjesusfreak01, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You must have missed the fact that about the same amount of locked phones as unlocked ones were bricked, meaning it was the shoddy programming of the update, not the unlock software.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3No. As long as the Safari TIFF vulnerability in 1.1.1 remains unpatched, you can jailbreak and install apps on 1.1.1. Including this one.
- arjung, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3dugg for "syllogism"
- accelleron, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The free version was, if I'm not mistaken, reverse-engineered from the commercial version last time. Apparently, the commercial version won again this time. Can't be more than a day or two before the new free unlock comes out.
/still laughing at the people who updated their unlocked phones as soon as the update hit. - henry86, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2Where did this "jesus" phone reference originate? I prefer not compare my cell phone to a deity.
- MonkeyHugger, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Would you like cheese with that whine?
- dagamer34, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2They abuse the term "bricked", it's more like "software locked" by Apple.
- xero9, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3OR, and here's a crazy thought.. Buy an iPhone, unlock it, and don't ***** update it when v1.1.2 or v1.2.0 comes out. Simple as that.
- skim1420, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I thought "bricked" by definition meant that you can't resuscitate it. Am I right? Why are people saying their iPhones are bricked, then in the next sentence explaining how they restored it using some trick?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+8It was the shoddy programming of the unlock software that caused the 1.1.1 update to brick, not Apple.
http://code.google.com/p/iphone-elite/wiki/iPhoneB ... - postalblowfish7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1something tells me that their deal with AT&T doesn't leave space for apple to "accept it."
- postalblowfish7, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2but engadget is in a unique position to bitch for all retards!
- PathDaemon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The Dev Team has been spending time trying to fix people's b0rked iPhones. IPhoneSIMFree just wants to sell more unlocks. And, really, good for them, but I'm sticking with Dev Team.
- sholt, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2The phone was never re-locked. you just can't activate without a AT&T SIM/account or a jailbreak.
- xGrill, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1they better donate some money to the dev team, cause without them, they would not be able to install thier software
- TechCF, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1AT&T pays Apple 10% of whatever the owners call/text for. 10% of your bill goes to Apple
- blackbrutha, on 10/14/2007, -1/+2Just wait for the Dev Team to release the free unlock. Should be any day now. Dont pay any money to unlock your Jesus Phone. Nuff said.
- digjam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i took your advice and buried you !
- diggmaddy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1one of the rare rants on digg that make perfect sense. Spot on ghast!
- TheFinaleofSeem, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There was a warning in iTunes that popped up before the update was applied. If people ignored that, they're morons.
- gregsmamma, on 10/13/2007, -1/+2if you are tired of apple stories, you're on the wrong site.
- dibby1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1oh don't you dare...
- SpykerSpeed, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3That was more like two dollars.
- postalblowfish7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1ditto ^^
- shadowspawn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Next month the new iPhone update comes out, by the way. This game will indeed be interesting.
- SSUK, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2He meant until Apple comes along and re-locks the phone's carrier, not brick your iPhone.
- LaRue05, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0dugg for using the word syllogism... very nice!!
- Mordieu, on 10/14/2007, -2/+21.1.1 iphones will need to be downgraded to 1.0.2 to be able to install SIMfree app from IPSF for the unlocking process, am I correct? Thanks for your reply.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Sorry, the openmoko sucks. It has potential, but it's far less "there" than the iPhone. And, now that the iPhone is unlocked... You can have it all, baby.
- AndrewWiggin, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3There's a lot of us that aren't waiting on the new unlock so that we can update a bricked phone, but so that we can BUY a new phone and then ensure that we'll be able to use it (since it'll probably be 1.1.1 firmware preinstalled). That's why I've been following the stories.
- dibby1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Agreed.
- Mordieu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0thanks. I guess IPSF is the best way to go and 60 bucks is not that much considering that they were able to update their SIMfree app to work with 1.1.1 iphone relatively quickly...
