- Daniel001, on 10/10/2007, -2/+45Why do we need an upside-down blurry picture of this, when it was already a lot clearer on the main image?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39if you don't stop signing your comments, I'm going to come to your trailer and set it on fire

Hey! It worked. - mlostracco, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21First of all, it's Mac, not MAC; iPod, not iPOD.
- Nightspark, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Because it makes sense? The name of the key is "command" and it's represented in the UI with the command icon, not the apple ( http://folklore.org/StoryView.py?story=Swedish_Campground.txt ). It causes confusion as it is now because some users don't know what the actual name of the key is, so when you say "command+delete moves an item to the trash" they don't know where the command key is.
Or it's fake and Apple still overlooks this problem. - nhinsch, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Dashboard is the Mac's built-in application for running "widgets," small programs that allow you to check the weather, stock prices, exchange rates, etc. The icon for Dashboard is a speedometer with the numbers replaced by icons. Some say that this icon appears on the keyboard in the article.
For more information on Dashboard, watch this short movie:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/theater/dashboard.html - cookiebearo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7don't tell that to the optimus keyboard fans
they're still waiting to spend $1500 on theirs - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7you push them with your fingers.
- Vermifax, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7So, in Troll Village, "buried" has an additional "r".
- JonLatane, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5But nothing else is! And having Dashboard/Expose on F3/F4 is just confusing on my Macbook, seeing as how there's already volume buttons on them. I'd like just the regular layout, and perhaps Spaces could use F8 (the only unused key).
- Nightspark, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Who's to say Apple won't move Dashboard to F4? I admit it would be kind of silly, as they've taught everyone to use F12, but they might.
The concept of dedicated buttons with special icons on them is a good idea, as I don't think people remember that F9 is Show All Windows, F10 is Show Application Windows, and F11 is Show Desktop.
And for what it's worth, the Mac I'm using right now (MBP) already has brightness icons on F1 and F2, so at least that's consistent with the alleged keyboard. - tazx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5When you read something that says "Press Command-Z", it's non-obvious to new or inexperience users that "Command" refers to the key with " ⌘" on it.
Presumably having the Apple logo on the main unit of the display/computer and the bottom of the keyboard is considered sufficient. - paulisnotdead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5there is a difference between portable devices and keyboards you know, also I think you meant ipod
- burntfire, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7If it is the new iMac keyboard, then why the hell did they replace the "" with "command"?
- Nightspark, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Why do so many people use MAC? Anyway, it really isn't hard to find these things on your own: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/dashboard/
- bbrosemer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The new keyboard is actually just some software that can read your mind... to elminate the need for any buttons.
- proclaimLiberty, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Why is everyone digging this? This is a fake. It would take about 15 minutes to Photoshop something like this. Why would Apple rearrange the eject and function keys on this keyboard? So that it won't match the other keyboards they sell? Come on.
- zackkitzmiller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It already has a dedicated button. It's call F12. It just doesn't ahve an icon.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3My point wasn't really about them "moving" the dashboard button but was more the fact that the button is shared, just like many other functions are on the notebook keys. This really, really is not news.
Next we'll have people submitting stories like "OMG! Logitech changed the font on their keyboard!!!" - qevlhma93, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Try not looking in the apple section maybe?
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3And they might have more than one designer. Maybe.
Actually.. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3If this has the same tactile feel as the MacBook keyboard then I'm in love.
It looks like they replaced the 'Insert' key with a function 'fn' shift. That's a great idea. I ***** hate the insert key; I'm always hitting it by accident, overwriting my work.
I'm not sure about the missing Apple logo on the command key, though.
Original Mac keyboards actually did not have the Apple logo. It was added to the first ADB keyboards in 1986 for the Apple IIgs to provide compatibility with Apple II software, and it just stuck around.
I'd hate to see Apple keyboards lose that little piece of Apple II legacy. - coreyb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The image is real, your girlfriend... yeah, not so real.
But on to the keyboard, I am going to call bunk for the following reasons.
1. Apple does not SELL eval hardware units before launch.
b. Where the hell would they put the batteries on the wireless version? Apple is not going to develop an ugly version of the keyboard with a giant block on the back just so that we can have wireless. The design team is going to design a beautiful version that can be both USB and wireless.
And thirdly, as cool as a flat aluminum keyboard would be, I would still suspect that the keyboards will still be made out of plastic. it is just more cost effective. - zodieman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I wish they'd get one with the rest of the product revisions already! I really want a new 24" iMac and a new iPod without the phone and internet stuff (leave the touchy screen though!)
- mindblaze, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3damn i actually like it. And to the comment above, Gizmodo does a pretty good job of getting the facts
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Look pretty cool, though looks like there will be some issues in the beginning -- they seem to have shifted all the function keys around the place.
Love the iTunes control buttons btw - TheCheeks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Love this design. I'm using a Macbook everyday and I LOVE the keyboard layout and thin keys. I'll prob buy this when it comes out.
- Shorties, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3That image wasn't originally there when the post was posted, it was only the upside down blurry one. They must of received another image from their source.
- zackkitzmiller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You can't remap buttons because they have a picture on them? Is that hardware or software issue?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+9ok, so I may get buried to the center of the earth for saying this, but, I know hardly nothing of MAC. What exactly is a "Dashboard" icon?
- DonCarcharo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Because it makes things more simplified. By the looks of the keyboard photos (if they are indeed real) a lot of the F-keys have taken on the look of icons. This is pretty much the concept already used in Apple's portable line and personally I like it better. Although I can memorize what all the F-keys do (volume, dashboard, expose, brightness, etc.) it's nice to have little visual cues that remind me.
- Nightspark, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2cmd+shift+3 or 4 (and/or space).

Video how-to: http://www.apple.com/business/videotips/?movie=snapshots - Vermifax, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Is it October, yet....?
- BlueStarr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2hahahahhahaaaaaa
- Nightspark, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm withholding judgement on the ergonomics until I've used it, assuming it's a real product. Lots of people like the MacBook keyboard, so it might work for desktops, too.
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -7/+9It's also easy to link things without being a dick about it.
- StarManta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Funny thing, my Macbook has rubber feet....
Rubber feet on a portable make no sense because they don't sit on a table - they would resist and make it hard to put in or take out of your pocket. - darkyoshi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And your proof of this is... where?
- Carlsen, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Why is this on the front page?
A dedicated Dashboard key, holy crap! This totally beats hitting F12! - mfearby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm hoping for an Apple ergonomic keyboard. Those scrunched-up, straight, keyboards are a real pain (literally)! It's a damn shame that Adesso has committed commercial suicide with their ergonomic Mac keyboard by moving keys to strange locations, such as putting the backslash below the enter key, and having no space above the arrow keys because of the addition of some really useless pf1/pf2/pf3 keys at the top. I think I'll just keep using a Microsoft ergo where the Windows key works perfectly well as a command key.
http://www.adesso.com/products_detail.asp?productid=108 - Davve, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Am I the only one that's not excited about this keyboard?
- Goatman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The cable comes out of the centre of the current Apple keyboard
- mfearby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It was kind of dumb to blur the text underneath a non-blurred barcode that could simply be decoded.
- DocDEB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1WHITE! Oh God! Anything but white!
Actually given the color codes on the back makes me think that there will finally be the possibility of black iMac with matching accouterments. Now that would be nice. Go black! - Shahreel, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1Agreed.
- JustinHorne, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you've used a Maf88fcbook, which I assume you haven't, you'd know that these flat keys actually feel great, and work much better than normal. You wouldn't think so, but moving keys physically less downward makes a huge feel impact, and it's much better.
- HerrSchnuff, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Whatever, Jonathan Ive ftw
- MedHead, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Funny. Whenever I use a laptop keyboard, I think "Boy, I wish this were like a desktop keyboard".
- grayapple, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Why do we need a Print Screen button, when CMD+SHIFT+1 does the same thing?
