- TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33He asked if there was a windows equivlant, but feel free to be an ass about it.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Very nice, clever app. You could use this at a party if you didn't have decks and you didn't want to rent them.
- macman81, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Mirror in case the site goes down:
http://rosco.protei.net/djay_1.1.1.dmg - Broccoli, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18I have this app and it is by far the best freeware i have ever gotten. Its really fun to mess with your music.
- tutivlahos, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Be careful, KraMixer from ww.kramware.com has a spyware.
- StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14To be safe, wouldn't hurt to make a copy of the library.xml...
- staan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Don't see how this is possible, since it only reads from the iTunes library.
For what it's worth, I've been playing with djay for several weeks, and my library is fine. - bieber, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"You need not invest hundreds of dollars into proprietary DJ software"
It _is_ proprietary... - jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9It worked just fine for me. No problems with iTunes after running it on my Powerbook G4
- StarManta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8In your user folder, under music, there's a little file called iTunes Library.xml. Duplicate that before you run the program if you're worried.
- ziadbc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10This is awesome, I've spent tons of money on equipment that does far less for much more!
- glafira, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Its like Atomix Virtual DJ for the Mac.
- Broccoli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This hasnt given me any trouble at all and ive had it for about 3 days.
- Chexee, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Panic! sucks, though. :]
- blake213, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5My problem with Ableton Live (for DJ uses) is the fact that it decodes everything to raw wav (or aiff) when you load it or even preview it. If you play a four hour set, that's a TON of space to be writing to disk. That's why I switched to Traktor... because it loads each song one by one into memory and flushes it out once you unload it from a deck.
Ableton is a great app though... endless possibilities for sequencing live music. Just not the greatest DJ tool out there.. - aroedl, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7@wafflesound:
Here are two alternatives for you:
http://mixxx.sourceforge.net/
http://www.native-instruments.com:80/index.php?id=traktor3_us
Traktor is obviously not a freeware product, but you can toy around with the demo version. - reveiled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i have long been looking for a dj software on mac equal to virtual dj on pc, since i got my intel imac last month(yes i'm a switcher)
Thanks for digging this
any other apps you guys know about? - macman81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://www.freemacware.com
- fusioned, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5holy ***** this is impressive. plus free? very nice!
- G5geek, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9It is a little too basic for me, I am a DJ and i use traktor 3 for my mixing. I can see that this cool little app would be great for the average home user, But it lacks sme major controlls for me. Big Up to Djay. But not made for Drum and Bass / Jungle.
- NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Neat app, it imports your album art onto the top of the record.
I dont have much use for it, but thanks :) - chinocochino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The GUI is reallyl nice and polished. And the interface certainly takes the "battle scratching mixer" paradigm to the next level. But in terms of features it doesn't offer anything that any of the other programs out there have.
If only it had some sort of sampling, it would basically have most of what traktor has, and free to boot! In any case, it's pretty cool. - mingistech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4what are you talking about?
- thread, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Holy crap this app is nice! I've been using Mixxx (mixxx.sf.net) under linux for some time, and this one has some nice features... I'm considering getting an iMic or other usb audio device (any suggestions? iMic is like $40) just so I can dj on the go (with my MBP). (Headphone cue is definitely a requirement for mixing...) Big props to these developers!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Just hooked up my Logitech USB headset, works perfectly for track-cuing. Awesome free app!
- reevolutn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2very slick website too.
but i want a windows version... - TeqnoHaxor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Shame it's basically useless without a second sound card (like a USB headset), the advantage Atomix' Virtual DJ had was automatic beat counting and a visual waveform representation, so it was possible to cue and beat mix without actually hearing the second track first.
- redboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wouldn't exactly call this thing 'Pro' by a long shot... but its cute :)
i'll take my traktor 3.0 and feena controller over it anyday - morgdx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@mingistech
Don't you mean bring more to the DIV? - wrinkles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I didn't see the license, is this free beer or free speech?
- Broccoli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I find that they always start a bit off of eachother andi havent found a way to fix it. But this program is still in the works so im sure it will be fixed sooner or later.
- reevolutn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1aww shucks, i liked this website untill i found it was created by one of those silly programs
- chosenone-, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Erm, arrange your comments by date and thou shall see the structure.
- bking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anybody else have a problem with scratching? I tried it on a computer at school, and that "turntable" wouldn't play sounds until I restarted the app.
- GopherChucks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If I had to guess, I would imagine that you simply moved the library from it's original location on accident.
Relative structure can be very ftl at times. - elroy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9It's very close to usable. It's mostly lacking in it's pitch control ability.
It needs a longer pitch control slider so that small adjustments are easier to make. Setting the range of the pitch control would be nice too. I don't know that I need to pitch 50% in either direction... It also needs a "sticky" button for pitch, so you can fix it at a position, but temporarily bend up/down to make corrections to your match, and have it return to that position when you let go of mouse.
Other than that, I'm very impressed with this -- for freeware, it's got a lot to offer (it hosts streams, for christs sake!). If nothing else it's fun to screw around with! - spaemo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I'm getting scared about installing it now that people are losing their libraries.
- djNullSpace, on 10/12/2007, -14/+15Played with it for 5 minutes and it killed my 6000 track library... lost all my ratings that took me months to do.
I'll stick to Abletone Live, thanks. I'd rather spend $400 on software that works well instead of $400 of my time to fix my now-corrupted track library. - moltek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.studiotoolz.net
- meatmaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is a blast. I have an iMic so I was able to do the pre-cueing
- e_mnc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was going to borrow a set of USB headphones to test it out. So thanks for answering the question in advance.
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1forget I said that
- porkstacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1LOL! Attempting to draw a parallel between "covers" and this "remixing" concept is like trying to say that sex with a transvestite is the same as with a real woman.
Perhaps this link may enlighten you a tad:
http://nkhstudio.com/pages/amen_mp4.html - spaemo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thanks a lot!
- Twango, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Remixing isn't plagiarism. Where HAVE you been?
All music is built on the work of other musicians. Going back to the beginning. Music has been Open Source since cave days. Ever heard of "cover"? Was Hendrix ***** when he covered other people?
I suppose DJing doesn't take any talent either, huh? - al28p, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I always liked that app wheni used my pc.
- commongiga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i've never used any program like this before but i've always wanted to try. i'm really having trouble getting 2 songs to sync up and having them play together. am i missing the point of the program? i've tried using the bpm sync but i still can't get them to match right. any suggestions?
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ONFG, this app is has been worked on to the cORE~~~!!@#$
what I mean is... it's very polished. I mean come on, who could think of using the iSight for a reflection on a turntable. and FREE!! - waxdart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now if only they could integrate this with Coverflow, oh that'd be sweet.
- plaxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2this is a pretty cool program, for freeware, but I still prefer my friend ableton :)
