- aldenhg, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12rusty g: Why did you post links in both articles? Isn't it convention to post in the youngest dupe?
- rusty_g, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2it was showing that there was a dupe...
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4When pointing out a dupe in the comments, I find it's a good idea to check the posted times first. Don't get me wrong, I search for and report dupes as well, but in this case you're being a jerk.
As you can see, the stories were posted within a minute of each other, which means that the posters both likely checked for dupes and found none.
But hey, you look dumb now that I pointed this out, so everything is even.
- michaelbolton, on 10/12/2007, -19/+0and stocks will reflect this how?
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Looks like there will be a new big apple!!
- kiilsong, on 10/12/2007, -17/+3Why don't they just build a headquarters in NYC?
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Ahem, to quote Douglas Adams:
"When it's fall in New York, the air smells as if someone's been frying goats in it, and if you are keen to breathe the best plan is to open a window and stick your head in a building." - puffarthur, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7hey man, don't diss NYC it's a great place. but yea, it definitely would be hard to build a 50 acre campus in Manhattan hahaha. A nice cube-shaped skyscraper instead?
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I'm not dissing NYC. It's got the financial center of the world there & encompases the UN, and that's fine. But it's pretty indisputable California is the hub for most things techy. Where else can you drive for 10 mins and pass Maxtor, Yahoo, Google, *Fry's*... etc.
- ricodued, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1puffarthur:
Good luck building a cube that is a skyscraper and somehow doesn't take up a lot of ground area.
/height = width
//duh - xAXISx, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5Oh yes, because we all know how well the other Apple cubes have performed.
- puffarthur, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10yes yes the cube is a horrible idea and my joke it was an obvious reference to that fact. seriously some people have a terrible sense of sarcasm.
- xAXISx, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Heh, just pointing out the obvious.
- ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9What kind of solution is that?
1] Apple was founded in that area of California, and has it's global headquarters in Cupertino already.
2] The cost of office space in New York City is insanely high.
3] Can you find 50 acres of land in NYC?- muleking, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5IBM use to have a large campus in my town outside NYC but they moved out a few years ago and a Extremist Religous Cult moved in. You better believe my town misses that tax revenue.
- tobsterius, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1in regards to 3... you could just build up. I hear skyscrapers are working out pretty well for NYC these days ;p
- mikecpeck, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4How many glass cubes do you think it will have?
- idesign, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Just one ***** massive one.
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9The faithful will have to make a pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime.
- spdorsey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Apple's main cmapus has little or no cubes. The buildings they lease do have them, though. Apple is a very office-oriented company, preferring walls to partitions.
- rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3How about glass staircases? Or glass locker rooms?
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6how about a glass R&D room?
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Do they build apple trees around their campuses?
As part of the landscape i mean..- spdorsey, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4nope
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v502/Einhanderkiller/harrisonforly.png
- spdorsey, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4nope
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wonder if they are going to somehow connect it to "Infinite Loop" (the street they are on now in Cupertino)... or maybe they will just have a corporate culture of multiple infinities...
- liquidcoooled, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4They have so much real estate, I'm actually wondering whether they will rename the town iCupertino.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought the loop was infinite! I suppose you can't get bigger than infinite X2 !!
- TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"They have so much real estate, I'm actually wondering whether they will rename the town iCupertino."
Nah they are going to rename it Dual Campus Cupertino Pro
- KillerX, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3Thanks for the duplicate story kisong, your the coolest, not.
- ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Well your story had an awfuly worded title, thus the best worded title/description wins. Deal with it, or call the dupe police.
- wncommercial, on 10/12/2007, -11/+7Oh great. I work near the current campus, and the Apple employees are the worst f'ing drivers ever. They clog the De Anza exit all morning long already, because they fail to grasp they've got a right turn lane all for them, and they clog the onramp in the afternoon by flocking like lemmings to BJ's for a post-work beer. This'll just add more of 'em. Boo.
- jclstone, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Yeah really. I live in Palo Alto and work in Mountain View and we have the exact same problem with all the Google schmucks. Also, 280 south from Palo Alto is starting to get as bad as 101 again.
- TheRealDeal, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Jealousy....
- esoteric0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4those aren't apple people going to bj's. apple people are smart enough to walk from the main campus.
- ucbrave92, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10this is awesome 3000 to 3500 employee, i hope that means they will be hiring
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i wonder if they will seperate their iPod and iTunes division into the new campus
- tjdoom, on 10/12/2007, -9/+5My school's in Cupertino.
- revidium, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6Apple's building a new building, fascinating. Reported as lame!
- macgabriel87, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8california. the coolest place on earth
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Apple's HQ is currently reading 10 Mega Fonzi's
- webXL, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Well, they shouldn't have a problem paying for it as long as they keep beating Wall Street estimates.
Go AAPL, go! - Electrox3d, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I live down the street from Apple's HQ, and its true, their buildings are all over cupertino renting out every knook and cranny. I dont have any idea of where they'd find 50 acres here though... especially not 1-mile from the HQ... must be several places I think are all doing well that are about to go under. lol
- ajiva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Hmm, for the life of me I can't think of a single place near Cupertino that has 50 acres... Unless they bought Vallco Fashion Park and that whole dead space near and around it. That's about 1 mile from the headquarters. Vallco has been dead for at least 10 years now, so its possible the owners sold it to Apple
- wncommercial, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2unlikely though, because the new multiplex is getting put into Vallco right now....
- WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My guess is right here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=cupertino,+ca&t=h&om=1&ll=37.330712,-122.009321&spn=0.005127,0.011169
Just about a mile east of the main campus, across the freeway. This new site is actually about a block from my house...
- billypalooza, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Here's a link to the Cupertino City Council April 18th webcast (Real Media format):

Steve's speech is roughly 13 minutes into the video.- TheRealDeal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2 Great find! Thanks for the vid. :-)
- jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Is Steve Jobs a reliable source?
Good news for Apple. What are they going to have inside the new 50 acre campus?- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1...intel!
Ba Dum Bum...
(ok, I know, this will get modded down, but I couldn't resist)
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1...intel!
- 4answer2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If you are in the area, Apple is a pretty decent place to work for, imo
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I like how they call it a "campus". That's cute. I'm thinking of building a campus for my wife and I in the woods. Perhaps a tree-campus, no?
- jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4it is better than a compound. I used to live in a compound.
- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3How about a bordello?
- playedalive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Watching steve jobbs talk in the meeting and even though it is just a council meeting i still expected cheering when he came up to speak ;), felt just like a apple keynote.
- roosh4, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6why is this diggworthy?
- goat4, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3it isnt. ***** report this *****
- Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2because it has one of the key digg words in it..apple, mac, osx, or ipod. anything with that in the title automatically goes to the front page.
- eddieroger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1maybe because its tech news on a tech news website. the headline could read "[Google | Microsoft | Red Hat | Novell | IBM | ...] to build new 50-acre campus in California", and it would still be tech news on a tech site.
- TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1@roosh4"why is this diggworthy? "
I dont know Roosh4 why is 'Video: Snake coughs up entire hippo' diggworthy?
- vondur, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I say they build their new campus in the socal deserts where the land is cheap. All you have to worry about is the hidden meth labs all around.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Sony was 'the company' in the 20th century!
Apple is 'the company' for the 21st Century!! - MrKite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Keepin' it in America. Way to go, Apple!
- MrKite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That has nothing to do with this 50 acre campus. Apple will fill this campus with jobs... right here in the US. It has nothing to do with working on a conveyer belt putting little parts on a board.
- PantherX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I don't get it. Don't they realize that other areas of the U.S. has employable smart people that may not want to move because of ties to family and friends? And from what I understand that area of the world is quite ***** to commute in.
- tobsterius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6what I don't understand is your reasoning behind your comment. Apple's main goal is to get the offices that are currently spread out around cupertino in one area and close to the current apple campus so they are easier to manage. Why would they want to put in another part of the country?
- tobsterius, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2what I don't understand is your reasoning behind your comment. Apple's main goal is to get the offices that are currently spread out around cupertino under one roof and close to the current apple campus so they are easier to manage. Why would they want to put in another part of the country?
- rahul.kishore, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Well first off, as a person who lives by cupertino, trust me its a lot better than any back water town anywhere in any state. In fact, Cupertino schools are some of the best in the nation, their population is diverse and strong. There is great employment due to Apple and the other great companies that call the valley home. Understand that the valley is the PLACE TO CREATE ANYTHING. You have credibility in the valley, tech is in the valley, you can't challenge that. So how do you expect that any tech company could imagine themselves in any other place than the middle of silicon valley?
- JimmyJohnJedi, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Apple is bulding a new cafeteria! Weeeeeeeeee! Apple has a new letterhead! Weeeeeeeeeee! Apple changed the T.P. in there restroom! Weeeeeeeeeee! - sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Yay! I hope that I can pull of a job there!
- TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Funny cause it isnt going to happen, get a grip on the reality of now and deal with it. Im sick of people who complain about apple stories making it to the front page. SO ***** what? move on to the next story noone is holding a gun to your head trying to make you read it, and to make it worse they have to comment on how much they hate it. do you have that much hatred for apple that you would be one of these people or do you just like to see your own opinion splattered across the screen?
