- palmer, on 11/03/2009, -5/+24"If you want to right-click, you'll need to get used to lifting your left-most finger off of the mouse in order for it to register correctly."
ASININE. - nickpowers101, on 11/03/2009, -3/+21I played around with this mouse at the Apple Store. Scrolling up and down through web pages is REALLY nice. It's much nicer than the crappy Mighty Mouse scroll ball that would get stuck and be unusable half the time.
- drouk1556, on 11/03/2009, -5/+23That's not true at all.
iPod, iPhone, iTunes, QuickTime, Boot Camp, Safari, Time Capsule, Apple TV, AirPort, Bonjour, and Snow Leopard has Microsoft Exchange support out of the box.
Can I use a Zune or Xbox 360 with my Mac?
Didn't think so. - ChaotikBlu, on 11/03/2009, -2/+17"The two-finger swipe is quite useful when browsing the Web, and I've already stopped right-clicking to go backwards and forwards through my browser history."
People still do that? - IphtashuFitz, on 11/03/2009, -3/+16Summary from the bottom of the article for those who don't want to read it:
The good
* Swiping back and forth through your browser history beats clicking or keyboarding
* Momentum scrolling is extremely well-implemented
* No place for palm cheese to be deposited
* Pleasing heft
* Tracking
The bad
* Not the most ergonomically pleasing mouse
* Occasionally interprets movement as a swipe
* Secondary-click implementation could be better
The ugly
* No support for Exposé and Dashboard - donosaurr, on 11/03/2009, -1/+11someone needs to find out how to implement a middle click. i'm pretty sure this can be done as the mouse knows the placement of your fingers on its surface.
- Super6, on 11/03/2009, -4/+13I'll stick with my Logitech G7, thanks. The whole Logitech Mx and G series has the great mouse shape in the world, anything else just feels wrong.
- 4rp4n3t, on 11/04/2009, -0/+7Not *this* mouse though. Not without drivers.
- diggimator, on 11/03/2009, -6/+13"If you're using a Logitech or some other third-party mouse and are wondering if it's time to give one of Apple's eccentric mice a shot, it isn't."
I'll take the advice and stick to my trusty Logitech VX Nano.
@ww3ace, The Windows drivers will probably be available only with Boot Camp on an Apple computer. Better think of it as a Mac only mouse. Mac computer is a system requirement: http://www.apple.com/magicmouse/ - ww3ace, on 11/03/2009, -1/+8It'd be neat to install this on my media center PC, though I tend to stick to my remote for using that. Are there going to be windows 7 drivers readily available?
- 2caster3, on 11/03/2009, -13/+20To be honest it's a very useful mouse with some pretty cool features. I can't wait till they really unlock what this mouse can do.
- TruckStuff, on 11/03/2009, -2/+7meh.... I always hated the side buttons for Expose anyways. I always wound up "clicking" those buttons when a picked up the mouse to move it closer to me.
- diggimator, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5Try doing Ctrl-Alt-Delete with the short Apple USB Keyboard on a Windows machine. You can't, because Apple doesn't provide drivers for their hardware to PC users, and without that the Fn key doesn't work (since the short keyboard has only 1 key for delete and backspace, you need the Fn key to be able to do both). Also, the System Requirements on Apple's website specifically exclude non-Mac PCs.
- bjornski, on 11/04/2009, -2/+7Butt there's no sense of smug involved that way....
- wrathbone, on 11/03/2009, -0/+5I have the same problem - it's too small and low. I think it's really cool, but my hand just doesn't work with it.
- steviesteveo, on 11/04/2009, -0/+5I think it's cool that you can buy a mouse which gets better as time goes on but at the same time waiting and wishing for a product to get better is pretty rough on the people who own the mouse. Yes you need to be patient but that's just because the feature hasn't been implemented yet.
- ClevelandBrown, on 11/03/2009, -0/+4I've got the G9 and I absolutely love it with the precision grip.
- Ryanman7, on 11/04/2009, -0/+4The question isn't whether the mouse was useful... like you're saying, a ball has its advantages.
But think about it compared to the competition. With the price people were paying for the mighty mouse, should you be required to use the rubbing alcohol trick every week or two? Should it feel like something you got with a cheap Dell instead of a 40 dollar mouse from a manufacturer who most definitely has a better handle on hardware design?
And I decry the notion that this mouse was useful for graphic design in the slightest. It's low resolution, imperfect feel, and a picky right mouse button make it worse than anything you could have gotten from logitech or razr for the same price. - cenarta, on 11/03/2009, -3/+7I got one, but after a day of use and my wrist hurting I am back to my MX Revolution. My business partner loves it though. I think it has to do with the fact that I am 6'3" with very long fingers. The lack of an ergonomic grip does a number on my wrists.
- Yarkz, on 11/04/2009, -1/+5I just use mouse4 and mouse5 on my mouse, much simpler than having to swipe your hand, and probably more comfortable.
- Sherman901, on 11/03/2009, -3/+7Don't listen to L0NER, he's a ***** idiot. It'll probably be availabel pretty soon. I've got Windows 7 dual booted on my iMac and it works fine.
- Twinnie, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3My next mouse is still going to be the MS BlueTrack.
- Ramble, on 11/03/2009, -1/+4Had my G5 for years now and the scroll wheel isn't and has never gummed up.
- bencanfield, on 11/03/2009, -0/+3I can't remember the last time I used Forward. I just use backspace for Back.
- rushnerd, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3NO BODY.
Comfort>Style - 2caster3, on 11/03/2009, -2/+5Actually apple mice and keyboards work for Windows, I have constantly used bot third party and apple hardware on my Windows 7 PC.
- Twinnie, on 11/04/2009, -0/+3The Darkfield is ugly as sin, as are all Logitech mice. I'll take a decent looking BlueTrack Explorer with excellent battery life any day of the week. I'm sure I'll regret my decision next time I'm using my glass mouse-pad though.
- 3rdfinger, on 11/04/2009, -2/+5It's 10 times better then the mighty crap! Mix that bad boy with the Hot Corners and you're mousin' in style!
Love that it's wireless too. Only down side i see is, not rechargeable... I'd like to see a dockable/chargeable version like Logitech has. - Skurt, on 11/03/2009, -1/+4Right, because PCs never get 'palm cheese'
Damn students here with their Cheetos and Doritos rubbing the scroll wheel and gumming up the works... - georgetds, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2Hey, it worked for mp3 players and cell phones. They even sell a few computers Who knows, right?
- rushnerd, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2I think application is key here. Your not going to see this being the top used mouse at the next CoD convention. But I think it has more viable use in graphic arts, web surfing.
Still I game, have larger hands, and using the mouse for an extended amount of time everyday so it's my preference. - palehorse864, on 11/04/2009, -1/+3Was the scroll wheel getting clogged a problem on the mighty mouse? I've had a lot of mice over the years with scroll wheels, and never had a clogging problem of any sort. The last mouse related clogging problem I had was right before I switched over to an optical mouse.
- ajcates, on 11/03/2009, -2/+4then for 5 years you didn't use it.
- ViralCoreX7F, on 11/03/2009, -1/+3Am I the only one that uses the Microsoft Sidewinder? Its a little awkward to hold at first but i love it. I gave the Apple mouse a try when I was at my campus store and it wasn't all that fun to use. I'm probably just used to a huge mouse and all the buttons :P
But swiping my fingers to do stuff doesn't feel natural on a mouse but a touch pad or touch screen it feels natural. - defectDS, on 11/04/2009, -5/+7Strangely, this is something I've always done naturally, like lifting my pinky when drinking from a mug. :/
- nmanguy, on 11/04/2009, -1/+3Eh, I prefer my wireless laser five button mouse with a scroll wheel. Plus I get to actually game on it, so that's cool too.
Well, time for some Pirates Vikings and Knights on my outdated archaic mouse... that "just works" on my PC. - BrynF, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2I use MX Revolution with my Mac and after trying out the Magic Mouse while ordering my new iMac, I have to say the Magic Mouse will join a large collection of unused Apple mice in my closet. It felt awkward to hold, right-clicking was stupid (have to lift index finger), and while the momentum scrolling is cool if you've never tried it, MX Revolution's actual rolling wheel is just a nicer implementation and more controllable in my opinion.
- Phatlip012, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2I don't like it. It's difficult to use. It's easy making multi-touch gestures on a trackpad, but not on a mouse.
- MacHarborGuy, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2so basically it's the Meh Mouse
I have both a wired and wireless Mighty Mouse, and it took me quite a while to get used to it. My main mouse is an old, 5 button Logitech wireless model. Uses double A batteries, and still works fantastically well. - 2caster3, on 11/03/2009, -1/+3I agree, touch sensitive is the way to go, and no dead skin clogging up a scroll wheel!.
- awall1987, on 11/04/2009, -1/+3His point remains... Windows Mobile Phones won't sync with OS X also.. Microsoft is really bad about providing for Mac users... sryz you luuz
- TallestSkil, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Enjoy not using a computer until around 2050, then.
- bjornski, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2I've got the Mobile Mouse 6000. VERY nice.
The only thing I don't like about it is that the scroll-wheel doesn't have a "click" feel to it. It's a perfectly smooth scroll, which is actually BAD for some things like gaming. Though you do get used to it, and it IS very nice feeling, and takes only the slightest brush of a fingertip to scroll.
And the Blue Track is awesome :) Wicked battery life, can use it on *ANY* damned surface you can find, and feels nice and solid. And hey, 5 programmable buttons. I like that.
Very much worth the $45 - awall1987, on 11/04/2009, -0/+2That sounds more like a remote control than a mouse. Just what I need.... another remote control. I'm sure your fancy mouse works in a few Windows programs... for the other 90% it is just clicking like the rest of us.
- clyde2801, on 11/16/2009, -0/+1AGATA: Apple Giveth, Apple Taketh Away
- palehorse864, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1I meant to say "some of" but apparently screwed that up somehow. Yeah, these aren't winning any beauty contests in my opinion, but I remember a genius mouse a long while back, I think in the late 80's early 90's that certainly wasn't winning any beauty contests. I really meant some of the ugliest current mice.
I remember seeing the mighty mouse in the store and thought "yeah, the horizontal scroll is kind of neat, but then I would have to have that thing on my desk." - ducttape36, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1erganomics is the most important thing in a mouse to me. but ive also got a touch screen laptop. if i really want to do gestures, ill do them on my screen.
- command76, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1Its a great thing...
- command76, on 11/04/2009, -0/+1I know. I love Apple. The Itouch is one of the greatest things I've ever owned to date. And the mac labtops are amazing. Apple is innovative and brings new things and creative ideas to the market. It takes balls for a company to constantly try to reinvent things and bring new things to the market and Apple does it often.
