- JetwingX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6What i Don't Understand is why none of you can seem to wait for Virtual PC... It will Be running windows on it's native x86 Processor and will be Blazing fast compared to previous versions. not to mention every one wins. Microsoft can sell an OS license and people who need to run 2 operating systems have that ability.
Patience People... Patience
(btw, what's with there only being one comment with a positive digg?) - Avian00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3MacOS is the Mac's primary strength. Put Windows on a Mac, and you may as well just buy a Dell. And don't feed me this crap about Apple's "superior" hardware. Sure the design is cool, and I'll give them props for their Mini and their latest iMac, but in the end it's all the same stuff under the hood... now more than ever!
And for you snobs who talk down to those of us who would rather see MacOS on a generic PC by saying "It's already been done." Do your homework. Yeah, it's been done, but it's a hack-job at best! Instead of devoting so much time and money ($13,000 is it?) to ensuring the future of an inferior OS by furthering its adoption by Mac users, let's help further OS innovation by relieving ourselves of our idiotic dependency on Windows. Even just a little competition to Windows would do WONDERS in this industry where everyone just assumes Windows is as good as it's going to get. - rollercoaster37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2VIrtual PC doesn't support Hardware Accellerated Graphics.
- rollercoaster37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dual boot. It's not like these people are just deleting OS X from their machines. They want access to DX9, IE (for browser testing), etc. Stuff that only windows has. Sure OS X is a better OS, but the fact is, you can't get everything from it.
- Avian00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's a fair argument. However, I have tried the dual-boot thing with Linux and Windows. The problem is, that's cumbersome at best. I find myself staying in Windows more often because (as much as I hate to admit this) it's just easier to get things done there (not to mention the game support). MacOS presents (in my mind anyway) a GREAT compromise between Linux and Windows. Most of the mainstream apps and games are being ported to this platform. I just hate to see it stifled for stuff as petty as browser testing and DX9. IE sucks and DX9 is not open. But Microsoft has cornered the market with these technologies simply because they are the paths of least resistance. There ARE alternatives, and while they're not always the easiest, they will become better as more people choose them.
- Avian00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What's the deal with people giving negative digg's to comments just because they disagree with them?
Let's reserve those for people who are either completely off-topic or contribute absolutely nothing of value to the discussion. That's why they're there. - ronaldpoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@spoonman: Seems like all this was emulated. Also the VGA controllers... wich were not available on the Intel Macs
- rollercoaster37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think buying a Mac, in and of itself, isn't the path of least resistance. The main problem that OS X faxes with application support is lack of DX9 - If the occasional Advanced user is able to get this support, why shouldn't that be encouraged?
I see your point however. If you really want to support OpenGL vs. Dx9, buy Mac ports... But that won't do anything by itself. You need lots of people doing the same, if you intend of accomplish something. - spoonman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From what I understand, they wrote a custom bootloader. This means it will probably work like GRUB or LILO where you boot the machine and get a menu allowing you to choose OSX or XP. Anyone know about XP's access to BIOS features like ACPI on the Mac?
- rollercoaster37, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Except, this was posted first ;)
- luxx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Excellent timing!! My Macbook Pro is due any time now. Mind you there are only a few things that I need XP for. But it will be great to run these things natively!!
- rollercoaster37, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1EDIT: Posted to wrong parent...
- Avian00, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Oops! Wrong parent too... I'm still getting used to this new digg system.
- rajivm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Based on the title and description, theres a minor distinct difference; I would look at the page this links to also, but it appears to be suffering the digg effect.
The first item digg announced the contest was one and someone had a solution, but it was still in the testing phase I believe. It was not 100% confirmed at that time. This post seems to say the contest's testers have confirmed the proposed solution. - frem001, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3How would this work? whould i have to boot into xp or could i do it through OS X in a seperate window. God I really wouldn't be bothered if microstation and rhino were mac compatible. still i refuse to buy a license until they release their software for mac.
- goodcompany, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0I wish this guy could find a host that was up to muster
