My friend has an iBob. - loki440, on 10/11/2007, -4/+65iCarumba!
- BenBenMan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+58Let me guess without clicking the link .... Made in China?

you most certainly do
the shell mini is more like an iPod shuffle
the "LCD Screen" is really just a photo stuck behind a piece of clear plastic - HarryHunt, on 10/11/2007, -2/+39iCan't take these iJokes anymore
- Topher06, on 10/11/2007, -4/+39@Bamborzled. Actually, Creative has sued Apple for copying their interface. Creative had a very similar interface before the first iPod. If there is one company that should be allowed to have a similar interface, its Creative as they actually came up with the UI style. Other then that, I see no similarities between the Creative product and an iPod. other then the fact they both have a screen and can play music.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+32Tell me something that's NOT made in China? Now THAT would be news worthy.
- razrielle, on 10/11/2007, -5/+32Hey look, the iPhone
- TexanPsycho, on 10/11/2007, -3/+26Use the reply button.
- bat-21, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21Why?
- Forestmb, on 10/11/2007, -12/+31The zune isn't even close to a rip off. You might argue the Creative Zen, but seeing as how they got most of their patents in before Apple that argument isn't really well-founded either.
- CopyNinja, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11My friend bought an ipod knockoff that looks a whole lot like a nano, except it has an SD reader, built in flash storage and can play movies and wmas in addition to apple formats... a whole lot cheaper too.
- guytoronto, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10"iBob"
What you do in your free time is your business. - s0m3oNe, on 10/11/2007, -6/+15Creative filed thier patents first. If creative is the one ripping of the Ipod, then why would Apple pay them $100 million?
"Creative was awarded a U.S. patent on a music management system consisting of several pages (commonly seen on audio players, including the popular Apple iPod) on 30 August 2005, after applying for it on Jan 5 2001. Apple filed for a similar patent on 20 Oct 2002 but was rejected [5]. Along with the launch of the ZEN Vision:M, Creative announced that it will "aggressively pursue" respect of its intellectual property, addressing "all manufacturers that use the same navigation system." So far, Creative has only addressed Apple's infringement of its "ZEN Patent". Creative announced on May 15, 2006 that it has filed two lawsuits against Apple. Since then, Apple and Creative have reached a settlement, with Apple paying $100 million, and Creative joining the "Made for iPod" accessory program"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Zen - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+14The Zune is a *complete* iPod/iTunes rip off that signified the death of Microsoft's old WMP-based strategy for competing with Apple. The Zune demonstrates once and for all that the only way Microsoft can compete with the iPod is to emulate Apple's iPod/iTunes ecosystem in its entirety.
- TrevorBradley, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I think I just picked up one on eBay too..

I'll let you know how it turns out.. :) - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Not iBob. You're thinking of "Microsoft Windows Media Player for Microsoft Bob, by Microsoft".
- EtherGnat, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7I love how when Apple copies somebody, it's inconsequential and it was a ***** patent anyway. Yet Microsoft merely uses a similar color or OMFG puts a button in the same corner and they're totally ripping Apple off. The whole thing is stupid anyway--I'd love to see companies copying the good ideas of their competition MORE.
For starters I'd like to see Apple copy Microsoft, and provide a number of different iPhones on different carriers to meet varying needs, release a third party dev kit, and make the battery user replaceable. Then Microsoft could copy Apple and give us a screen in a higher res than 320x240 and update their mobile web browser that hasn't seen a significant update in years, and maybe not crash quite so often.
Seriously, all this "HE COPIED ME!!!!!" ***** sounds like a couple of six year olds arguing in the back seat of the Chevy on the way to Grandma's house. Don't make me turn this car around. - MacParrot, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7The whole "Zune copied off iPod" thing is way overdone. A Digital Audio Player from just about anyone pretty much works the same. Some design changes, some use different formats, whatever. If you use it and enjoy the experience, be happy. See something better? Buy that instead. Thinking you're better than someone else because of the tech gear you buy = loser
- nreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Hey... i guess tawain was made in china....
- FortyCaliber, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Not buried... but certainly not Dugg.
I would expect as much from China, but I would expect more pictures from TecheBlog.
There has to be more, worse, or just as bad ones. - AZRoboto, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5This article was a time rip-off.
Who does a list with only 3 items?
*Buries* - abhiroop, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5wish there were a few more. Not that great an article if you only have a few actual knock-offs.
- Auto, on 10/11/2007, -8/+13Topher is right... This isn't the first time Apple has copied something. Everyone seems to forget that Premiere had the UI years before Final Cut ever made it to the market. Just another example that Apple is just as low as Microsoft and other corporations that have made seriously dollars off other's ideas.
- realwx, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5iBob: The first music player made by Microsoft Bob
- rm999, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Could they ask any more rhetorical but pointless questions in the article?
- BZKyle, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I don't know why, but I just had to digg you up.
- trshtehdsh, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7i have one of those "ibobs" - my mom got it for me after my real ipod hard drive died. It does FM radio and video, which is sorta cool, but trying to navigate the file structure to actually use the thing is entirely frustrating. i was going to throw it at the wall, but well the wall didn't do anything to deserve that sort of treatment... so i put it in its box and forgot about it until now.
- Tourney3p0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Punch yourself. Hard.
- trongod05, on 10/11/2007, -11/+14"Who cares who ripped off Apple, Apple has zero moral high ground. Two words: Diamond Rio"
Exactly!
Diamond Rio http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/5224/riopmp300mp3player32mb3ay3.jpg
1g iPod http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/1853/1gipodki6.jpg - cwoolf34, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I don't know how many times I had people (mostly foreigners) come into the CompUSA on Fifth Ave. NYC and ask me for a charger for their iPod. They bust it out and it's one of those fake nanos. I tell them it's a counterfeit iPod and they look at me in disgust. I am fine with the folks who buy it knowing it fake. But the ones who got ripped off and get mad at me for breaking the news sucked. Also a lot of folks confused the Sansa MP3 players with the iPod. So many people returned cases, saying "It doesn't fit the iPod".
- evanstapler, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3They forgot the most recent:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/25/keepin-it-real-fake-part-lix-sony-nano-sure-to-be-a-hit/ - polymorphist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I would be amazed if the original Apple iPOD wasn't made in China.
- MacParrot, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5@auto,
Apple purchased Final Cut in its almost completed form from Macromedia. Oddly enough the same design team created both Premiere and Final Cut, but Final Cut was created to use QuickTime.
@IMustBeEmo
Calling someone a "moron" might be more effective if you take the time to spell it correctly. - IMustBeEmo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Zephkiel, Vision:M wasn't the first Zen to use that interface.
Apple copied off Creative, morans. - noahhoward, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7They don't look anything alike... what the hell?
- aserer511, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2whats best is that some of these players have DISTINCT advantages over the iPod. My friend's sister got him one and while it was buggy, it was A)driverless and B) used a mini-USB cable, not proprietary cables for charging or data. Also it had an icon driven menu system and a radio.
- IMustBeEmo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I saw a guy with a Zune, and all I have to say is DAMN that screen is sexy. I don't know why everyone bashes the Zune, although I've never used it before.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Well, considering how many of the technologically unsavvy are starting to call ALL MP3 players, iPods... its almost to be expected.
Last week someone saw the Sony Network Walkman I got from Woot on the cheap and said, "Wow that's the shiniest iPod I've ever seen". - Zephkiel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@Strabes
Hence why I also mentioned "mass produced" in the things Creative would've had to do in 3 months.
@IMustBeEmo
I'm talking about the same sized screen and the same length and width of the respective players. - EntangledPhysx, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5I've got an "iBob"... its basically a bastard child from some idiot designer... bastard covered bastards with bastard fillings is what those MP3 players are!!! Not worth 20 bucks IMO... There's too many things wrong with them to list.
- noahhoward, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7No, you are one of the few who can look at a Zune and see a ripoff though. Everyone is blinded by wanting Microsoft to be god.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2There's like 3 pictures... How is this at 1k+ diggs?
- rdoger6424, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Dugg down for answering a rhetorical question.
- Bamborzled, on 10/11/2007, -28/+29"The worst Creative Zen knockoff is the iPod."
No, the worst iPod knockoff is the Creative Zen Vision:M. Take a look:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6d/ZVM_black.jpg
Now, take a look at the iPod:
http://store.apple.com/Catalog/regional/amr/ipod/gallery/gallery-big-01.jpg
The two are so different from each other, right? I mean, the Zen has an FM Radio and a black background!
No, seriously; it even has the menu items in the same order. - LyokoIsCool, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1WTF only three things?
- desmondregan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1they are actually quite good i have 2
- withoutashovel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1where the hell is the sony ipod?
- tux11, on 02/16/2009, -0/+1how so?
