- snotrokit, on 10/10/2007, -36/+212the real news is that 3 people actually bought Zune's
- danc4498, on 10/10/2007, -7/+152Damn I love woot!
- potentato, on 10/10/2007, -2/+116the real news story here is the leak of the exciting new beets.woot.com!
- Celeron, on 10/10/2007, -3/+79※ Gotta love Woot's humor. They always manage to spice up their products by making a mockery of it.
- bightchee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+54One day, one root vegetable.
- doctorcaligari, on 10/10/2007, -9/+59Ummm...by offering a half-assed discount for a future purchase, thereby giving you the ILLUSION of getting your money back. The letter looks like it was copied from Apple's iPhone statement word-for-word. It's very tongue-in-cheek.
- adml_shake, on 10/10/2007, -21/+67Proud owner of a Zune right here. I had an iPod, but wanted to try something else. I don't see why so many people hate on the thing.
- yubbob, on 10/10/2007, -23/+62Sounds to me like they're mocking Microsoft and the fact that nobody is buying the Zune. *shrugs*
- spritom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+39"After reading every one of these emails, or at least scanning their subject lines"
nice! - GraceHead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+37Bears ... beets ... battlestar galactica
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -8/+42There are people who bought Zunes and are delighted with their purchase. My problems with the Zune deal with it's inability to just work with Macs and the Zune Marketplace forcing people to buy large quantities of points instead of just charging by the purchase. The hardware itself is solid.
Competition is a good thing and I welcome the next Zune. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33Woot is indeed the best E-commerce site since eBay. They have figured out a way for you to actually have fun spending money..on useless/refurbished/off-brand crap! Brilliant!
- Electric_Sheep, on 10/10/2007, -4/+33Welcome to the Social.
- subliminalurge, on 10/10/2007, -3/+31They didn't lose *****.
On the day they made the purchase, they decided that the product was worth $599 and that they were willing to pay that price. In exchange, they got the product that they desired. End of story. Nothing lost. - saifatlast, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29People are only digging you up, because of the weird symbol at the beginning of your post.
(And also because they agree with you.) - plucas, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26I love how they're willing to go as far as to spend money on this joke.
- PAJK, on 10/10/2007, -7/+31Woah, sorry Balmer.
- mateo60, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24The Zune is a really nice piece of hardware, especially when it came out. From eveything I hear, the software is a different story (i've never played with the software though). I'm sure it suits many peoples needs just fine though. Especially since it's freaking $130 now, wow. I personally want a major player besides Apple to keep developing better mp3 players, its better for everyone.
But really, its just fun to pick on Microsoft. - sexybobo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19I know they got my $5.03 the last 3 days on http://sellout.woot.com I don't need 6 usb video capture cards or 3 more keyboards but at $.01 a peice you cant go wrong.
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16I"m pretty sure no one is spared in this one :D
Totally captured Jobs' tone though. - EXreaction, on 10/14/2007, -6/+22Oh come on, everyone buries the guy because he didn't know that they copied what Apple did?
Damn, not everyone follows Apple's every single move and letters. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Uh they sold out early this morning... Apparently the price drop was enough to spur their sales.
- djphatjive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+20Good, stupid Apple crybabies! The Razr was $500 when it first came out, now you can get it for free. What did they expect.
- Katana314, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Nice letter. I love the jab at how consumers "don't realize" a lot of things. I know most consumers will "feel offended"...but, y'know what? No matter what you say, it's true.
- eschatonik, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16A fool and their money are soon partying
- paulmike3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Geniuses, genius. :P
- yubbob, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Hmm... I thought they sold something like 1 million in 70-something days. That's pretty good if you ask me. $500-$600 a pop? That's some serious cash right there.
- darkism, on 10/10/2007, -11/+24That's what I got too. The genius is that the letter can go both ways so Microsoft fanboys think it's a slam on Apple and normal people see it as a slam on Microsoft.
- snotrokit, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Just for the record, I have a Samsung 4gig flash player that I love, and that I can sync with whatever I want, Windows, Linux, whatever. I won't buy an iPod with what Apple is doing, and pretty much won't buy into anything that tries to lock me down to a certain chunk of software/hardware/OS/etc.
- MasteRR, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Hardware wise it is a very good player. A Zune is really a rebranded Gigabeat with a wifi chip. The problem with it is because Microsoft crippled it, as they do with many of their products, to the point where it is no longer desierable. The Rockbox guys have been wanting to port their firmware over to the zune for a while now but they have not gotten past the firmware DRM yet. If they do then expect the Zune to become one badass player. It may not have touchscreen, but if it wasn't for the firmware DRM the Zune could have been a badass player. Just think of the applications once open source meets the wifi chip in there. Sync and download over wifi, streaming shoutcast/icecast. VoIP, and so much more.
- davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12http://www.apple.com/hotnews/openiphoneletter/
- VulnoX, on 10/10/2007, -9/+20Oh ho ho! You are so clever!
Then again you may be serious seeing as the reach of most peoples actual knowledge on PMP's does not go beyond Apple's lineup. - zeejay, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11So is the funny part that letter, or the fact that Zunes are being liquidated for $129?
- VulnoX, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15I want to buy a Zune BECAUSE of Apple's newest iPod's. I know it may be hard for someone so in love with Apple as you to understand, but the new iPod's are not new at all, and the one that is is a joke. I have someone ready to buy my 5th gen iPod and I just need to find a new player. I am leaning towards either a Zune or a Creative Vision W because both offer larger screens, much cheaper prices, FM tuners, and the creative supports more audio and video formats than the Zune and iPod combined.
There are tons of reasons not to get a new iPod, I am trying to figure out why anyone would buy them, the only exception being the 160GB iPod because I am sure one or two people might need that much space. Otherwise, there are much better options out there... - chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12His was real. Look it up. Some company released an MP3 played called i.Beat blaxx
http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/24/trekstor-showca ... - Scienceisfun, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I'll only buy one if it comes with Reversi.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10I haven't seen a lot of iPods break myself, I still have a 1st gen that works fine and I used daily up until I bought an iPhone. I also have an iPod mini I bought a few years ago for my fiance, that has worked fine the whole time as well... what exactly do you mean by "fix" them since there are no user serviceable parts?
- edwartica, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10A fool and their money are soon parted.
- Terc, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10That's the first and last time you'll ever hear that.
- tavio, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I love my zune, and still use it after buying the iphone.
- ericdano, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9True enough, but after you actually use and own one, you don't regret it.
- AdHaR, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9"...but after a while it's pretty easy to do everything you want."
Time is the factor here. Did you find it real easy to do everything when you first fired up that piece-of-crap iTunes? - kageki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7This letter was pure comic genius.
"First, I need to make a better effort to hide my email address."
I'm glad I wasn't drinking milk when I read this letter. - BossKey, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9I'm shocked that this even made Digg's top ten. You're right, no one is spared with Woot. Woot consistently mocks the product, themselves, and their customers (and I am proud to be one). That letter was brilliant.
Sure, it's a parody of the iPod letter, but the fact is we're really watching unsold Zunes get blown out at a "we're so desperate we actually let Woot sell these next to their Vector rechargers, please buy one" clearance sale.
How is that a joke on Apple? - djhomeless, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Nice Deathrace 2000 Reference
- edwartica, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Yes, but considering that usually happens with brand new products, one should EXPECT it.
- Akaji, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Go away, Dwight.
- dropoutfilms, on 10/10/2007, -33/+39What the ***** is a Zune?
- Calcularius, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8I don't know of any other company that gives money back after a price drop, do you? That's standard on all of their products for 2 weeks after purchase.
- reed311, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Next thing you know, they are going to ask Apple to pay for the day off of work they took to wait in line all day for the iPhone.
