Why you shouldn't buy the iPhone 3G on Friday
tuaw.com — The 3G iPhone that goes on sale Friday, represents nothing more than last year's iPhone--that finally got delivered a year late.

- dcharti, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1So all the talk in past years about 3G chips being too battery, Apple picking up a new chip within the last year, and the fact that Gizmodo did the research to find that all other smartphones (especially 3G) need data plans that cost at least $30 means absolutely nothing now? I owned a BlackJack (3G) in Denver for a while and had to pay $50 for data even though we didn't have 3G in the Denver area.
$30 for 3G data on the first phone with a browser that doesn't suck is more than worth it. - glynor, on 07/08/2008, -1/+0Agreed completely. I don't understand at all what some people are complaining about.
I bet when the thing actually comes out and it sells like hotcakes, people will be falling all over themselves talking about how genius it was. - basye, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Erica tells it like it is--TUAW's Apple fanbois can't stand hearing the truth, heh.
- tokeio, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Nothing to see here with the 3G iPhone. I never had any problems with Edge. When I owned a Blackjack which supported 3G you get an extra battery in the box... because it lasts about 4 hours. I don't see what the big deal is about 3G. To me it's about the OS. Apple rolling out iPhone OS v2.0 to ALL iPhones is key here. What Apple should have done is not roll out v2.0 to existing iPhones and force people to upgrade if they wanted the latest and greatest. This is what they do with their iPod line all the time.
I personally will not be upgrading to the 3G iPhone because having to pay $30 for data and another $5 for 200 text messages is highway robbery. I already pay $20 a month for the same thing just a little bit slower. - mrgermy, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0You know. . . a few years ago (2001-2003) I was an apple fanboy but since then. . . . I don't really go ape ***** when someone writes an article like this. Its easy enough to get sucked into the hype and an article like this makes you say "well. . .good point, thanks".
Even so there are those of us (not me) who have to have the latest and greatest so this will (obviously) still sell damn well. I won't be leaving my blackberry until I can at least copy and paste on the iPhone.
