Why We Wait In Line for iPhone 3G and You Are Inferior
peoplejam.com — While waiting in line this weekend at the Apple store I was shocked by the questions posed by passers-by to the line-elites. It was as if we'd crash landed on a Planet of the Apes, where only I and my fellow line-warriors had any conception of modern technology, civilization, and the messianic glory of Father Jobs and the Apple Trinity.

As opposed to Bill Gates, who just ***** money. - theradical, on 07/15/2008, -4/+25you misspelled morons.

- Monk22, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1yeah well your a beaner towel
- ptsuk, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2You're either a apple zealot or not. If you are you wait in line, if you're not then you wait until the price drop months later.

- pjmalone, on 07/15/2008, -4/+6not in anyway funny .. sad elitism which I think may have been an attempt at tongue in cheek humour but failed ... the poster is a boor who incorrectly believes that the iPhone is advanced technology..
how does this crap make front page ... ? - MtheoryX, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2If you mean your comment...no, it's not.
If you mean the article...it's not funny either.
WTF? It's almost an Onion post...but not nearly as funny (as if the Onion posts funny stuff anymore).
Burried for obvious iPhone hyping.
- pnunn, on 07/14/2008, -22/+13So weird how suddenly on Friday so many people hid their ipods in their pockets and acted like people were "geeks" (suddenly- as though they hadn't been acting all year long like the apple brand is some form of fashion-victim computing- a notion which couldn't be more opposed to the jock-like remarks heard all over on Friday) for lining up to buy it...
Can't help but wonder how many people with "more important things to do" would have changed their tune if they could have afforded one...
As for me, I had to work and I don't really "do" launch days so I let it pass without lining up- but I'll be picking one up with a smile on my face in the next couple of weeks. As for those of you who lined up- Congrats on your new purchase and enjoy the backhanded envy of every person who would rather scorn you than admit they want something they can't have... Sorry it's that way- but I imagine the iphone will comfort you enough that... well.. you don't give a rat's ass!- dvsbastard, on 07/15/2008, -2/+24The way some people go on about it, you would think that the iPhone is some super exclusive status symbol that only a select elite of society has access too...
It is just another consumer product (albeit a good one), and you are just a product of marketing...- pnunn, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Messianic implications for the apple devices notwithstanding-
Aren't we all the product of marketing whether we buy that or a blackberry or a car or food or a video game system or shoes or clothes or (should I keep going)? Where do these people live and conduct business that are beyond the reach of marketing and do they have pet unicorns? Or perhaps a dragon?
I am always so curious why Apple gets so much ***** for being good at marketing the products they exist solely to sell. Working in a design house, marketing is kind of what we do- and I think it'd be pretty cool to have a branding and marketing as successful as Apple's for ANY company. Is it like an "I used to like Nirvana before they got huge" thing or something?
- pnunn, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Messianic implications for the apple devices notwithstanding-
- Velnich, on 07/15/2008, -0/+11I won't downplay how awesome it probably is, but in the end, it's just a really really cool tool that the phone companies are using to rape your wallet bloody.
If you are already getting raped by your phone company for roughly the same amount, congrats on this fashionably functionable step up.- pnunn, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1I can't remember when I wasn't getting raped by a phone company- from At&t to Sprint to good old Southern Bell back in the day. At&t suck- but the coverage is good here and I was on Sprint for 4 years and they made me want to claw out my own eyes.
- d686, on 07/15/2008, -1/+7pnunn: nice rationalization... so the only people who could afford the iphone waited in line and now own one and everyone else is just jealous? damn. someone tell apple, cause i'm pretty sure they expect to sell a bunch more of them to people who bizarrely think they can survive just sans iphone 3g even though it is available. (did i just blow your mind?)
- pnunn, on 07/15/2008, -3/+1Not really- frankly I don't even think you were responding to me- my point was not to do with anything you appear to be congratulating yourself for. To spell it out for you:
It just seems like people are being really weird about being so eager to trash people for lining up. People do it for every other product but suddenly everyone who did it on Friday were geeks. Yes- it seems like sour grapes from a lot of them to me. Yeah, I do think Apple expect to sell a lot more of them. Judging solely from Digg's obsession with the topic- let alone the rest of the world, I would expect they will. I have little doubt that many can and will survive without an iPhone. SO MANY of those people didn't feel the need to show up and make fun of people for lining up that I can't help but think they would not have anything to do with what I was talking about.
As far as "rationalization" goes- I don't think that word means what you think it means. Those who could give the time and money to be there Friday did. Others didn't. Good for everybody- why are people like yourself so bothered by it? Do you get mad when people line up for the latest greatest gaming console too? I just don't understand why people like yourself feel so angry and bothered about it... having so many better things to do and all... I don't have to rationalize anything because I didn't get in line nor do I feel the need to justify thinking it's "ok" if people did.
(Did I just blow your mind? Should somebody call Apple?) - Monk22, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3"It just seems like people are being really weird about being so eager to trash people for lining up. "
becuase its just a ***** phone. we think its hilarious you wait in line to buy a consumer product produced in the millions. just wait till the next day and get one sans the 7 hour line dumbass. - pnunn, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Can you read? I wasn't there- I don't have an iphone and probably won't have time to get one for a couple of weeks. And you misspelled "because"... Sure, I'm the dumbass- and you didn't support my point in every way about the very line you copy pasted from a comment you clearly didn't understand. Surprise- another digger that showed up with their opinion formed and commented without reading what they were commenting on. I'd bet money you never read the article either. ***** retard.
- pnunn, on 07/15/2008, -3/+1Not really- frankly I don't even think you were responding to me- my point was not to do with anything you appear to be congratulating yourself for. To spell it out for you:

- Table16, on 07/14/2008, -14/+20I like this article because it's true. Kind of the same way around Black Friday when all those people wait in line at stores all night and people ask them why they are in line.
If I had money to spend, and AT&T service, and 3G support where I live, I would have definitely went and waited in line for one. But guess what, I don't have any of those things. So I get to see everyone else with one. Why does God hate me.....- subliminalurge, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4He's punishing you for your lack of iPhone ownership.
- Omis, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5Not really the same as Black Friday. That's a one day sale and supplies may be limited. The iPhone will still be out the next week and for the same price. So why wait weeks in advance for one? These are pretty much the same people that camped out a week before the launch of the original iPhone, then cried when apple cut the price a few months later.
- 1kewldude, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1it's not just you dude - Slayer sings it best in their song "Disciple"
I'll show you what I've known all this time - God hates us all
http://www.lyricsdownload.com/slayer-disciple-lyri ... - Squidwalk, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1I've waited in Black Friday lines before, but it was because I wanted to buy something affordable for a great price for another person. But the people in line for the iPhone release are there to buy something expensive for the same price as usual for themselves. I'm sure there's crossovers, but most people have radically difference reasons and goals in the two situations.
Now if they said, "I'm in line here because 3G iPhones are going to sell out very quickly," then it would make sense.
- skewl, on 07/14/2008, -20/+31I love my iPhone more than any gadget I’ve ever owned. Frankly, I can’t imagine being without it. That said, the 3G model isn’t as compelling an upgrade as I had anticipated. So I’ll be sitting on my gen 1 device for a bit to see how things play out.
- Andrew_06m, on 07/15/2008, -2/+4Yeah I feel the same way - nothing really that compelling to warrant an upgrade. But I chose to do so anyway because my gadget needs are insatiable. I think it feels better in the hand(opinion), the 3G is WAY fast, and the GPS is spot on. Other than that it's the same damn thing in a different case.
- Radan, on 07/15/2008, -2/+8Well, it was actually a bigger change for us Europeans who couldn't even buy one before. Going from a hacked G1 iPhone with EDGE with the speed of maybe 200kbit/s to a 3G enabled iPhone with speeds of 3-7Mbit/s was a big upgrade for me.
Also, the utterly retarded headphone jack that the old one had, was by itself enough reason to buy a new one. - Evilena, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2I agree. I feel my 1st generation iPhone is a better deal than the newer model. 3G speeds would be nice for the rare times I am outside of a wifi zone, but not worth an extra $10 a month. The where am I button seems to work just as well as GPS inside a city. Mine is a year old now and I am keeping it until it breaks or Apple releases a model with new features that I find useful.
- qetuo, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1Good for you!
- shauncorleone, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1If they release a 2.5-gen iPhone with 32GB and A2DP, I would be willing to overlook other qualms I have (copy/paste, removable battery, etc) in light of all the positives. As it stands, Android still looms not far in the distance.
- HoratioHellpop, on 07/15/2008, -2/+3You can't imagine being without it?
Good lord ... how did humans ever exist before cell phones?
Incredibly retarded world view. - Charlesbian, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1Horatio,
i dont know about never being able to LIVE without it, but the circumstances for most professional U.S. workers is vaaaaaaastly different than previous generations in human history. What high paying job doesn't require almost immediate communication, productivity, and large amounts of information these days, something the iphone can provide. Humans existed before because our jobs didn't require such things, the tasks at hand only required spears and loincloths.
Maybe humans don't need it for basic survival, but to maintain the lifestyle we are accustomed to, and the economy/industry the nation is accustomed to, then yea, its pretty essential.
don't judge people's situations so offhandedly
- grey580, on 07/14/2008, -21/+11hehe. i would of answered like this.
What are you waiting in line for?
-for an iphone.
Why are you waiting in line for a phone?
-Why aren't you waiting in line for an iPhone?
Won't iPhone 3G still be available next week?
-Yes
How long have you been waiting in line?
-Counting the passing of time is for lesser mortals to deal with.
What's the difference between iPhone 3G and the original iPhone?
-Here let me show you on my old iphone.
Can I buy your spot in line?

- john2kx, on 07/14/2008, -16/+142What are you waiting in line for?
- to be fleeced by AT&T
Why are you waiting in line for a phone?
- because I like being the beta tester guinea pig of questionable launch hardware.
Won't iPhone 3G still be available next week?
- (no response, just a recently vacated spot in the line)
How long have you been waiting in line?
- just a bit less than the the guy in front of me, and a bit more than the guy behind me.
What's teh difference between iPhone 3G and the original iPhone
- it's newer. And faster, maybe? I dunno.
Can I buy your spot in line?
By helping maintain this enormous line, i'm doing you a favor by indirectly discouraging you from wasting your money on something that will be put to shame by another device within a month or two.- sluggysan, on 07/14/2008, -27/+6Within a month or two? Right, because the last iPhone came out about a year ago and it got eclipsed by a ton of phones inbetween now and then... oh wait... it didn't.
- bumblefoot, on 07/15/2008, -1/+7erm, yes it did
- 1gunners4, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3The iPhone was arguably eclipsed before it even came out: the new iteration's main upgrades are a 3G network and real-time GPS, both of which are things that the Helio Ocean has had since before the iPhone was released, with the only advantage the iPhone has over the Ocean being that it has a larger screen.
- bluechips23, on 07/15/2008, -7/+15Wait for BlackBerry Thunder to come out in fall. iPhone fan boys will wet their pants.
- Focher, on 07/15/2008, -12/+3I'll take that bet. Say what you want about BlackBerry devices, but I've never heard of one causing envy.

- wolferz, on 07/15/2008, -14/+3I'm sorry but did you just claim that a black berry would be better... than anything else... ever?

Blackberries are failed attempts at merging PDAs with cellphones... It fails at being a PDA... or a cellphone. - PhishTahko, on 07/15/2008, -4/+2Dominant market share would like a word with you.
- bcclist, on 07/15/2008, -6/+1this list is almost as lame as the original story. though, i will admit on Saturday that i got all those questions (outside of buying a spot) while waiting in line on michigan ave. my favorite was a 15 year old red headed chick that needed to be heard so she loudly exclaimed in front of her hillbilly mom - to the whole block - "I can't believe these retards are waiting in line for a phone!" she would have had a point if she said it passing in a normal tone. but, by the time she got to shouting the word "waiting," she realized she was the retard. her face turned as red as her hair. funny.
- Squidwalk, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1Your:
"Why are you waiting in line for a phone?
- because I like being the beta tester guinea pig of questionable launch hardware."
part reminded me of what happened when my best friend bought a MacBook Pro on launch day. 4 months later the Pros had twice the RAM, .33Ghz faster, and draft-n support. He's still pissed. Early adopting with Apple is an expensive idea.
- sluggysan, on 07/14/2008, -27/+6Within a month or two? Right, because the last iPhone came out about a year ago and it got eclipsed by a ton of phones inbetween now and then... oh wait... it didn't.

two weeks later, apple will drop the price for 299 and i don't even have to wait in line.- superkendall, on 07/15/2008, -3/+12Since the price is already $100 lower than that, you hit the party kind of late buddy.
- sixlaneve, on 07/15/2008, -2/+4yea, I am inferior...

- str3ama, on 07/15/2008, -2/+12I like technology or else I wouldn't be here on Digg, but personally I don't see the point in waiting in line for an item I know I can get in a few days time without having to go through the crap that those staying in line are subjected to. I can't emphasize how much I HATE crowds, and if it means waiting a few days to avoid them I'm all the more happy to do so.

- alexkehr, on 07/15/2008, -2/+6After being in line for hour, I really wanted to leave. But I figured that I had just wasted an hour of my life so I couldn't turn back. - YancyFryJr, on 07/15/2008, -2/+12Take solace in the fact that the money you spend on an iPhone today will finance the vastly improved iPhone that I buy three years from now.

- jisrael, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2don't worry, we'll buy that phone too...
- mrdjames, on 07/15/2008, -14/+19Ummmmm, it's an iphone. The Samsung Instinct pretty much kicks it's ass, unless you're married to the Mac Logo and think that just because it's an iphone you're cool. An Iphone doesn't make you cool, understanding technology does.
Why do you think Mac's still have less than 5% of the market?- mannymix03, on 07/15/2008, -4/+9because the instinct has done so much to kill the iphone, Last I saw on the news they were talking about the "2nd generation of Apple's groundbreaking touch phone" (Direct quote BTW) not about the instinct which the only people who bought were people stuck with sprint (I was at that point once) and realized that its possible the best phone they offer, not to mention the browser is abysmal and it has a $100 dollar a month plan to get the unlimited Data and GPS and other stuff in addition to your regular plan.
I own an iphone but don't consider myself a fanboy as there are plenty of problems with the iphone and i will be the first to point them out, but for now its still king and those who say otherwise are just delusional because they either hate apple or they own the other phone and are trying to defend their purchase. - Focher, on 07/15/2008, -7/+4Understanding technology doesn't make you cool either.
I had a 1G iPhone and loved it from the start, but really appreciated each new piece of functionality with each software update...along with the apps that were released for jailbroken phones. I expect the same from my second gen iPhone.
As for your 5%, you can drive your K car. I'll take the Porsche, despite that it has a much smaller market share.- birdman14, on 07/15/2008, -5/+4buying apple products is not the same as buying as a Porsche, it's the same as buying a prius (you think you're different and cool and helping some unknown greater cause when you're actually making it worse)
also understanding technology DOES make you cool. - kraetos, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1What, exactly, am I worsening by buying a Mac?
- dezholling, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1First of all, I would say most Apple customers don't buy Apple products to support a "cause". Second, how is buying a Prius "making it worse"?
- birdman14, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1it worse for the environment because of all the processing and transportation costs required in making the batteries. A prius actually causes more harm to the environment than a hummer does in being built

- birdman14, on 07/15/2008, -5/+4buying apple products is not the same as buying as a Porsche, it's the same as buying a prius (you think you're different and cool and helping some unknown greater cause when you're actually making it worse)
- koko775, on 07/15/2008, -2/+5Because they are concerned more with changing computing than maximizing their share of the market. That 5% you quote is enough to sustain them. I use OS X, Windows XP+Vista, and Linux (Ubuntu) alike. Many of the good points of those came about on their own, but there are also things that Apple pushed into the mainstream. They were the first to push for USB in earnest (or have you forgotten that the first iMac lacked serial ports and pushed adoption of USB mice and keyboards?). They experimented with new GUI features (I like Spaces' equivalent in Compiz). They opened up a large untapped market for well-designed mp3 players. They woke sleeping giants -- phone companies -- and forced them to start innovating again, whether or not those companies cooperated with Apple.
Apple's done good in my book. You needn't antagonize their products; just use a better one. - MysticSavage, on 07/15/2008, -2/+1The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 will kick both their asses when it comes out in the next couple of months.
- kraetos, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1"Why do you think Mac's still have less than 5% of the market?"
Ignorance.

- edwartica, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5No kidding. I mean, life is too short to stand in line for a stupid phone. In the time some of these people spent, one could do a lot of good for there fellow man.
- Squidwalk, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1Thirded! I was working this last week, and this weekend. When I take off, I have more fun than waiting in lines and ***** in buckets. Buried as rich assholes acting big.
- edwartica, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5No kidding. I mean, life is too short to stand in line for a stupid phone. In the time some of these people spent, one could do a lot of good for there fellow man.
- ajwinder, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3Crap, it's sarcastic. And I had such a good post written up because the first half of that definitely sounded straight out of the mouth of the hyper-obsessed. Oh well, I guess thats, you know, how a good sarcastic piece would be written.
Oh yeah, and I'll count myself out of the crazy group since I just did direct-fulfillment through AT&T. And if it doesn't, well, I paid for a phone upfront that I won't get for a week. So I get to be in the "retarded" group on a technicality.- theradical, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3it's sarcastic...?
- ajwinder, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3Well, shoot, I have no clue anymore. In case it isn't sarcastic:
So in this story we've:
- Insulted foreign tourists as ignorant. Yeah, that'll pay down that big Californian debt.
- Insulted people in red states as ignorant. Yes, New Hampshire, you bastion of ignorance. And yes, Ohio, you're all full of ignorant people too. Floridians. Virginians. Excusing the huge list of states this encompasses (I think theres what like 11 true-blue states, but I'm just pulling this off the top of my head, we might be in the high-teens), this is the kind of BS that liberals pull all the time. Which is partially to blame for the last 8 years.
- Pigeon-holed everyone that couldn't understand a 5-hour wait for good ole American consumerism as technophiles illiterates. Yeah, thats reasonable.
- Assumed the future would be filled with truly evolved human life-forms. The kind that, instead of solving the problems of idiotic distribution methods and borderline-obsessive tendencies, instead devolve into line-dwellers and trend-obsessed mouth-breathers. Yeah, I saw Idiocracy too, and just couldn't shake the feeling of "God, if only we could be so blessed".
All this for a rant on people ***** on what they think is important. In the future, not insulting the other 99% of the world is probably a better path if you're pissed over people belittling the fringe.

- Mier, on 07/15/2008, -4/+2The only line I had to wait in was 5 deep and it was on Saturday. Still got my phone but as usual there are issues with startup.
People reporting issues with apps crashing after you sync the phone with itunes. So if you install an app do not sync again until they get a patch. LOL - unionaire, on 07/15/2008, -1/+7Waiting in line is a cultural thing. I think Americans love waiting in line the most.
- ProfessorFoo, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3We really do.
- j2002, on 07/15/2008, -2/+8Surely this guy is taking the piss - its too early in the morning for me to tell :
"We are honoring beauty, imagination, childlike wonder, and all that is pure and good in the world."
No.. you have turned brand loyalty into a lifestyle. I don't usually care when people do stupid stuff like this, I've done it as well, but "beauty, imagination, childlike wonder" - you're queuing up to buy an over priced phone!
There's nothing wrong with liking gadgets, but Hitler is to Gandi what the iphone is to "all that is pure and good in the world".
You are living in my personal hell so I have to feel sorry for you but reading that, I just cant- j2002, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Uncharacteristically I felt I ought to apologuise, the iphone isn't as bad as hitler. It just makes me angry that there are so many vacuous people is the world. Its just a status symbol and one that only appeals to other similarly vacuous people.
- AmusedToDeath, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Did it ever dawn on any of you that someone might just want to buy it because they think it's a good product. I don't own an Mac and I'm certainly not an Apple fanboy, but after playing with the demo iPhone 3G at the store it was clear that it was the most *usable* (albeit not the most powerful) smartphone I've ever tried. Sure the "all that is pure and good in the world" nonsense is hyperbole, but why does it make me vacuous to want to buy a product that seems to work better than the other alternatives?
- j2002, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Uncharacteristically I felt I ought to apologuise, the iphone isn't as bad as hitler. It just makes me angry that there are so many vacuous people is the world. Its just a status symbol and one that only appeals to other similarly vacuous people.
- Maximillan007, on 07/15/2008, -3/+7Nokia E90, the best there is! Full keyboard, FAST 3G, Wlan, everything you need from a cellphone with a decent batterylife.
I tested the iPhone, it really did nothing new or faster or better then any of my previous phones.. Ok, the safari browser was great and the touchscreen was fun for about 2 days until it got "old".. And when i bought the E90, i paid only for the phone. Still using my existing service provider that i have been using for the last 4 years. (I pay 20euros to use 3G for 24/7 with no extra costs and have a signal cover of 98% of the country, can you guess where i live ;D)- birdman14, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1u dont have to rub it in you freaking european.. lol im still stuck here waiting for the e71 ith North American 3g to get released so i can pay 30 dollars a month for 6GB :(
- Palaceguard, on 07/15/2008, -4/+2People want iPhone. AT&T wants contract and activation in store. Hence slow and long lines
- halexmar6, on 07/15/2008, -2/+9""It is the most advanced handheld device ever known to humanity and probably the universe.""
...so advanced that when u receive images from inferior "devices" you have to memorize a ridiculous code (because the "device" is so advance copy and paste is for idiots) and enter it into a site to then finally view the image sent by inferior devices more primitive people use.
Also, you forgot to mention that "real GPS" is what has replaced traditional GPS....the difference?..."real GPS" is using cell(sorry for the primitive language) towers to give a position rather than...well, forget it.
Sincerely,
insomnia/boredom- birdman14, on 07/15/2008, -2/+3the iPhone has TRUE gps (also known as A-gps, it uses cellular data to make the satellite lock quicker)
but yah no mms doesnt make sense to me.. and the damn touch keyboard :S- VyRuZ, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2Wouldn't TRUE gps be... I dunno, just satellite?
I don't need no data plan for GPS on my Eten. - PilotHead, on 07/15/2008, -1/+0True GPS on the iphone=no turn-by-turn navigation
- birdman14, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1the iphone can do JUST Sattelite too, it would just take longer to load. Thats what A-gps is, it uses the network for assistance and doesnt HAVE to have it
- VyRuZ, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2Wouldn't TRUE gps be... I dunno, just satellite?
- xNIBx, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1Agps is superior to normal gps, because it uses satellites AND cell phone towers to lock the signal faster, that's why many modern gps devices use it. It is true that iphone is inferior compared to other phones in the market from many aspects. Disadvatnages like these, crappy camera without flash and autofocus, cant draw videos, cant use extra memory storage(soon we will have dirt cheap 32mB sdhc), locked bluetooth so you cant send/receive files(apple hates your freedoms), no copy/paste, no mms, no videocalls, no tvout, no 7.2mbps speed, etc. The only advantage of the iphone is it's interface, although htc's touchflo is fairly similar.
Personally i dont think the interface is much of an issue, since i can do everything that i want with a conventional interface and do it fast too. Flashy interfaces are just that, flashy, cool, etc. From a usability point of view, the advantage is almost non existent.
If you are willing to sacrifice the beauty of iphone's interface, get omnia. It is far superior from every other point of view. And hell, you might be able to use a similar custom interface since it uses an "open" OS(windows) which can be tweaked as far as you want.
- birdman14, on 07/15/2008, -2/+3the iPhone has TRUE gps (also known as A-gps, it uses cellular data to make the satellite lock quicker)
- mgill3, on 07/15/2008, -6/+1Whoo hoo! I waited in line, about 3-4 hours only to enter the store at appx: 10:15PM (45 min to closing time) and to have the AT&T activation server go down as soon as I finally entered the store (I'm very lucky)... so I got to stand there, and LOOK at my new iPhone 3G box sitting there on the table laughing at me, and I had to leave, thats right, I had to LEAVE without my iPhone because they couldn't activate it... no worries though, came back the following morning and didn't have to wait in line. To anybody that doesn't think its worth it, or doesn't think the iPhone is any good, I seriously suggest you try it out.
iPhone > Phones with primitive user interface - internalEr0r, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=ip ... a wee bit old, but still has a valid point, but hey I'd get an iPhone too if it didn't make me a hypocrite, make me drown in debt, and make me think I'm better the other people because I have the newest out of date gadget.
- nmanguy, on 07/15/2008, -3/+5http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=ip ...
Need I say more? - kroni, on 07/15/2008, -3/+4I would not wait in line for buyin a iPhone, I could not stand the shame of being so stupid as losing so much time to actually drop money for a piece of ***** equipment. Is just a ***** phone, get over it, is not like is going to make you life better, get you laid with chicks, make your ***** huge, and the coolest kid in town. Get a life, not a ***** phone.
- ajwinder, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1digg it down, screwed up :P
- sixlaneve, on 07/15/2008, -2/+5this is sad...
- wildsnake, on 07/15/2008, -5/+1What a society. People want to stand in line and get an iPhone and they are judged? It's stupid to spend alot of money and stand in line for an hour at Disneyland to for a 5 minutes ride too
- ProfessorFoo, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2Hell yes they are getting judged. You can't get on a Disneyland ride without waiting for half an hour. You could go to the store a week later and get the iPhone. If you really need the new iPhone so badly the exact day it comes out, you need to go kill yourself. Ok ok... you can live, but just know that I am going to judge you.
- celer1ty, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1I'm still holding out for the hover board feature.
- kroni, on 07/15/2008, -2/+9I'm sure that the guys diggin' down comments against iPhone are fanboys that waited in line for hours all smelly and sweaty just to buy this piece of *****... get over it, is a ***** phone and does not supply your lack of real life, you are not special by having one... is like the Juanitas and Tyrones on their damn Scalades thinking they are the *****... well, they are *****, not the *****... you, iPhone owner too, you are *****
- Swathe, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3Inferior? Yeah I am so cut my Windows Mobile device can do way more than the iphone will ever be able to do. Overhyped gimmick.
- benchwarmer, on 07/15/2008, -2/+1can i have your number?
- enzomedici, on 07/15/2008, -4/+11
Anyone waiting in line for an iPhone is a complete loser. - mgill3, on 07/15/2008, -9/+1While some people are busy bashing the iPhone or why you shouldn't wait in line for it, or why it's no good, or why [X] product is better and/or cheaper.
I'll be:
-Getting my work schedule whenever, wherever on our corporate intranet 100% up to date.
-Driving around with the GPS telling me how to get to my next location while playing some music through the AUX jack at the same time.
-Chillin in the airport, while most would be bored, I'll be surfing the intarwebz.
-Watching the latest episode of Mind of Mencia, Diggnation, or some other podcasts.
-Getting my push emails instantly and being connected.
-Watching BlackBerry users scroll their little pearl thingy 100x to find something on their little screens with block-text style primitive software.
The damn thing only costs $199, and its a standard AT&T rate plan which is actually pretty reasonable along with the roll-over minutes. But you guys will still find a reason it's "too expensive" or some other *****.
Anything with an Apple logo MUST BE BAD, right? Give it up already.- exeprime, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2"Anything with an Apple logo MUST BE BAD, right?"
Yes.
And I think you also have an apple logo.- mgill3, on 07/15/2008, -1/+0ooh.. clever.
- ProfessorFoo, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2Right now the main reason people are getting made fun of is for waiting in line for it. Instead of wasting hours of your life to get the latest iPhone, just go a week later.
Also... Mind of Mencia? OK I hate you now.- mgill3, on 07/15/2008, -2/+0Right, because the only way to waste hours of your life is to wait in line for an iPhone.
- bumblefoot, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1you missed shooting your load over the electrical device you appear to have fallen in love with, hate to break it to you but most smart phones have had the ability do do all that since 2003 ;-)
- mgill3, on 07/15/2008, -2/+0No ***** sir, but not nearly as well, and with tiny screens ;-)
Plus none of those even count anymore, they're all primitive compared to iPhone which runs a real operating system.
- mgill3, on 07/15/2008, -2/+0No ***** sir, but not nearly as well, and with tiny screens ;-)
- exeprime, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2"Anything with an Apple logo MUST BE BAD, right?"
- gaccs, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1The following comment was posted at the original article but I really doubt that it's ever gonna get past the moderation.
You forgot another popular question:
Don't you have anything better to do?
But then again I'm sure you'll find something clever to write as an answer to the question above, fully rationalizing your gullible attempts at giving meaning to your otherwise meaningless existence by waiting in line for a hand held device.
Cheers! - jonatne, on 07/15/2008, -2/+3This just ins't that funny.
