- klang, on 10/12/2007, -4/+64..let's face it. It's just a speed bump and a new size of screen. A Steve Jobs presentation would contain what?
They have something lined up that makes for a better show, that's all. - noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+31That's what I was wondering... Maybe Apple is just taking one thing off of people's list of speculation for this "Showtime" event to build suspense.
This seems like it might end up being bigger than we originally all thought it would be. - Universal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29That's how they released the MacBook, surprisingly.
Sometimes good things happen unexpectedly. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Let's hope so. The last thing Apple needs is another embarrassment like the "event" that consisted of a $100 leather iPod sleeve and a speaker.
- klang, on 10/12/2007, -11/+30Fun new products, like a HiFi Speaker system or something like that!
- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21well what do you expect? the internet isnt a dump truck.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -9/+27Borninda, did you really need to so flawlessly answer the thread. Now what are we supposed to talk about? We like to get at least twenty comments to an article you know...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"even the live online feeds will be jammed... "
The live online feeds are always jammed - Rickard, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18I have my hopes up for a new $99 leather iPod case!
- SnakeO, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Jesus Christ!
I JUST bought an iMac (a week ago). What is apple's return policy? - Whosawhatsis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13To surprise us? To keep us on our toes? To make us ask questions like "Why Did Apple Introduce New Products Before September 12th?"
- borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -11/+24why not?
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11It's simple. The Mac PR geniuses don't want to waste any momentum on an incremental upgrade. They want you to load up your favorite tech site on 9/12 and see "Amazing new iPod!" not "Amazing new Apple products!" as the headline. They're very good at what they do.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14If not 64GB then 128GB .. pretty please
- Pharaoh777, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1564GB Metal Nano iPhone Video... oh please, oh please...
- Rolandami, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Mac mini is still to high, Imac $999 is a better deal
- mww2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It's possible that they didn't want to dilute coverage of whatever is happening on the 12th (movies?). Though that explanation isn't a great one, since Apple is certainly savvy enough to walk and chew gum at the same time.
- kdog181518, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14because the event is probably for something alot bigger
- MySchizoBuddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9No one forcing u to jump and down.
reason Dell news is not NEWS, is cause they update very frequently and have a million laptop and desktops brand with totally clueless uninspiring and boring names
Apple doens't have that many products anyway so each product launch, even incremental ones count. - thinkdifferent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I think you mean Core 2 Duo. The existing 'Books use the Core Duo. Although, I'll admit Core 2 Duo is the most redundant, is the most redundant name for a product I've ever heard. ;)
- tvashtar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@fireball74
Yes, but that's not what he said, he was talking about Core 2 Duos, not Core Duos.

http://www.intel.com/products/processor/core2duo/ - StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+714 days with 10% restock fee if I remember correctly
- 1shawn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's because new iPods are going to be announced on the 12th. Steve has to let some things out of the bag to build suspense for all us Apple heads.
- DrAtheist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8You bought a new mac less than two weeks before a keynote? Seems kind of foolish to me.
I'd just try returning it, worst they can say is no. I suspect you'll be covered under a standard 30 day return policy though. - NicP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The Mac Mini was upgraded.
- eurleif, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9PC is a proper noun now?
- asjk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"It's possible that they didn't want to dilute coverage of whatever is happening on the 12th The rumours are true."
Well that agrees with at least one news source that I read. Another stated that, like the iPod, an end-to-end solution will be rolled out. The demonstration will make the best use of the valuable media time to showcase the specific concept.
My expectations were lower until today's announcements. Note also that the event is to be streamed live from San Francisco to London. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"Mac mini is still to high, Imac $999 is a better deal "
600 hundred dollars is to high? What kind of computers do you buy? the non exsistent emachine computers? - geekdreams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Because Steve knows something you don't.
- hygraed, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13Well, I'll be damned.
http://www.apple.com/ipodhifi/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is how they like to keep all the Apple rumor sites guessing.
We might be getting 'one more thing' next week. - mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I doubt they'll have a core 2 macbook anytime soon. you'll have to sport the macbook pro for that one.
- klang, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8if not 64GB then 16GB .. pretty please
- mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4They just recently released a VESA mount for the iMac on the Apple store. It only works on the newest core 2 ones.
- rypaintD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You spelled it wrong. It's One More Thing TM
- geekdreams, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There haven't been live feeds of a Jobs keynote/special event in a couple years. The stream comes out in the afternoon following the event.
- thegsa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@t3hX
You Sir, Are A Douche!
Not ***** Cool. - redwire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Perhaps not bigger just diffrent and bound to fit in. The new 23" imac is wall mountable that tells you something.
I suspect they want to keep a theme at the 12th event and while the iMac is good with whatever it is, it might just be it doesn't fit in exactly so they brought it out before so they can reference it in the presentation without actually including it.
Lets just wait and see, I for one am just a bit wery of getting my own expectations so high with all the speculation I am reading then being disappointed because the reality can't actually match it. - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Unfortunately, every form of digital media has followed this. When Apple opened up the iTunes music store, separate deals had to made for each country that they wanted to allow access to. Copyright laws and all that. It's unfortunate that companies (not just Apple is involved) have to jump through these hoops to satisfy music copyright holders. It would much easier for the consumer if they could just go to one store, select their items, select their currency, and buy their product. maybe someday

New Mac mini specs: http://www.apple.com/macmini/specs.html
Doesn't feature anything that you mentioned... Still feel confident about there being "100% chance of the iPhone making a debut"? - canyonblue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3you couldn't be more wrong cpawl. the school season for computer is based around ONE thing... laptops. and apple has recently updated their entire laptop line.
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think you're F'd.
Welcome to the world of technology. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4sucks to be you
- SPThom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Seeing as the Mac mini was just a jump to Core Duo and not Core Solo, I'm not sure if this is even a "speed bump" so much as a means to clear out stock. I still suspect we could see a big update to the Mac mini next week, with Merom C2D chips and some media-friendly hardware upgrades.
My original thought was that a big Mac mini push would come around the time of Leopard, because core animation could make for a lot more/better FrontRow functionality... but we'll see. - geekdreams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You're sharing resources either way; it's better to use that extra processing power on the apps that need it. No point in running OS X at half-speed so that Outlook XP will have a single core to itself.
- curiouslyvague, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6erm, Macbooks have always been core duos. Mac minis are now all core duo- could that be what you meant? Either way, I'm still hoping for a merom macbook... could be unlucky for a while though...
- waynesun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Fingers crossed for new Pod, with the introduction of iTunes movie, and the "showtime"-themed card.
- JoJoWalker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In addition, by releasing the iMac a week early Apple got a week of free press about their new product that additionally mentions (in every blurb) that Apple is announcing more next week. One can not buy that kind of publicity. So in that regard, Apple scores a big hit. This can also be viewed as confirmation that the products/services that will be released next week actually work. It is pretty well accepted that the reason the last special event was so lackluster was that the item to be announced did not get finished in time and rather than announce a product without showing it in use, they pulled the product and gave the world the leather iPod case. Releasing the iMac early is just Apple raising the bet because they know they are sitting on a great hand.
- daGUY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This story isn't as exciting as it seems...Apple frequently releases new products right before a planned event in order to generate interest (i.e., "if they just released Product X, what could they POSSIBLY be unveiling at this event?").
The invitation they sent out simply says "it's showtime." I'm putting my money on movie sales through iTunes and (possibly) a refreshed video iPod. - anagami, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2You mean a 64 bit dual core Mac Cube and/or a 64 bit dual core MacBook Pro?
