- larryjr88, on 03/16/2009, -13/+109Mac Tablet? COMING SOON?!
Oh yeah, never heard that rumor before. Buried as duplicate. - ericdano, on 03/16/2009, -3/+52I wonder why when you click through you get an ad...........oh, right. Write something outlandish about Apple, put on digg, make sure first page is an Ad.......make profits
- Konnnan, on 03/16/2009, -2/+40It's Jim Cramer inflating stocks again! CRAMERRRRRRRRR!!!!!
- angusm, on 03/16/2009, -4/+39Today: Ohmigod! Apple's going to release a tablet! Tomorrow! And ... and ... and it'll be amazing ... and really cheap ... and it'll have all these cool apps! It's going to be amazing!
Tomorrow: Oh. Apple didn't release a tablet. They didn't say anything about a tablet.
Day after tomorrow: Apple's tablet is _late_! Is this the end for the troubled computer company? Sell! Sell! - williepepper, on 03/16/2009, -3/+34Time for Keynote Bingo.
I hear Steve himself will appear, he'll arrive via jetpack. - dullnation, on 03/16/2009, -2/+25Looks photoshopped because it is, simply to illustrate what it might look like.
- shadowspawn, on 03/16/2009, -2/+25It has a wheel.
- Balanced, on 03/16/2009, -2/+22Because talking about Apple rumors is serious business.
- thespiff, on 03/16/2009, -3/+19I'm sorry, I don't buy any of this crap about a tablet in Q3 based on screens they bought within the last few months. I work in high tech R&D. If apple can bring a new consumer product to market 2 quarters after it got hardware to the software dev team, at the level of quality that we've come to expect from apple, I will be shocked.
- asskicker32, on 03/16/2009, -1/+16I love how Apple rumors on Digg bring out the best in people.
- judicar, on 03/16/2009, -2/+16worst.mock-up.ever
- hove, on 03/16/2009, -1/+13Page views.
- tobsterius, on 03/16/2009, -1/+13Given Apple's recent decision to pull out of most, if not all, trade shows, they can announce the product whenever they please.
However, yes; I agree. They probably won't release such a product at such a small event like this. They would probably book a theater or something in SF like they do for the iPod announcements if they planned to release a tablet.
But Apple releasing 'big' products at small events like this isn't a foreign concept. Both the iPod and the iBook were released at media events held at the Apple campus. - inactive, on 03/16/2009, -1/+11Not a bad idea.
Does Apple make one? - InorganicMatter, on 03/16/2009, -1/+11Hope so, but please make it a full Mac OS X based system, and not a big iPod Touch.
- Commodus, on 03/16/2009, -8/+17I very much doubt Apple will have a tablet. They don't just announce a major new device category at a small event meant as a preview for a new OS. Apple's not going to launch a tablet that won't be ready until June at the earliest -- not without some fanfare.
- KingWulfgar, on 03/16/2009, -1/+10Apple is not going to introduce a new device for a niche market like tablet PCs at an event billed to be about iPhone 3.0 software. In fact, I'll go out on a limb and say that based on the way tablet PCs are NOT SELLING, Apple has no plans to make one at this time. Period.
This is one of the most stupid "Apple articles" I've ever seen and I can't believe over 300 people have dugg it. - jawbreaker4fs, on 03/16/2009, -3/+12That's probably the worst photoshop of a mac tablet I've ever seen.
- zodieman, on 03/16/2009, -1/+9A tablet?? Puh-leeze. I don't get those things. Even those tablet-PCs are not selling. What is it that makes people think Apple would be able to make that market take off?? Nope, this is about the new iPhone firmware, nothing more or less. So please just stop it about tablets already, it ain't going to happen.
- TheCash, on 03/16/2009, -6/+13Why do so many websites waste precious bandwidth speculating on far-flung possibilities?
- shadesuk, on 03/16/2009, -0/+7Why does everyone want apple to make a tablet? Tablets have been around for bloody ages and they only appealed to a few. Why do people think that slapping an Apple logo on one is going to change anything?
Other than a few gimmicks what would it offer over a laptop in terms of interface? - ryleyleckie, on 03/16/2009, -1/+8prepare to be buried. keep it continue.
- shwaa, on 03/16/2009, -0/+7They can test with prototypes and then order the mass-produced parts only when they're ready to start assembling. The fact that we just heard about the 10" screen orders doesn't mean that they're not a few months away from a release.
Generally you don't order everything before starting R&D. - ahpro, on 03/16/2009, -1/+8It's a software conference which they've already said will be about the iPhone 3.0 firmware. They won't release any new devices.
- HenryGifford, on 03/16/2009, -1/+8Oh yeah! Stupid iPods!
*Rolls eyes* - pgouy, on 03/16/2009, -1/+7With NO buttons !
- Darkyuubi, on 03/16/2009, -5/+11Lame.
"If not tomorrow, then soon hopefully."
If you have the balls to predict it, at least stand behind it. He obviously have no confidence in his statement.
Tablet, yes. Tomorrow, no. - BrianClio, on 03/16/2009, -1/+7k
- lepton, on 03/16/2009, -0/+6That is basically true but in Apple's defense that is how they do their alpha testing. They make some software internally, then invite a company or two that they can trust to keep their trap shut (which unfortunately tends to be the big corps) to work on the new, very very buggy stuff, very closely. Then when they have it at beta stage they let in the leakers, I mean the rest of the developers.
Annoying to me since I'm not a big corp, but I guess I understand. - Altotus, on 03/16/2009, -5/+11Because it's fun. It's fun because Apple's the only company that seems to be able to keep anything a secret. It's also fun because it's easy to keep score when you are right and wrong.
The non-Apple camp has a half-dozen competitors whose product lines are all similar, whose product lines are either unsurprising because their development are either well-known in advance, or are consistently boring or predictable enough that nobody cares. Finally, Apple's held to an entirely different standard -- you've got Windows / non-Apple zealots that can't stand the company, and everyone else expects all sorts of innovation and nit-picks every trivial UI flaw like a stray pixel was a rusty nail that shoots out of their products and into your hand.
That, and it's what they call in the industry "a slow news day". - inactive, on 03/16/2009, -5/+10Yes, of course it's just a rumor and probably not even a very sound one at that... but I'm just gonna let my inner fanboy out and tell you all that I would punch my mother in the throat for an Apple tablet.
- dullnation, on 03/16/2009, -0/+5They DO use photoshop to create a mashup of product photos from Apple's site to create an illustration ;P
- macmcraeart, on 03/16/2009, -3/+8I hope its demerol.
- effedup, on 03/17/2009, -0/+5a tablet? what is this, 2004? tablet's failed long ago.
- superkendall, on 03/16/2009, -0/+5Actually with the iPod, there were a lot of MP3 players but they were horrible to use, and (at the time of the first iPod) they took forever to load songs onto. The original iPod was a large leap over the devices of the day.
Now tablets on the other hand are fundamentally flawed as a platform, for general use. As noted tablets have never really appealed to people outside of a niche market, and a big reason is because they are not as useful as a laptop and not as portable as a mobile device. There's no innovating out of the limitations that tablets inherently have. - mohsenxp, on 03/16/2009, -0/+5You're correct, but wrong at the same time.
- alwaysmc2, on 03/16/2009, -2/+6duh! It was a joke.
- Taiyoryu, on 03/16/2009, -0/+4Someone who wants something more powerful than a PDA-enabled phone but not as powerful as a laptop, and having the best of both in one device and doesn't have to think about whether or not they should bring their laptop?
- rrife, on 03/16/2009, -0/+4Actually I think they're going to announce a new iphone, mac tablet, iPhone OS will be replaced with the Netwon OS, porn app store and a time machine that they'll use to go back in time and bring back a healthy Steve Jobs....like a late 80's early 90's version of him.
- mohsenxp, on 03/16/2009, -0/+4First off, Apple is a huge company.
A company doesn't just wake up one day and say 'oooh let's make a new product...'
Extensive (far more in depth than any blogger in his couch can carry out) market research is carried out. So rest assured, whatever Apple does release, there will be a market for it. - Balanced, on 03/16/2009, -5/+9Which one is that?
- Spamcan, on 03/16/2009, -0/+4It doesn't make a damn bit of sense to release a tablet with a stripped down OS. I mean Apple has had touch capabilities in the OS for years that have gone unused, not to mention trackpad gestured that can easily be translated to a touchscreen. Why people would actually want a 10" iPod Touch is beyond me, seems like it would just add another level of confusion and continue to excuse lack of development for the desktop version of OS X.
- hypografik, on 03/16/2009, -4/+8The iPhone is the "Tablet". Stop asking about it.
- akatsuki, on 03/16/2009, -1/+5I still don't get the appeal of the tablet computer... Generally too large to really be portable, handwriting is slower than typing. Just a lot of negatives except for specialized uses.
- xShad0w, on 03/16/2009, -1/+5Forgot the step "3.????" inbetween.
- Nosferotu, on 03/16/2009, -0/+4Because people only remember when you're right. If you're the one guy who makes some wild out-there prediction about Apple's next move, and you're the one guy who's right (because Apple loves to pull surprises out of their ass), you get to be an internet star for a day.
And if you're wrong? No one remembers, because being wrong about what Apple is going to do is par for the course, even for people who have good inside information (because Apple loves to pull surprises out of their ass). - ssavoy, on 03/16/2009, -3/+7Pricey? Apple? Clearly you have something mixed up.
/s - rawnnie, on 03/16/2009, -0/+4Not gonna happen.
- Nosferotu, on 03/16/2009, -1/+5But... but... the Apple gnomes work tirelessly in their little workshops with miniature wooden mallets to make all these millions of iPhones, don't they???
