- wisedude, on 06/05/2008, -6/+392KILL the Nintendo DS? Nintendo could stop selling it right now, and it'd still be one of the most successful devices on the planet for YEARS to come. Come on guys... Apple doesn't even have a chance at denting the Nintendo DS
- AceAMasta, on 06/06/2008, -5/+170*reads title*
*laughs* - CletusTSJY, on 06/05/2008, -8/+141When will people realize that nothing is going to kill any Nintendo product because Nintendo makes the best games in the world. The day Nintendo puts iMario Kart is the day that the iPhone may kill the DS. Until then, make calls on your phone, play games on your DS.
- ZenMojo, on 06/06/2008, -1/+128Apple won't even have a chance at denting the PSP, let alone the DS. Please.
- blobdole, on 06/06/2008, -5/+117Because if there is one thing that Apple truly dominates... it is gaming. Wait...
- Jenadae, on 06/06/2008, -3/+81For a site that is usually wise about market trends and all things money i must say this article is quite ridiculous.
- Kyrgizion, on 06/06/2008, -6/+80Article buried for HUGE *****. Seriously, making an outrageous claim is one thing, but Apple and gaming have a shallow bond at best - even if they have the technology, they don't necessarily have the know-how and mindset to make it succeed. Especially with Apple's tendencies to keep everything proprietary.
I'd like to see them try though. What'll we get, a 400$ POS with one button and smudgy touch controls? Please. - inactive, on 06/06/2008, -3/+77excuse me lol? Apple has no chance to kill the NDS anytime soon. compare the prices between ipods/iphones and the NDS and the ginormous customer base nintendo already has and you already have more than enough to dispel that theory.
- ZenMojo, on 06/06/2008, -5/+74The one thing that amazed me about those commercials was how they implied that PCs weren't about fun because of their massive business penetration.
Mac: "Hi, I'm a Mac."
PC: "And I'm a PC:
Mac: "So, I hear you've got that new Microsoft Office, I hear that's fun."
PC: "I hear you've got that upgraded port of Mass Effect. Oh, wait, no you don't; you're stuck with snakes and iTunes. Suck my dick, bitch, now excuse me while I go play some Call of Duty 4 with 63 other people." - z0mb13, on 06/06/2008, -5/+67HELLO I'M A MAC... AND I'M A DS. I can see it now *vomit*
- cyclopssmiley, on 06/06/2008, -3/+63Why isn't this under comedy?
- LordofChaosIori, on 06/06/2008, -6/+63Buried as inaccurate... and impossible.
- LordFortis, on 06/05/2008, -4/+50Apple would need a whole lot of 3rd Party developers...I don't think Super Monkey Ball is going to be a killer app, and I would assume people would rather play Spore on the PC.
Also, the iPhone and iPod touch are about three times as expensive as the DS, so you wouldn't be pulling in the casual gamer here. I think they'll sell games to people already with iPhones, but I don't think the demand for the iPhone will skyrocket just because it gets some games. Apple tends to release a new version of its products each couple of years whereas the DS has been our for 4 years and has really only undergone a stylistic change since. - sh4d0w4lk3r, on 06/06/2008, -2/+41There's no d-pad...and it's about the price of a next-gen console.
- estvir, on 06/06/2008, -2/+36Yeah, out of all Apple pipe dreams the delusional fanboys on Digg submit, this the absolute worst.
- sirbeta, on 06/06/2008, -16/+50Wow, really? iPhone/Pod kill the DS with flash games? These people need a reality check. Even if they made a whole API to directly interface the hardware for gaming purposes, it would not even dent the DS presence.
- inactive, on 06/06/2008, -2/+35I'm not playing games on a touch screen alone...
- Travis182, on 06/06/2008, -2/+34DS minus Mario and friends? Pass.
- DeathGod321, on 06/06/2008, -0/+29I can only imagine the DS guy having two heads for some reason.
- estvir, on 06/06/2008, -1/+26No matter what happens Apple doesn't stand a chance.
- Evi1d33d, on 06/06/2008, -1/+24They don't even have a chance with PC yet and people start to think about portables. They need to get their act together and get some games on their Macs first (native not bootcamp).
- latova, on 06/06/2008, -4/+27Its like saying Nintendo DS can kill the Iphone.
- Inflammo, on 06/06/2008, -2/+22Yeah I'm sure every little kid [a healthy part of the demographic] is going to throw away their DS, and ask Santa for an iPhone.
- 1town, on 06/06/2008, -3/+22Comment dugg for "HUGE *****"
- salvadorwii, on 06/06/2008, -1/+18why apple wont kill nintendo
http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2008/06/05/a ... - hexydes, on 06/06/2008, -0/+17Mac: "Hi, I'm a Mac."
Nintendo DS: "AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! WHY AM I ALIVE?!?!?!?!?!?" - Seidoger, on 06/06/2008, -1/+15Exactly. Nintendo has 20 years of portable gaming experience.
Nintendo and Apple both have the same blood in the sense that both are extremely known and recognized for their innovation in their own field. But i don't see any of them go try its luck on the others turf. - zapass, on 06/06/2008, -3/+16dugg again for noticing that indeed THE ***** is HUUUUUUUUUUUGE
- silentb0b, on 06/06/2008, -1/+14forbes is delusional.
- leonhyral, on 06/06/2008, -0/+13Buried it as inaccurate after I finished reading the title.
- TonyLocNE, on 06/06/2008, -2/+14Because the iPhone is going to change into a transformer with rocket launcher arms and destroy the Nintendo headquarters...? If that's what Forbes meant by the title, then yeah... possibly.
- Eira, on 06/06/2008, -2/+14It's not going to happen.
- Gndoab, on 06/06/2008, -4/+16well played.
- drakenlot, on 06/06/2008, -3/+14I used to respect Forbes for they're skill in the business world, but this is just ***** ridiculous!
The DS being beat by flash games? I mean, sure they are some pretty good flash games, but it's in no way going to make a dent into the GBA let alone the current handhelds.
Can I have what the author was smoking? I want to be delusional also! - Sairynn, on 06/06/2008, -2/+13Apple's couldn't even kill the Virtual Boy.
- JustinPM, on 06/06/2008, -1/+12Just imagine if the iPhone dispensed pure joy directly into your skull. It is a phone. Develop good applications instead of trying to expand into yet another market that you won't be able to make a dent in.
(ie. AppleTV) - Demitaka, on 06/06/2008, -4/+14Wow Digg ,you made me laugh...
- fyreboltx, on 06/06/2008, -5/+15Just like the PSP was supposed to kill the DS right (granted, the PSP did a lot of damage... but the PSP had a lot of support from developers)? And if software makes the system and if game support for Mac OS is any indication, this'll be one unfair fight.
- Shadowgamers, on 06/06/2008, -2/+12Oh Forbes, you clever bunch of trolls you.
- austin006, on 06/06/2008, -1/+11wow almost year late... i bet people are itching to buy it......
besides he said Mac doesn't have mass effect. get your eyes straight before YOU troll - Kajico, on 06/06/2008, -1/+11I wish analysts would stop making ridiculous predictions that are nothing more than troll bait for fanboys.
- Charlotte_Web, on 06/06/2008, -1/+11Apple iPod Touch: $299
Apple iPhone: $399
Nintendo DS: $129
They are selling to two different markets. The Wii became wildly successful, not only because of the motion sensor, but because it was hundreds of dollars cheaper than the competition.
Plus, the iPhone & iPod Touch don't have the traditional gaming buttons/joypad. Every game will be a touchscreen/motion sensor game. Even on the Wii, you don't see many games that are exclusively motion sensor.
The DS will still dominate with kids (whose parents don't want to spend $299 on an iPod) and hardcore gamers.
Also don't forget that hardware is only half of Nintendo's genius; the other half is the various franchises that they own. Mario will not be coming to an iPhone near you. No other game hardware company can boast as many in-house blockbuster franchises as Nintendo (Microsoft comes close). - SaladCactusKing, on 06/06/2008, -1/+12Digging this up from a Macbook Pro for intentional hypocrisy.
- elblinguino, on 06/06/2008, -0/+9If this is anything like the article that said that Mac is going to kill PC gaming, they must be putting out around 5 games for the iPhone.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 06/06/2008, -1/+10Yeah I am really gonna go out and get my 7 year old daughter a ipod touch
- sirbeta, on 06/06/2008, -0/+9My comment on flash was related to a quote that was found in the article.
- Murdats, on 06/06/2008, -4/+13@mmortal03
iMac, iBook, iLife, iDvd, iMovie, iPhoto, iTunes, iWeb, iWork, iPhone, iPod
with apple you are going to have to be more specific about products starting with i - Seidoger, on 06/06/2008, -3/+12'*****' and '*****' are words that go well together in the same sentence.
- Edrick, on 06/06/2008, -1/+9Not to mention the entire nation of Japan.
