Who is Providing LIVE Macworld Keynote Coverage?
uneasysilence.com — A list from UNEASYsilence of live coverage and blogging of the event.
- 1111 diggs
- digg it
- zixxer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3nice, its good to see we have some options now
- fiftyeggs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Haven't seen any word on the apple's own website about a webcast. will there be a live webcast like before?
- Greyarea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9They haven't done live webcasts for a while now. The bandwidth just isn't there to make it practical.
I imagine they'll post the streaming video of the event about 12-24hrs afterwards. - meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14That hasn't happened for at least three years. It could be that Apple were paying too much for bandwidth or, more likely, it could be because Apple likes to take a few hours to polish the video before they post it. Multiple camera angles, flashy graphics and picture-in-picture ftw!
- fiftyeggs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Thanks for the head up guys.
Your response was super fast. I Appreciate it. - Sandkat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apple does broadcast live, but only to Apple employees working at their main campuses in Cupertino, Austin, and Sacramento. Although I'm not sure about overseas in Europe and Asia/Pac.
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Question. Why doesn't Apple provide a Webcast like Microsoft do all the time? :S It's boring watching people write about it, I want to actually see what's going on!
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1AFAIK they stopped live streams a while back. One was provided by Apple a few hours after now
- ross., on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apple could at least do a streaming audio thing couldn't they? I'd settle for that...
- mishad7, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Duplicate story. Lame
http://digg.com/apple/List_of_all_LIVE_Macworld_Keynote_Coverages - rkettner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Somebody out of mainstream media used the word blogosphere? What's going on?
- deaper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5My guess is that apple loves having the press packed into their announcements. If they allowed the live stream it would likely cause less attention from gadget sites and other areas of the press both. First of all the "press" would be less likely to show up because they could watch the live broadcast and get their story from that. And second the "press" would be less likely to give as much attention to it because people would just watch the live stream to find out the news and therefore wouldn't need to hit f5 continually on engadget. Obviously bandwidth is likely another issue. But apple definitely likes a packed house for any keynote Steve does.
- mlp101316, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Microsoft did a great job of streaming Bill Gate's speech last night...
I'm sure Apple could handle it
- aryayush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Thanks for the link! I was scouting around trying to find all the sites that would be providing live coverage of the keynote. Thanks to you, it has been served to me on a golden plate. :D
- krolls, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Whatever happened to Apple webcasting the keynote live? That seemed to stop a few years ago? Does anyone know why?
- Greyarea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Bandwidth. Too much was needed, not enough was available. Plus you then ran into individual ISP bandwidth issues. They'll post the recording not too long afterwards I expect.
- drumnbass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm guessing it was just a bandwidth issue. As the iPod became popular, more and more people probably wanted to tune in and I doubt there was a way that Apple could (cost) effectively handle that much traffic (traffic is genuinely _massive_ during the keynote - most of the rumors and news sites simply die because of the pressure).
- Greyarea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What I'd like to know is why they don't make the event a downloadable movie file. It seems the ideal thing to stick on an iPod yet they insist on making you watch it via streaming QT. Odd.
- neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1You can download it, just get Quicktime Pro.
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Question about Digg behavior:
Why is it that a question is typically dugg down when answered? How is that helping anybody? - Greyarea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"You can download it, just get Quicktime Pro."
I've got Pro but you still can't download the stream. It's one of those rtsp: thingies.
- thatkidrich44, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2any place to watch the speech?
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Generally about 6-12 hours after the event on Apple's website
- mad5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4www.macrumorslive.com will have the best coverage judging by last time.
http://digg.com/tech_news/Apple_Keynote_2007_live_and_AJAX_updated_every_few_seconds - Greyarea, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1[digg down, didn't hit 'reply']

- nerone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0oups...
- Essefgy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great! These links should be useful while I'm stuck at work tomorrow afternoon.
- xistboi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I thought it would make sense instead of 50,000 Digg posts saying "I have Macworld Live coverage"
- rholloway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4At first glance, I thought "The Who" were playing for the keynote, which struck me as funny until I saw the question mark. That is all.
- mishad7, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1Duplicate story. Lame
http://digg.com/apple/List_of_all_LIVE_Macworld_Keynote_Coverages- McZiggz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2no worries mate, i didn't get diggs on mine either :-P (although i didn't submit it)

- clintology, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ars Technica (http://www.arstechnica.com) will be live blogging the keynote in IRC at irc.arstechnica.com #mwsf tomorrow morning. That room will get full quick, so please know that that information will be live transcribed to a post on our front page that everyone can refresh and view in real time.
They've arguably had the best coverage on Macworld and WWDC event for the past 2-3 years now. - MikeMacMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great list. MacRumors has a nice live feed that they update minute by minute during the keynote.
- mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Macteens? Seriously?
- codyph55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1does anyone actually know what time tommorow it will start

- PierdoleCie, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2macworld?
doesn't ring a bell. can someone remind me what it is again? - Naga10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So, will Apple be the only place to watch it after it's over, or will the other places have it?
I get home at 3:30ish, and I don't want to wait until later that night to see it, because I don't want to ruin the surprise. Or should Apple have it up by then? - norcalscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What about those of us who want announcements on our cellphones while we commute that morning to the city with our lousy exhibit-only pass, and cant refresh a blog every 10 seconds? Verizon wireless broadband FTW (umm if somebody in the car had it)
- opps12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want to make sure the time is correct, it starts at 7:00 am central time right?
- isdereks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Central is +2 so 11AM
