- Cyrealm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is my personal favorite for a while now. I don't know if this one will make it but I love the concept.
- MacPPC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This one is the only app that qualifies as a Dream App, Vote Whistler!
- MrSmeger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2 That's _Jason_ Harris, MDA judge!
- aristotle0dude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can't wait to be able to whistle or tap a tune that I have in my head.
This will definitely appeal to people who know something about music but are out of practice playing instruments or cannot read/write sheet music.
I'm a vocalist but I have not played an instrument in years and I don't know how to read sheet music ( musical notes). - nuance9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is one of the few ideas that, in my opinion, really qualify to be a "dream" app.
Have you ever met someone with extensive music & ear training? I have. They can tell you the chord a car horn plays or the note of your microwave beep, as easily as you can tell you if grass is green or blue.
In comparison, the rest of use are somewhat handicapped, similar to a person with poor vision interested in oil painting. Without corrective measures (glasses for example) that person will never be able to reach their artistic potential as they are hindered by their limited vision.
While Whistler will in no way replace an education in music, it would be similar to glasses for a person with poor vision, and allow many individuals to more fully enjoy the art of music creation.
Just as glasses can't help a blind person, Whistler can't help everyone - but for many of us it will be an incredible tool that opens a whole new door to composition.
This app could open a LOT of possibilities. VOTE FOR IT!! - orelse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, here is the actual app (for MS Wnd though) that converts singing, not whistling to MIDI:
http://www.sloud.com/technology/ub_composer/ - hippydave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1please vote for whistler! :)
http://mydreamapp.com/vote - bass0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, Whistler didn't make it. :( I'm also disappointed in the Digg response! I gave up diggging articles because the content here just degraded dreadfully, but Whistler is my first digg after two weeks.
Here's hoping that it gets developed, in any way possible! - allarise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Go Whistler! my top pick, easily. we all have songs in our head, but precious few of us can play musical instruments. a true "dream" app. good luck!
- emillofman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Atmosphere is probably going to win as it's just beautiful and can appeal to any user, but presuming Whistler gets made and really works as described, it will kick ass. Worth voting for just to see if the developers can pull it off.
- random44, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hey, no quote from me?! :P
This has got to be the most exciting idea in the contest, once you get it. Unlock your creativity, and think how fun Whistler would be to play with - it's like the missing Garageband plug-in that might make you actually use Garageband! :D - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2UNTIL IT'S AN ACTUAL F'N APP...STOP POSTING ABOUT IT.
- Spatulated, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2“Whistler could change people’s lives, for the better, launch new careers, bring happiness to people.” – John Harris, (MDA judge)
“This application seems like a real killer app.” - Bruce Horn (Apple)
This is just awesome. Someone make it, please. The greatest thing an application can do is allow users to do something that was once too difficult or complex to be feasible...Whistler would be a useful tool and a phenomenally fun toy.
Nicholas Jitkoff (Quicksilver)
“the one I am most dying to play with by far...borderline revolutionary”
Bill Bart (The Skins Factory)
“I adore this idea... ...Whoo, Whistler...
I love this idea, and it'd be fun to code.”
Jason Harris (Shapeshifter)
“I just want to write two things about this idea - congratulations and oh my God does it look sweet! Whistler introduces a completely new way of interfacing with sound editing apps, which is so intuitive and simply human, that I'm actually astonished that I've never heard about it before.”
Piotr Gajos (Inventive)
“this idea - which might at first seem technically ridiculous - is actually probably quite possible and could be amazingly awesome”
Cabel Sasser (Panic)
“This concept is pure brilliance incarnate.”
Bill Bart (The Skins Factory) - random44, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0It won't be an app if it doesn't get more votes....
