- Alegoo92, on 10/11/2007, -14/+49Oh, GOD... We get it! We want 3G, non-exclusivity, MMS, and all the other bull. Do we really need an article on the front page everday to remind us of this?
- dfdub, on 10/11/2007, -12/+32Thank god it blends.
- thekak, on 10/11/2007, -6/+26Very valid points, thanks for taking the time to write that up.
I'd also add the to it the ability to use Favs in SMS and other places so I don't always have to surf to a contact. - TFC867, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20FINALLY this thing is getting some press!
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21i don't mind the iphone articles, i just wish they had new information occasionally.
- willgonz, on 10/11/2007, -7/+22Quit reading them then,
- aaronm67, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10The article expands in to 4 pages. Pretty stupid design of the web page, but there is a lot more article there if you click "Read the Rest" or whatever.
- jawagas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I think this guy brought up some very nice points I haven't seen in other articles. As much as we hate the blogosphere we gotta support the little man.
- Dhalgren, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10Good riddance.
- LordofChaosIori, on 10/11/2007, -6/+12Not us, Apple.
- mpeters13, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Before reading this article, I got to thinking... "Ugh... not another person complaining about the lack of features..." but this guy really hit the nail on most of these issues. Instead of complaining about the lack of features, he also provided insight on features Apple could easily add to this device without radical changes. (Short of the extra buttons at the bottom and a scroll wheel...)
- soe219, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10 Here is my list of UI enhancements that would make the iPhone even more useable.
Program Requests
Add a google video viewer or support to the youtube application for that
Add a iChat messaging program
Add the ability to send/receive picture SMS
Add the ability for SMSs to recognize addresses / phone numbers
iTunes integration
Ability to see contacts / recent calls / use bluetooth if computer has a microphone to make phonecalls from computer
Ability to see / edit Notes
Misc
Ability for screen to stay on longer, and turnoff at user set intervals of inactivity
Predictive Text
Should still work for words that are all capitalized
If predictive text is on screen do not remove it when backspace is pressed
Camera.app
Add the ability to take short videos with the camera / microphone
Calculator.app
Add possible soundeffects
Add support for HEX/OCTAL
Add support for sin/cos/tan (Basically make it like a Scientific Caluclator)
Ipod.app
While a video is paused, add the ability to use whats on the screen as wallpaper, or save to photos
Mail.app
- I know hotmail doesn't support pop3 servers, but how about the ability to display hotmail messages like other services. Would require parsing the code generated by the hotmail server, then making messages and storing locally
Add The ability to delete multiple email messages at once
Note.app
Add the ability to organize notes by date created/last modified/abc order
Add the ability for voice messages
Add the ability to search. Use two fingers to popup a search / clipboard menu
Add cross functionality with Mail.app so that emails can be converted into Notes
Add the ability to hold down UPCASE key and use second finger to click letters to be uppercased while still holding upcase key
Add the ability for the screen to rotate and the keyboard to change layouts
Add the ability to cut/paste by pinching. #TODO think about how this would work best
When magnifying glass appears, user uses two fingers, and drags one left, the other right to select more. down&right or up&left could select a full row. once user releases key, have a popup window asking if you want to store this text in clipboard
Add the ability to press the same key several times with increased accuracy: HOLD finger over key so that it popsup, tap screen somewhere else
Add the ability for capslock. maybe new icon. possible placement, split spacebar into two buttons, and use right button as capslock
or use right button so that if its held down it pops up a window with Capslock / Numlock status, and the user can pick with other finger
Add the ability to imbed contacts, addresses, and phone m
If user holds .?123 and slides up to #+= automatically switch the keyboard to #+='s
MiniSafari.app
Add the ability to cut/paste text
Add support for Adobe Flash
Settings.app
Add the ability to use any mp3 in library as ringtone
SMS.app
Add the ability for the screen to rotate, and the keyboard to change layouts
Clock.app
Add the ability to use any song in the library as an alarm
Add the ability to launch google maps starting at the city selected
Weather.app
Add the ability to launch google maps starting at the city selected - Dhalgren, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7That was in this article...
- chimaera2005, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Your favorites list has a bunch of arrows... click on one of the arrows and you bypass auto dial and go straight to the contact info page with a button that says "Text Message."
- rebotfc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Despite what all the haters are saying above, this is a decent breakdown of issues a business user will have with the iPhone and particular its email functionality.
Thank you for spending the time writing it up. - bluewithinblue, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4OMG ! Stop bitching that it's "on the front page and you don't want to know", then clearly READ every word. It's there because the iPhone is a ***** huge deal, like it or not. I thought the article read well. If you're not interested in iPhone stories, stop reading them.
- tomesnyder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4There is a rumored upgrade coming. http://mikecane.wordpress.com/2007/07/10/iphone-death-star-upgrade-coming/
- willgonz, on 10/11/2007, -6/+10Perhaps these items will be fixed with a future update. People are acting like 1.0 if forever. The Xbox 360 needed a ton of features added on and they did it.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I've been waiting to see how Apple addresses these shortcomings before I buy one. I'm not as concerned that the iPhone isn't perfect, I just want to see how they treat the early adopters.
- cowcowmoomoo1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8We've all read many many articles on digg about what's right and wrong about the iPhone, haven't we? If there's something new to say then it could possibly be front-page material, but this stuff isn't exactly new
- mattvogt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Only for every day there's an article to remind us that the iPhone is straight from the Hand of God and will save man kind just because of it's sheer beauty.
- sd2001, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Quote:
"Another big concern that people seem to be having is with the keyboard. I was at first a little clumsy with it as well, but got the hang of it once I learned to “trust” it and type away without worrying about mistakes or missed keys as the predictive text does do a extraordinary job and I am now faster on it than I was on my Blackberry. In fact, MOST OF THIS THE TEXT for this post was typed on the iPhone." - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4buh bye now
- turpenine, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6no no, the more you get buried down, the more it is proven you are an *****.
- justnick, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4yeah, I hate stevie as well but you just sound like a dick and I had to bury you.
- rebotfc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3If you're a poor chump with no job, yeah.
- superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Not a bad list, but one thing was wrong - hitting the sleep button twice sends a call directly to voicemail. Also he doesn't appear to know about Pogue's period shortcut:
http://missingmanuals.com/pogues_awesome_iphone_typing_shortcut.csp - twrife, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Why use a hammer? Buy a $600 commercial blender to slaughter your $600 iPhone.
- EricG, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Sounds like someone needs a hug..
- sixela, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I've found my iphone to be like a hot new girlfriend who turns out to be an annoying dumb bitch.
- darkyoshi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3no
- lilbitmoreslyk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2even if those people CAN afford an iphone many would probably have a better way to spend their 500 bucks.
- fastlanect, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I bought an iPhone, and I love it. Great phone, address book, and calendar. Easy to use, and is physically a great size. Sure, some improvements will be great, like 3G. Regardless, I'm very happy with it.
- Slick50, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Clearly a successful person if he can have an assistant wait in line to get him the device, which would also make him a busy person that would need a device that would do what he states in the article for it to be of any worth.
- willgonz, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6They have electronics in them. They are both upgradeable with new features. They both put out sound and produce a video. Want some more smarty?!?
- Cyclonic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2sounds like someone needs a swift kick to the balls.
- mikehill33, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2iPhone sucks. Only sheep fanboys bought it.
- pnmoore, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I have to say that the AT&T thing is what killed my iPhone purchase. In my area the AT&T (former Cingular) coverage is pathetic…no let me put that as PATHETIC. If Verizon could sell me an iPhone I would have had one day one, and I am absolutely NOT an Apple fanboy. I am predominantly a Microsoft guy, but this appears to be an awesome device and that is what really matters to me - not who made it.
On the push mail front - my thinking is that the iPhone is not supposed to be a smartphone for business users. If it IS supposed to be for business users then the lack of push email is a deal killer when almost every other smartphone has a way to do this (not just crackberries).
I think Apple’s thought was that this would be a smartphone for everyone else. In that case it isn’t a killer to not have push email; the other functions trump that for a personal, non-business device. - Aitese, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Has GPS where I'm from...go to their web site...Nokia is convinced they stuck GPS into it...and 3G capability...and useful bluetooth...and the ability to edit word, excel and powerpoint documents...and VOIP functionality...but what do they know,,,they just make phones. iPhone has a better screen...THATS what's important
- willgonz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Go into your profile and turn off Apple news, under "Manage Topics". If you spent less time complaining you might have figured that out on your own.
geeezzz can't we all just get along. - skubiszm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Sounds like some awesome upgrades. Only time will tell if any of them come true.
- DaveClarkOne, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Software updates will fix many of the wishes mentioned in the article, so it will be entertaining to read what people suggest for improvements later. No, the iPhone will never be able to launch a missile strike...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2one word: Lisa. they thought they had it nailed, nobody bought it. They didn't fix it, they walked away from it. Well, they ended up burying 2,000 of them in the desert in Nevada, but you get the point.
- digitalvik, on 12/23/2007, -0/+1Exactly...Same stuff all over, Hope to see something new from Apple next year!
- postalblowfish7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1wow, no *****.
i'm sure apple is on it.
in the mean time please shut up about the disappointing size of the penis extension you just picked up from the AT&T store. - lowbot, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2What about third party apps and a friggin SDK? I mean, 90% of the complaints for this locked in fashion accessory would end if they let us write apps for it.
- superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1See? It's so easy to type adding exta words is accidental!
- nullcodes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No, the n95 is QVGA (only 320 pixels wide). THE most important thing to me is having at least an 800 pixel width display. Also the n95 lacks gps.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1iSmoke. I loved it. Best post on Digg in a year.
the surprising thing is how long the screen stays lit while it's blending. A good few seconds at least. - ehelbush, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Forget syncing to a bluetooth GPS receiver, put a GPS receiver in the phone. Great I have google maps but how much help is that when I am lost.
