- miniboss, on 10/17/2007, -16/+242Only morons think Dell is their nemesis. Wake up, you aren't PART of Apple. You merely buy their products.
Dell competes with Apple FOR consumers so to put yourself on one side of THEIR battle is ridiculous. Unless Apple (or any company) is sending you out products for free, associating yourself as part of their "team" is silly because their loyalty is to your wallet, not to you. - angrycat, on 10/17/2007, -2/+60I don't know if it's still the case, but a few years ago the 20" inch widescreen dell was offering, the 2005FPW, used the exact same screen that the 20" inch apple widescreen monitor used. Both made by samsung. The dell display was much cheaper and also offered more features
- nbeighley, on 10/17/2007, -8/+62My MBP and my $269 refurb dell 24" monitor...I'm lovin it!
- monsterofNone, on 10/17/2007, -8/+54you're a mac user that spells it MAC? yeah i don't think so.
- FreakyD, on 10/15/2007, -25/+70b b b b but we are part of the iRevolution ....aren't we?
Apple people are funny. - ZephyrNinety, on 11/08/2007, -3/+41I'm a computer user.
- kajoob, on 10/16/2007, -5/+31You're a Media Access Control user? Me too - my Mac's network card uses it.
- BossKey, on 10/15/2007, -2/+25Actually, we don't...I think you just admitted that you're the only one wearing the tighty whities! Sorry.
- Skanadian, on 10/15/2007, -8/+30Finally some of the logical thinking humans from the Apple section show up. Give up with brand loyalty, look around at the cheap competition.
- stormgren, on 10/16/2007, -1/+23"I know the resolution is less, but is the difference really worth paying more?"
Yes. Otherwise it wouldn't be more. - aznhomig, on 10/15/2007, -19/+36Congratulations, Mac owners, you've finally joined the ranks of people who sensibly buy reasonably-priced products which offer the same features as your overpriced Mac hardware.
I'd be looking for alternative equipment of equivalent quality to avoid the 50% Steve Jobs tax. - OrangeTide, on 10/16/2007, -0/+17It's all made in China.
- surfacewound, on 10/17/2007, -2/+19"The colors might not be as true, so if your work depends on super accurate color display, you may want to move along."
This has been addressed with Dell's revised 2407WFP-HC model. - monospaced, on 10/15/2007, -1/+18Please don't get the cheapest. My father decided to get the cheapest LCD money could buy, and that's exactly what he got. No amount of tweaking color profiles and color adjustments on the screen could create a truly pleasing image. The brand was BenQ. Sounds like some kind of personal lubricant, if you ask me.
- joeycerone, on 10/16/2007, -8/+24but the cinema displays are just so damn sexy.
- arachn1d, on 10/15/2007, -4/+20I use an MacBook Pro and a 24" dell monitor, my other developer buddies do the same thing!
- ReallyOswald, on 10/16/2007, -26/+41I am a MAC user, but what cracks me up among Mac users is that they treat themselves like it is them vs. The World. This article is another example of that mentality.
- se1zure, on 10/15/2007, -4/+19for those of you who dont' get his joke, that was the comment Michael Dell Made about apple not too long before apples stocks went through the roof.
- ckSubs, on 10/16/2007, -1/+15HDTVs are way more expensive than 22inch monitors... and their resolutions suck.
- TennisElbow, on 10/15/2007, -2/+16I don't like where he says that having a built-in USB hub in the monitor is a Dell feature that Apple should emulate. I have a 23" Apple Cinema HD display, and it has both a built-in USB hub AND a built-in Firewire hub. Has this guy ever looked at the back of an Apple Cinema display?
- fishfishfish, on 10/15/2007, -5/+18Having used an Apple cinema display at work I was very close to getting one for home. However, it actually worked out cheaper for me to buy *two* 24" Dells than it did to get a single 24" Apple, and they come with a three year next day replacement guarantee. It's a no brainer. I now have a dual 1900 x 1200 desktop which looks awesome.
- pintomp3, on 10/16/2007, -0/+13you're right. here's a link to anandtech's 20in lcd shootout:
http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=2 ... - canthraxp, on 10/15/2007, -1/+14Can I print your comment and frame it?
- TheCheeks, on 10/15/2007, -10/+23The monitors are the only thing I would buy from Dell, I have a 20" from them for my Macbook.
- quomen, on 10/15/2007, -1/+13This is why you read product reviews before buying discount screens at compusa.
- ismith, on 10/15/2007, -4/+16They might be the same panel by Samsung, but they are NOT the same monitor. The color reproduction on Apple monitors is much better, where as the Dell monitors are slightly sharper. Additionally, he says he prefers the 24" Dell to the 20" Apple– of course (not because of size). The panel that Apple uses in its 20" is not as high quality as the 23" Apple monitor. If you want to blame someone for that, it's Samsung's 'fault'.
- inactive, on 10/17/2007, -3/+15It really is a sad state of affairs when fanboys won't buy from another company just because they might be "rivals".
A true techie will buy whatever product works best and in the case of monitors it certainly isn't one made by Apple. - pdbailey, on 10/16/2007, -0/+11Can you please post links to those reviews.
- sagat, on 10/15/2007, -1/+12That's very unfortunate, in the last two years I have purchased close to 500 Dell monitors (office upgrades) and never had a single issue with one of them.
- quomen, on 10/17/2007, -6/+17Yeah I'm using dell's 2407-HC right now and the image quality is SUPERB. I have yet to buy a Spyder and calibrate it but I love it. The Apple monitors are absolute ripoffs. In the case of their 20" screens, they use the same panels as Dell's line (the 2007wfp).. But a few hundred dollars more. Also, the apple monitor stands suck!!! They are non adjustable, besides being able to tilt it up and down.. WTF. My stand swivels, tilts, extends, and also rotates the screen so I can look at it the long way. So someone please remind me, what are you paying for? This is a serious question, as I read a review (of the 20 inch dell and apple) that favored the dell.
- ae6ai, on 10/15/2007, -6/+17I have seen many Dell loyalists. They work in IT departments in companies with thousands of Dell PCs and Servers. Dell has a good reputation, it was once better, but is still very good. It is not a fashion statement like Apple.
- KSUdesigner, on 10/15/2007, -1/+11I'm a graphic designer also, and buy Macs simply because I prefer OSX over Windows, but to say that a Mac is the best machine for graphic arts is wrong. Creative Suite runs equally well on a PC as it does on a Mac. And you can certainly build a PC that will out-perform a Mac any day (especially when it comes to the graphics card). Long gone are the days of worrying about cross-platform compatibility as well. It's simply a matter of personal preference now.
- lukas88, on 10/15/2007, -3/+12god forbid you should buy products from two different companies! Better not let them find out about each other!
Turncoat? If you use that word referring to buying practices, that is customer loyalty being taken too far. - komputes, on 10/15/2007, -1/+10In fact most of the LCD's out there are made by Samsung. They are purchased in bulk, put into a case, and then branded Dell or Apple or Other. No need to make war over a monitor. Now what I don't understand is why now that there is Intel MacOS why can't I install it on any Intel Computer.
- Ramble, on 10/15/2007, -6/+15So? I have a Dell monitor too and I dislike Dell strongly. I buy them because they are superior.
- inactive, on 10/17/2007, -0/+8I have a G5 Tower, and two Dell notebooks one running Ubuntu, one running XP. From the whatever works department, signing off...
- streak, on 10/15/2007, -2/+9A monitor is more than just the panel.
- greatblackowl, on 10/15/2007, -0/+7Why's that? I'm 20, and I say tighty whities.
- surfacewound, on 10/15/2007, -4/+10So? "3rd party" could mean any piece of crap. And I never said Cinema Displays were poor monitors, only that they're not the best there is. A few years back, the SGI 1600SW and then current Cinema Display were the exact same Mitsubishi panel, yet there were stupid fanboys blabbering at how the Cinema Display was far better, obviously ignorant to the fact that they were essentially identical.
- makis, on 10/15/2007, -2/+8i bought a 27'' dell monitor for my MBP and i'm really stafisfied of it
- Verdanic, on 10/16/2007, -0/+6Where the hell did you find a refurb 24" for that price?
- sequethin, on 10/15/2007, -4/+10this is so funny because I have been recommending dell monitors to other apple fans for a while now... I'm glad I'm not the only one!
- dan222555, on 10/15/2007, -0/+6Oh that's funny. I bought a laptop 3 months ago and I priced out a mac just to humor myself. In order to get the equivalent mac laptop to the Lenovo one I actually got with warranty and service included I would have had to pay $2500+. I only paid about $1300 for the Lenovo...
- manitoba98xp, on 10/15/2007, -0/+6You don't get it, do you? You misspelled "satisfied" as "stafisfied".
- Radan, on 10/15/2007, -4/+9Maybe, just maybe people are not as "brainwashed" as you think and maybe people just want high quality, user friendly and good looking products which Apple happens to deliver? I don't have any problems with buying products from Apples competitors, but usually Apple is the only company that delivers what I and many other people wants. Monitors in the other hand is a different thing as Dell actually makes pretty good displays which covers those criterias but for a lower price. And yes, I admit it, the Cinema Displays are way overpriced and really needs a refresh ASAP.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/15/2007, -3/+8I have bought 3 Dell Monitors in a row (2000FP, 2001FP and 2405FPW). Each has a lot more features than the equivalent Apple monitors.
But now with the stuff that happened with the 2407FPW-HC, I'm afraid to buy another. The monitor has huge problems with ghosting, and Dell isn't going anything about it.
I like to save money, but I'm afraid of getting a stinker. - surfacewound, on 10/15/2007, -2/+7I suggest you get yours RMA'd then, because mine works beautifully. I've played F.E.A.R., HL2, Company of Heroes, Bioshock, and Rainbow Six Vegas with mine so far, all with zero ghosting issues.
- TechCF, on 10/16/2007, -5/+10Apple Cinema and Dell screens have had the same panels earlier. BUT Apple screens didn't have any analog inputs and had less interference , thus a better more stable picture. This was proved over at Ars or something. (Though the little difference isn't made up in the price difference).
- quomen, on 10/15/2007, -2/+7No, actually it has been acknowledged by dell and addressed in this thread.
http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/m ...
I have a 2407-HC model but it is a FACT that there is a ghosting issue. Dell sent me an email about a week ago offering a refund to me but I think i'll just keep the monitor. HappyScrappy is actually right whether you want to hear it or not. And don't digg me down just because yours is fine, it's a well documented problem. - Daiken, on 10/15/2007, -0/+5The Dell 2007WFP and 2407WFP are some of the few SIP panels left out there in the market. If you truly want the best quality, you wouldn't pass it up just cause it's Dell. Just make sure you buy the good quality lcd rather than the cheap TN panel ones.
