- Shitokki, on 11/12/2009, -9/+75Apple has been pretty solid, but they certainly haven't been perfect. Both companies will continue to have hits and misses.
- michaelpinto, on 11/12/2009, -7/+55One of the problems I've noticed is that when you run any software from Apple on a PC it's always like painting over a decaying wall — things look pretty for a while, but the flaws come out over time. You install Safari and it's great, but the next upgrade runs poorly because the latest features which match the Mac now eat up 200 megs of memory. Or iTunes runs great on the first install, but one becomes corrupt and your settings are history (unless you backed up those settings and then under windows it's a pain to find them).
- borez, on 11/12/2009, -7/+53I man the Apple logic pro forums and I know the answer to this...
... we're all being used as ***** beta testers by Apple. - bigteebo, on 11/12/2009, -7/+51Sorry, still busy removing all the services & junk ITunes just has to have with the Windows version.
- mkriss5681, on 11/12/2009, -1/+44@SgtBlue
I take it your not a PC owner. Bonjour and MobileMe are "installable applications". Updater is constantly asking me to install them, even when I click "do not remind me again".
Don't Believe me:

- batmanz, on 11/12/2009, -10/+48And suddenly all the comments are "oh, well both OS's have their flaws," instead of the usual WINDOWS SUX LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

- kotatsu, on 11/12/2009, -4/+38I have to agree. iTunes is a train wreck, a massively bloated, sluggish, unreliable, spreadsheet app which somehow has to handle lots of media. It's beyond dreadful on both Mac and PC. Apple TV is slugglish, dated, lacks all the now standard streaming options, and has a very ugly interface. And even the mighty iPhone now feels choppy and slow - why does my podcast list lock up for 2-3 seconds at a time, and even when it's scrolling it limps and splutters like something from the 8-bit days? And why does even the iPod app crash so much?
Apple have plenty of plus points, but an increasing number of negative points which they seem unable or unwilling to address. And FFS, stop with the blu-ray hate Steve and put a modern optical drive in your super expensive PCs. How hard can it be?! - spootwo, on 11/12/2009, -2/+36ITunes for windows is the worst music program I have ever used, and I think I've used them all. If it wasn't for the ipod I would never EVER touch itunes.
- CaptCarrot, on 11/12/2009, -18/+51Apple fanboi: Tell me one thing you can do on your PC that I can't do on my Mac!
Windows fanboi: Right-click. - UltraMegaFilms, on 11/12/2009, -3/+34The weather will either be bad or good, depending on the weather.
- EverTheCynic, on 11/12/2009, -1/+29This comment is too sensible. Please consider something a bit more inflammatory.
- gdj11, on 11/12/2009, -8/+33Let's not forget about the iPhone. It's been gradually getting buggier and buggier.
- pocketjacks, on 11/12/2009, -2/+26If I were looking to cause as much damage as possible to the computer marketplace, I wouldn't start with the OS that has less than 20% of the market share. As Apple rises in market share, so will the number of their exposed exploits.
- MtheoryX, on 11/12/2009, -4/+28The same goes for running anything Microsoft on a Mac.
I'm looking at you Entourage and the rest of Office: For Mac. ***** embarrassing. - tdmeth, on 11/12/2009, -2/+25Whaddya know. That the exact problem that Windows Vista had, yet you still managed to blame Microsoft for those.
- brbeaird, on 11/12/2009, -3/+25Well played.
- JohnGalt750, on 11/12/2009, -3/+24First off all your saying is UNIX is superior and secondly if apple had 90% of installs it would be more of a target.
- hughesj919, on 11/12/2009, -1/+21They finally have a user base, and now someone noticed.
- UltraMegaFilms, on 11/12/2009, -2/+22iTunes for Windows is consistently one of the most poorly written pieces of software I have ever had to install (iPhone.) Being produced by such a large software company, I can only assume it is some ***** attempt at trying to convince people that Macs are better than the competition.
- a2fan, on 11/12/2009, -4/+24*Gratuitous opensourcefanboi smugly claims superiority*
- vtnerd, on 11/12/2009, -1/+17Didn't you hear about the vulnerability that exists in every single iPhone made so far? You know that one that allows you to jailbreak it. The same vulnerability that still hasn't been fixed after several years. Oh I see, you missed that one.
I will give you that Apple might be the only company where a giant, gaping flaw is actually one of the best features. - Maxwell1234, on 11/12/2009, -0/+16Some of my pro tools plugins no longer work... or rather they work but I have to register them every time I open said plugin. After contacting the company they just told me it was a snow leopard bug... ugh.
- CaptCarrot, on 11/12/2009, -2/+16There's an app for that.
- SiSurfer, on 11/12/2009, -0/+14It's the path of least resistance for malware writers. The subset of Windows users that are too dumb to secure or update their PCs still greatly exceeds the total number of OS X and Linux users out there
- Ryan32, on 11/12/2009, -0/+13Your brother either has bad hardware, or he's a moron and installed a bunch of crapware. I never have any issues with any of my Windows devices related to the blue screen....
Actually, I think i've only seen one once in the past year... and it was related to a bad stick of memory. - Nerfdude, on 11/12/2009, -0/+11"he who butchers quotes should not quote"
- runeasgar, on 11/12/2009, -22/+32No software is perfect. Nothing happened to Apple's software.
It has, and always has had flaws. The argument is that it has less. - UltraMegaFilms, on 11/12/2009, -3/+13You're an idiot. Every ***** year OSX gets cracked first, and you just keep repeating your stupid mantras: "Apple does graphics better" "Apple is more secure."
Apple has been moving away from premium software design. They have ***** over the video industry pretty bad in the last couple of years, and it is because they don't give a ***** about their old customers. They seem more interested in phones. - BabySinister, on 11/12/2009, -0/+9your brother is an ass that does not know how to use a computer.
i havent seen a BSOD in what 5 years? - lexpattison, on 11/12/2009, -2/+11Itunes sucks on OSX as well - and I'm apparently a fanboy.
- maggoty, on 11/12/2009, -0/+9If anyone who has worked with Macs in a server enterprise environment will know the problems that they can have.
The apple forums for server software is full of complaints about all sorts of problems. In a server environment, they are ***** compared to Microsoft. - BabySinister, on 11/12/2009, -2/+11i keep hearing about these "homosexuals". between me and my 42 friends who are all sexually active i havent seen a single homosexual. ive heard about ridiculously isolated homosexuals... but we cant possible be expected to think that these incidents indicate a mass phenomena
- waydee, on 11/12/2009, -0/+9Winamp works perfectly well with ipods - I lasted about a week using itunes before breaking down and finding an alternative.
Absolutely the worst piece of software I've come across in years, it's realplayer bad. I always hear that itunes is bearable on OSX though so god only knows what happened to the windows port. - kotatsu, on 11/12/2009, -2/+11And slower and slower. It used to be snappy, but no longer.
- BabySinister, on 11/12/2009, -3/+12i wish quicktime would just die already seriously who uses quicktime
- tdmeth, on 11/12/2009, -4/+13Once you get over 6% market share, we'll talk.
- webandgraphics, on 11/12/2009, -0/+9I really like my iPhone but that thing crashes daily. And I really like my Macbook Pro but that crashes almost as much as my PC (which is not very often). Both are great products but I think that Apple products are more like toys and are tageted for casual users PC's are more for the real geeks like me.
- jtako, on 11/12/2009, -0/+8Silly Apple, don't they know that's a "feature."
- HonoredMule, on 11/12/2009, -1/+8Or, that it's not a good idea to rebuilt the entire Mac architecture inside Windows instead of *actually* porting the application to Windows' architecture and using the proper libraries.
When every other media/library manager does far better with far less resources or developer support /on Windows/, you know it's not the platform's fault. - 1ofMany, on 11/12/2009, -0/+7"I NEVER restart my computer. My brother is always complaining about blue screening and what not.
...at the end of the day I just log out and log back in and everything is brand new."
Sounds about as inconvenient as shutting down and restarting, huh? - soapko, on 11/12/2009, -3/+10My apologies to the author, but this article was completely idiotic. To claim that an OS has a raft of bugs and problems, when the vast majority of issues that you claim are in fact isolated to 3rd party applications not working correctly is totally ridiculous. It is not Apple's job to ensure that every app and extension still works the same as before. Exercise some patience and wait to upgrade until your must-have apps have been updated.
- MonkeyFit, on 11/12/2009, -0/+7I remember a time on Digg where a single comment half-way critical of Apple resulted in being buried. The mob is a fickle bunch. Having joined in 2006, I'm a little surprised you don't remember that time either.
