What Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak actually said
nzherald.co.nz — Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak denied some of the comments attributed to him in an article I wrote recently. He suggests that I pushed him to make some of those comments...I find Mr Wozniak's response shocking as it is a serious attack, not only on my credibility, but also on that of the press in general

- NaziHatinChimp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I'm a huge Apple fan, but why does everything Apple does have to run by this guy? WTF is his problem. He talks about "Here's what I'd Do" and "Apple is making a mistake by doing this" and meanwhile the guy ain't done ***** in 15 years. WTF.
- SectorNation, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Insert Foot A Into Mouth B, Woz.
I'm kinda happy that he got nailed on this one. If he isn't going to take some accountability for his comments, then the media will do it for him! :) - ThePDW, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Aww, I don't care what Woz says, I still think he's a super guy :-)
- DrWho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I really don't care what Wox says either. I just don't see what the controversy is all about.
But it is funny to see Woz get owned. Especially over something complete trivial. Looks like Woz has lost it. Woz, just go back to playing Segway Polo. - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wait...you mean the press actually has credibility? Darn it! I guess my games are going to turn me into a homicidial maniac after all.
- kraagenskul, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Always good to say "Hey I didn't say that," when somebody has it on tape. What a maroon, and now that it's Dugg, he looks like a total ass.
- zillax0rz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Haha, Woz just got pwnd. Here's what Woz said after the article published...
"I did NOT say that the iPod division should be spun off and I feel used in that regard."
Here's what's in the transcript and MP3...
"I think spinning off a separate division for iPods makes an awful lot of sense."
Someone needs to shut the door on Woz. This guy is old news. - crowflies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1listen to the twit episodes where woz is on... he completely takes over the show and steers it in his own way... glad to see he got pee'd on...
- tijer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah. I was actually pretty surprised that the interviewer/author was so increddibly non-interested and passive throughout the entire interview. He can hardly be claimed having a hidden agenda.
- Lyph3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Now, where are the reporters doing this to all the politicians?
- test5477, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm a big Woz fan and he did some great things over his career. I think he's an engineer not a pr guy or spokesman. Cut the guy a break, he's earned it.
- vuzman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1"Now, where are the reporters doing this to all the politicians?"
Well this kinda just happened to George Bush; he was briefed before hurricane Katrina that the levees of New Orleans probably wouldn't hold, and did nothing. After the disaster, he lied about it.
And you (americans) wanted to impeach Clinton? Where's your head at? - ken52787, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Since the download is so god damn slow, here is a mirror:
http://www.bandwidthorbust.com/files/wozniak.mp3 - bpdlr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0who cares?
- Lyph3, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1"And you (americans) wanted to impeach Clinton? Where's your head at?"
The REPUBLICANS wanted to do that.
The REPUBLICANS also said Clinton was a horrible president when he sent some troops to stop some genocide.
Now, the REPUBLICANS call the democrats terrorist supporters when we say "Maybe we're over there for the wrong reason." - MinnesotaTwins, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Woz is a nutjob.
- DrWho, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0It's funny that Clinton was impeached for a blow job.
Yet Bush continues his lies and global devastation, inchngthe US Closer to dictatorship.
Paul Joseph Watson/Prison Planet.com | March 3 2006
Republican Congressman Ron Paul has gone on record with his prediction that the impeachment of George W. Bush is right around the corner but warned that in the meantime the US was slipping perilously close to a dictatorship.
Appearing on the Alex Jones Show and addressing the port sell-out, Paul stated that, "it probably will contribute to the Republican's failure in the next election."
(wow, off topic) - spoonman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why should Woz's opinion on Apple matter these days? He's been out of the industry for 20 years! Woz was a great engineer in his day. His day has passed.
- obiwansmith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Credibility 2.0.
Should we cut the guy some slack or keep in mind that everything is being recorded better than the mind can recall? I'm impressed the journalist stuck to his guns and defended his reputation so well. Maybe Big Media should do the same with quoting their own articles when it shows their rushed research and wrong conclusions. Maybe then most people would buy and read newspapers for something other than the coupons. - zillax0rz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can someone that donates to TWiT post this in the comments of their latest news articles? Maybe it'll be discussed on the show. Hell, let's boycott the next episode of TWiT since Woz is on it.
- bluehouse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Don't F with the Woz. He'll melt you with his chartreuse colored lasers
- CosmicJustice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2In what way is Steve Wozniak relevant? What has he done since Apple-II besides play with expensive toys?
- jav1231, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2"Well this kinda just happened to George Bush; he was briefed before hurricane Katrina that the levees of New Orleans probably wouldn't hold, and did nothing. After the disaster, he lied about it."
Okay, that's not only way OT but stupid. You have a) no idea how the system works and b) are a moron.
It's the Local and State's responsibility to be the first to respond. Furthermore, wtf was he supposed to do? All the money over the years given to La. to shore up those levys had been spent by greedy politicians. Fsck La. and fsck you for being an idiot. Don't breed, PLEASE!
OTOH: Woz didn't really say "should"....but he is making a symantic distinction, maybe, and should just take it. - Muss, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Wow how did this ever turn into a political bashing session?
Ooh well, my life goes on the same no matter what any President decides to do so I don't care.
As for Woz, like any of you haven't ever been caught by a friend saying something that you really didn't mean. Give the guy a break he has done so much for the computer industry. Whether you are an apple supporter or not you owe a lot to "THE WOZ."
Now bow down and kiss his feet before his wrath is poured out upon you all. - cranium, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Woz was right, the reporter was wrong.
Woz only talked about making IPod a seperate *division* but still part of Apple.
The numbskull reporter called that "spinning off the business" in the original article. - DrWho, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1"It's the Local and State's responsibility to be the first to respond. Furthermore, wtf was he supposed to do?"
That's not the point. The point is Bush clearly lied about having no idea the danger the Hurricane may have caused. And repeatedly said after wards 'nobody had any idea'. Same thing they said about 9/11,
'nobody had any idea'.
Basically these sons' of bitches get away using the same lie over and over again, and the 34% still lingering in Bush's favor are either idiots or sickos or both. - bengarland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I like how he keeps saying "we" this and "we" that when referring to current Apple events... even though he hasn't worked there in years. What a nutjob.
- werddrew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So awesome that Peter Nowak had the whole thing on tape. Goes to show how important that is for reporters to do. Imagine if he hadn't. He'd have lost a lot of credability because he couldn't prove what Woz said. As it turns out, Woz just sounds like a whiny manipulative jerkstore. Nicely done.
- tobtoh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Oops - pressed on the wrong reply button.
- wonky73, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3"attack – not only on my credibility, but also on that of the press in general."
Credibility??? Press???? yeah right.. A good rule of thumb is to assume everything that comes from the press is a lie.- tobtoh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nah that's not quite correct - most reporters do report the truth, just their slant on it. The trick for the reader is understanding what the reporters biases are and adjusting the story to compensate.
- Karyyk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1As much as I admire "The WOZ" (and as deranged as it sounds to refer to him as that), no one is above being called out on something like this. He says he didn't say something when it's fairly obvious that he did. And I thought all the revisionist history came from Microsoft...
- raisenero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well, maybe he just didn't remember the contents of the interview. Of course if he didn't remember the interview, maybe he shouldn't have rebuked it.
My overwhelming impression of the interview is a deep sense of vapidity. It was a good way for someone to take a long time to say nothing. - Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Woz -- thanks for the Apple II.
Now go away. - Schmitty, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1So...how did a article about Woz's ego get on the topic of stupid politics ?
I'll vote for who I want, and I'm the only one who decides that. So there.
:-P thphphphphphp, neener neener neener, I'm rubber your glue and other such equal footing arguements between partisans and their political stances.
Democrats to Republicans: FASCISTS!!!
Republicans to Democrats: COMMUNISTS!!!
Me to Both: (twiddling fingers) Pawns :-D - jmyhasuk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2What a great example of journalistic integrity. On the other hand, what a disappointing response from the Digg community who originally brought both stories to light.
Many Digg users have a sense of indifference in regards to Woz's unfounded, irresponsible accusations. His allegations mislead thousands of readers to question the integrity, credibility and validity of journalist Peter Nowak, as well as the New Zealand Herald. This could have a detrimental impact upon the career of Mr. Nowak and readership of the New Zealand Herald. No apology from Steve Wozniak can renew the respect and trust many readers may have lost in this publication.
"I'm a big Woz fan and he did some great things over his career. I think he's an engineer not a pr guy or spokesman. Cut the guy a break, he's earned it." No, I do not believe he has. Just because he is an engineer and "not a pr guy" does not mean he cannot be forthright and honest. What Mr. Wozniak did is akin to questioning his qualifications and experience as an engineer. It is a very serious matter, and in the age of the blogsphere it should be taken very seriously. - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3A big ***** you to all the people who jump first to discredit newspeople. *super finger*
- velvetshark, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1 No apology from Steve Wozniak can renew the respect and trust many readers may have lost in this publication.
Oh, PLEASE. I take it you work for the paper, and you're gunning for a lawsuit? I tell you what, when I think of journalistic integrity or journalism in general, I think of the New Zealand Herald. I think Woz messed up on this one, but talk about blowing things out of proportion... - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"What a great example of journalistic integrity. Saw your comment after I posted my last one, and just wanted to say you took the words right out of my mouth. We may have this "geeks stick together" mentality, but just because some newspapers and/or tv outlets like to run the sensationalist Video Games Teach Kids to Kill articles, doesn't mean we put their voice in the back. While we shouldn't believe everything we read, I can personally tell you all that newspeople, above all else, pride themselves on integrity and honesty, because it is SO ***** EASY to hang them out to dry.
I'm just glad the Zealand paper responded to this. Most papers wouldn't have bothered, but I think it's time for papers to start earning back their credibility, one yahoo at a time. - esaba.com, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Thanks for the mirror ken52787
- Fentekreel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0sounds like he takes press advice from berry bonds.....
- docxxvi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0awww hell - its hard to tow the company line 24x7, especially when your pr guy isnt sitting next to you... the whole thing prolly needs to just go away and NZHerald could prolly get down off its horse a bit if they ever wanna interview guys like this again. I would would have thought the apple PR team was a little more advanced beyond the "deny everything" page in PR101.

No, I do not work for the New Zealand Herald, although I do work with several university publications. I simply indicated that respect is hard to earn and even more difficult to earn back.
I certainly do not think it is "blowing things out of proportion". Consider this: a wealthy, well-known man attempted to tarnish the reputation of a journalist because he "forgot" or may regret some comments he may have made in an impromptu interview. Now that my friend, is blowing things out of proportion. - Digitalmafia, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Woz is a model engineer as well as human being. Everyone could take a page outta his book on how to spread YOUR own wealth to your friends n family, community and general world around you. Woz may not be all the interview savvy, but the guy is a god and when your done thanking him for the apple II thank him for much of the industry that followed. Nowak is worried bout his reputation...he is a "Journalist"--> It seems nowadays you can feed any closer to the bottom then that.
- HiddenLYNX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0I love you you guys totally understand business and what woz was talking about. I think the reporter mis understood him, and was putting words in Woz' Mouth, also, he took excerpts of what Woz said and made his own statement out of it. I can do that too. Who cares what Woz does/doesn't do now, who cares what he did, hes making millions and your not. Its all politics you can say what ever you want, but its probably not how youll act on it.
- fani, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0The press in our country is running rampant crazy. Its not longer a "presentation of facts" or journalism.
Today its all about their viewpoints and their spin. Everything has to be shock and awe.
Stupid press guy wanting to make a big issue out of nothing. Tell him to ***** sit at home if he cannot take one thing. He's being a little girly sissy pussy -
