- Zero2aHero, on 11/15/2007, -0/+146Wow, look at this quote...
---
"We used to fool ourselves," he said. "We used to think our content was perfect just exactly as it was. We expected our business would remain blissfully unaffected even as the world of interactivity, constant connection and file sharing was exploding. And of course we were wrong. How were we wrong? By standing still or moving at a glacial pace, we inadvertently went to war with consumers by denying them what they wanted and could otherwise find and as a result of course, consumers won."
---
That quote needs to be on the wall of every music execs office - unit101, on 11/15/2007, -5/+86Sounds like somebody finally gave him an iPhone.
- drouk1556, on 11/15/2007, -2/+64It's a trap!
- hawarkarem, on 11/15/2007, -0/+41Is this a dream?...
I mean..what happens now? - sonicdeviant, on 11/15/2007, -0/+37Amen. They woke up...only it was about 7 years too late.
- defektiv, on 11/15/2007, -1/+28ok wtf is going on? first the republicans vote to push cheneys impeachment through, then ron paul gets recognition and now this? am i still in america? what's the catch?

- joshmoney, on 11/15/2007, -0/+23Ha ha. Yeah, The Onion gets me everyti... wait what...?
- Haz3rd, on 11/15/2007, -1/+20They're too early. It's not April yet.
- geminitojanus, on 11/15/2007, -2/+20There has never been a more relevant time to use this one: "Better late than never."
Thank goodness for a glimmer of sanity left in this world. - benitojuarez, on 11/15/2007, -0/+16Do does this mean theyre going to drop cases and forgive and forget about anyone theyve sued?
- consonance, on 11/15/2007, -1/+15Hypnotoad isn't real, dumbaALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD.
- colincornaby, on 11/15/2007, -1/+12Look, I'm a Mac guy, but Jobs is not a magic angel who can come down from on high and solve any world problem.
- nightstrm, on 11/15/2007, -0/+10If he really feels this way, we should see Warner music DRM-free on iTunes Plus next week...
I'm not holding my breath. - cherrick, on 11/15/2007, -0/+9Th-this is satire, right?
- NoOneButMe, on 11/15/2007, -2/+11Better late then never. There are people who wouldn't mind buying stuff if it was as easy/fast/has as many files as bittorrent or some other method does.
- course6, on 11/15/2007, -1/+9Yah, I'll wait to see some action before I believe that he's really seen the error of his way.
- NoOneButMe, on 11/15/2007, -0/+7Last one out the door.. And Warner's hardly the last one out this time.
- Kerrigore, on 11/15/2007, -0/+6Not a dream, but it may be one of the signs of the apocalypse.
- randysouth, on 11/15/2007, -0/+6Dugg for the Futurama reference.
- bitcloud, on 11/15/2007, -1/+7I thought the saying was "too little too late"
- CrashKC, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5Can I digg this twice, please?
- nfxmedia, on 11/15/2007, -0/+5Cats and Dogs living together. Mass hysteria.
- randysouth, on 11/15/2007, -1/+6And in other news Warner Music discovers the telegraph.
- TomPhoolery, on 11/15/2007, -0/+4Frank Zappa would be proud.
Well, he'd probably be more like "I ***** TOLD YOU SO!!!!" - phogasmic, on 11/15/2007, -3/+7the music industry is finally waking up, hopefully its not to late.
- inactive, on 11/15/2007, -1/+5No *****, Sherlock. It's not like people have been saying that since computers could make noise.
- inactive, on 11/15/2007, -2/+6It is a very profound quote, the music industry has finally started to wake up and realize they spent all this time fighting it, instead of embracing it. Years ago they knew their was a demand for digital content , but instead held on to the cd, while apple created an empire.
- mjhamilton, on 11/15/2007, -1/+5Sounds like someone's jealous...
- counterplex, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3I think it's time to support Warner Music with our dollars. Clearly this guy "gets it" - it's time to tell him we appreciate it and encourage him to do more and go further.
- frozenpxl, on 11/15/2007, -2/+5Nothing will happen while Metallica is still signed to them.
- Coded1, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3I bet if I called this in 2002 I would have cleaned up nice right now.
- sobo310, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3I think it's kinda sad that when i first read the title/article I thought it was a fake/spoof. That the music industry already damaged themselves so much that the reading comments like that the first thing i think about is, is this a joke. Well I hope that more people take exec and starting embracing technology and their customers
- nfxmedia, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3They didn't say the ONLY Cupertino based company. Simmer down.
- Shadowhawk109, on 11/15/2007, -1/+4Picture, if you will...
- bitspace, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3Nothing, because none of the other execs will listen to him. Let's also keep an eye on how Warner develops business in the future to see if he means what he says.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3Usually, these revelations occur about two weeks after it is too late.
Bravo for him -- but our economy is about to tank. And the Music industry is going to get replaced by iTunes. Can he change it around? I think the Indies are,... but the major labels will have to subsist on less profit margin -- it's that simple. - frozenpxl, on 11/15/2007, -2/+5It will never happen while Metallica is still signed with them.
- ssj2119, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2We'll see where this goes - all this means is that they have come up with a way to get the same revenue as they were before but in this day and age, they're not really waking up and changing for the better, they are changing their plans in order to get more money for themselves...they are very short sighted..personal experience
- Coded1, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Some how to have Hollywood complaining about politics is a bit too drastic, why don't both of you take a pay cut and cut me some slack on the prices and commercials, maybe something better then reality tv too.
- chaosium, on 11/15/2007, -2/+4At some scale you can't do it yourself. And no, not even Ani DiFranco is DIY, but definitely an "indie".
- Gir9000, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2I thought maybe this was from the Onion... somebody send this to NBC!
- mkrygeri, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2He is Hem.
He finally figured out that his cheese isn't ever coming back. - chkdg8, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2The recording industry has known this all along and specially during the Napster scandal. They just milked it for as long as they could and finally they realized that the game is over. They can go after bit torrent sites all they want but it'll never stop the bleeding. They're fighting a war that can be best described as "death by a thousand cuts". News Groups have been around since the late seventies and they're not going away because there is no source or a head to cut off. Apple on the other hand is just playing the game by selling digital distributions and more big name artists are selling their music online or through itunes. Everyone downloads and pirates media. That's why media players sell in the first place! If people payed for media then believe me when I tell you that Apple's stock wouldn't be where it is today.
- insllvn, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1***** Metallica. When was the last time they were relevant? Have they produced ANY worthwhile music lately? Seriously I don't know. I am not a fan of theirs, although some of their old stuff was decent.
- knuckles, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1That was a lot of ass-kissing on Edgar's part. I'd love to see the chart which opened his eyes, sales of DRM tunes must be dismal.
- insllvn, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Not the last, not by a long shot.
- Glass_Onion, on 11/15/2007, -2/+3I'm well jealous. I want Steve Jobs salty bulb lolling on my tongue
- inactive, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1Too bad there are a thousand Haws for the one Hem.... I wonder when you saw that movie?
