- ReBeLaCe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+58Have you watched the video?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40It's video sarcastically mocking vista.
so it's a no brainer for apple to post.
And we all know that steve likes to poke fun at redmond now and then.
At least Apple has a sense of humor. - kismac, on 10/12/2007, -8/+31LOL
"Apple's search feature is in the upper right hand corner of the screen, Vista's is in the lower left hand corner... the same? I think not!"
Priceless. - cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22I've looked under the hood, you are mistaken.
- doubleblack, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19And in Breaking News, Apple has NEVER "stolen" anything from Microsoft!
It's not stealing folks, it's just evolution. Take car sunroofs for example, one company started it all - ***** everyone else up the ass because they "stole" it. It's not stealing, they are giving what the demand is for...and things evolve over time. - MuTeD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15@flag564
Example? - olddirtycr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11cquinned is right they didnt take 6 years to come up with a theme upgrade ;)
- mtzmtulivu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@ireland, what exactly did you expect to find when you started using vista? naked girls dancing on your desktop? seriously people, an OS is MORE than just fancy was of resizing your pictures ..comparing desktop icons btw OS is lame and just plain stupid ...people's ignorance of OSes seems to increase by the day. You have people these days releasing a brand new OS and show 100+ screenshots of KDE or GNOME ..these are desktop env. they arent OS!!
An OS is more than what you can see and click .. - mjar81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I didn't even notice that you were talking to him til i realized i couldn't see his comments becuase i've previously blocked him. Everyone block this idiot.
- MsterTanPants, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8ignore flag564.
he's just a troll - Niobium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@idesign
"I think you may need to look up the definition of the word 'evolve'."
evolve: To undergo gradual change; develop.
How is this not appropriate for the comments mentioned above? - LordofChaosIori, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10@ireland
What an annoying newscaster! Someone smack him with a shovel... - zbilly, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10@flag564
you're an idiot.
is all you do go around and try to make people believe that windows is far superior to mac osx? - lpmusix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Genius, there's a spell checker, use it.
- venom8599, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Yeah...because Apple totally invented the concept of searching. /sarcasm
- damnhandy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I think that was DOS not Windows that that guy was developing :)
- jouissance, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10I'm an IT professional and an avowed PC/Windows zealot...at least I was, until I bought a MacBook five months ago. After extensive use of both operating systems, damned if you don't come to the conclusion that OS X is a more elegant, more efficient, and more endlessly customizable environment than Windows. It seems like we're stuck with both for a long haul, but I think the superiority of OS X is striking in almost every regard, and I think Apple is now positioned to demonstrate that in a bigger way than ever before. Props to Apple for their confidence in posting that video to their homepage - it's high time people realized that other options exist, and that we don't have to sit in the pockets of billion-dollar tech companies who have grown complacent in their control of the industry. It's like Hegel always said...the Masters are never the Masters forever; the interesting part is wondering who becomes the Slave after Microsoft falls...dugg.
- joe122370, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4put down the pipe and go to bed now.
- binkjuice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Is it just me or do you want to beat that guy up? That was the lamest ***** ever..
- bobbyi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@ireland: here are some ms blog entries about that voice recognition bug:

It was just a bug with the volume settings and by all accounts was fixed by the final version. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Bill Gates bought DOS for $50,000.00 and sold it to IBM. NOT Windows.
According to the book, "iCON" and "Accidental Millionaires" Windows was developed after Apple's LISA debuted. - SuitCase874, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Of course, but a few of these features seem directly lifted from OS X, and completely belie the capabilities of a gigantic corporation like Microsoft. There is no reason why Vista's desktop search, gadgets, file browser and other things have to be like OS X - OS X does not have the perfect implementation of these ideas. What Microsoft should be doing is pushing the envelope further, and approach ideas in different ways to Apple - WinFS is one of them, for instance.
- TheDrunkMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have used both extensively, though I have never actually owned a Mac. At the end it is just your opinion on what environment you like better. Personally, I like the taskbar over the dock (the essential difference). I also like that I can play many more games in Windows.
I don't have any problems with security or viruses (since I am not stupid) and I have really never had sort of reinstallation or related problems with XP. There is no good reason for me to switch and buy a Mac. I am tired of all the fanboy battles over the OSes- "Apple is teh Gay!!" and "OMG M$ is $o $hitty!" and even "[insert linux distro] is clearly the best! You are all brainwashed by the companies!" Why can't anyone just stick with their own OS and stop evangelizing? - CryoNine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't understand why people are so quick to jump on companies for copying GOOD features that other companies have previously put out... that's one of the smartest things you can do. If an OS I don't use often has a great feature I know I'd want that feature to make it's way into my primary OS. This can be applied universally to just about everything.
Copying is only bad when the copier claims innovation. - mpeters13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why does every single apple thread become a flame war? And did the submitter even watch the video before RUSHES to digg to make the FRONT PAGE... Cripes. Meh. We all know digg has gotten lousy, but we all still come hear anyhoo. Probably no point in whining... The video however, was funny.
- zbilly, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6it's just because your answer sucks
- das7282, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why not? Don't they advertise now that you can run Windows on a Mac? It was in one of their "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" commercials.
- monomyth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2that video is great :)
also it looks like apple pays for "vista" google adword. It's one of the top ads on the search page.. - Justin6512, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2haha, that video is awesome.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It was only $150 million, and it was just for publicity benefiting both companies. It did not save Apple. And MS sold it off years ago. I don't think you could even be a contestant on Show Me the Money. Thanks for playing!
- Tuxbunta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Same here. An arrogant ***** without the slightest idea of what he is talking about. You would personally think that NYT (not that I am a fan) would have someone a bit more knowledgeable about this things. I am not saying Vista wasn't strongly influenced by OSX (it definitely was), but search??? Something Microsoft mentioned before anything about Spotlight came out.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Apple paid in stock for the information they got from Xerox
Remind me, who did MS pay? - dobesov, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3If I remember correctly Microsoft released a paper stating what they were implementing in Vista long before the features in dispute ever showed up in OSX. Apple began implementing everything in the list and even cut items the second that MS said they would not be implementing them, such as WinFS. Frankly I don't find either company to be innovative. Each is following the natural course of computing, taking ideas from each other and others. I mean did any of us really think... hey in the future,,, computers wont be shiny and more visually appealing? The difference between Apple and MS is their release schedule. Apple has implemented the "Longhorn features" incrementally while MS has been waiting for a single everything is done release.
I mean what have we innovated in the last 20 years besides under the hood memory protection and stability changes. As far as an OS goes OSX might as well be OS insert number with more packaged applications, something MS is not allowed to do because of idiotic governments who are in no way in touch with our times... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not DOS, Q-DOS
Quick and Dirty Operating System
Also Bill didn't sell IT to IBM, but rather licenses. - dd240sx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2i thought wigits were from yahoo
- SirTezzy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3My god. In all honesty, whatever you are thinking RIGHT now, chances are, at least 3 other people somewhere in the world are thinking fundamentally the SAME thing.
This war is absolutely ridiculous. I cannot believe so many people are fretting over the fact that Vista comes with a function similar to Mac OS-X, or even the whole Widget/Gadget options.
What you REALLY should be concerned about is which works better, and by that, I'm talking about which one suits you the best. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I thought microsoft owned a percentage of apple. I know Bill Gates owns a huge amount of stock that he bought to save the company.
- andrewrchambers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'll be honest, I watched the video on digg last night and found it rather amusing (albeit a ripoff of what the french dude said at the WWDC). But when it showed up on my RSS this morning I was kind of dissapointed. I mean surely Apple have better things to do than just poke cheap jokes at MS....
I dunno. I just thought it was kind of lame coming from an official body. I expect it from digg, or from one of my friends sending me a link over IM or something, but to come from an Apple RSS just seems a bit... not desperate... but well just a little bit desperate... - testdrivemedia, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3If you all wanna be like that, apple didn't "invent" the operating system idea... so they "stole" that idea too. What bastards!
For god sakes... get over it everyone. This subtle or not so subtle borrowing of ideas is what keeps technology evolving. - ClaiE, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Well, all that Apple needs now, is a good framework to work with, a good community of developers, a good support of other platform (not only their kind of expensive hardware), some collaboration with other powerful companies, some presence in school...
Then, pretty cool to make ads for another company in the font page of our website... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1an os is exaclty what you can see and click. I don't need to "OPERATE" anything else. At least I shouldn't.
- theiggy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1no. they bought a small amount of non-voting stock back in the late 90's as a show of faith in the platform and to help ink a larger legal deal with apple over patent licenses. they own no part of apple now, never have in fact since it was just a non-voting investment. and all that deal really did was end some old disputes, it did nothing to contribute to apple's bottom line. they're a company with over 9 billion in the bank now.
- fofusion, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1If ideas weren't stolen companies would have much less motivation to innovate new features.
Although yeah I would agree it is stealing its a good thing really. - CielChocobo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I'm speechless
- joe122370, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2get over it windoze kool aid drinkers! Yes microsoft has copied Mac from the very beginning, they have no new ideas at all and everything they build is clunky and ridiculously over complicated when it doesn't need to be. Now that Vista has finally come around i can listen to windoze users brag about their "new" features.....until i point out that i've had them since before XP came out. Try OSX, rather than bashing it blindly and you will awaken to the fact that you have been kept in the dark ages for way, way too long
- ClaiE, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Do Apple's fans remember a company called Xerox ?... hum.. widget are apple's ?... hum a kind of desktop search bar is Apple's ?....
- aurifex, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5Apple HAS copied from Microsoft before, but not to the degree that Microsoft has copied from Apple.
And let's not all forget the origins of Windows and MacOS. Bill Gates lied to a guy who was developing Windows about who was interested in it, bought it off him for trunk change, and sold it to IBM for millions. Apple straight up told Xerox that they were planning on marketing their operating system for the masses at a reasonable price, Xerox thought it couldn't be done. There's a slight difference there. - hohonuuli, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I think you meant to use the word 'innovate' rather than 'evolve'. Microsoft just happens to be enjoying the fruits of Apple's innovation. ;-)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1The hizzel's up with that shizzle?
- Sbschil, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Its been stated above, but again have you watched the Video?

What is Digg?
