- mtvkilledusall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6bluetooth isn't fast enough to transfer video with any efficiency, is it?
- imdwalrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6iPod rumor #2,933: Take one old rumor (bigger screen), add another (Bluetooth), and voila!
With those mad skillz, you too can be the next Emeril Lagasse of...um...iPods! - jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5> Warning: The Content in this Article is Under Review

Heh...what is this, Wikipedia?
You can put statements up like "this article is under review", but that doesn't hide the fact that the "review process" on Digg consists of people clicking an up or down button based on their own arbitrary opinions. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7bluetooth headphones. most people would rather have wired than to look like they're using hearing-aids. and if you use large bluetooth headphones you pretty much look retarded.
- aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I am an Apple fanboy, and I envy the Mac as I do not yet own one. But I'm getting sick of all of these unfounded stories on digg.com
"Apple has a fun new product" = 500 Stories Submitted, 34 on front page
"60 GB iPod on List" = 50000 Submits, 50 on front page.
Products come, products go, with apple it happens more often, get over it, wait for things to come out when they do, and if they dont, they dont.
Pathetic! - longofest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Bluetooth 2 EDR should be okay
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The iPod battery has consistently gotten better and better throughout the product's life. The original iPod had a few hours of battery life. The newest iPod has about twenty hours of battery life - and consider it can decode new files than the old iPod, has a color backlit screen, has a larger screen, is skinnier, has a more demanding touch-wheel, and so on. When you consider the new features, the newest iPods have great batteries comparably.
Room to improve? Absolutely. But I seriously doubt Apple would suddenly stop improving better batteries. Every iPod gets better and better, even if only in increments. And remember - the problem is not battery technology. The problem is simply a design choice - are we willing to pay more (or lessen margins) to continue improving this product? So far Apple has always said yes. - longofest, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6who the heck reported this story??? The summary is 100% correct. Sure it is a rumor, but that doesn't mean that the summary of the rumor is incorrect.
- Sparklehorse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This whole video ipod story is kind of old, but CNN is reporting the same thing today:
http://money.cnn.com/2006/03/21/technology/apple_ipod/index.htm?cnn=yes - commongiga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3hopefully this would mean wireless syncing with itunes too.
- tekmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why would Apple use Bluetooth when they could just as easily integrate their own low-range RF transmitter?
By using Bluetooth Apple would be forced to pay royalties to Ericsson, Microsoft, Intel, and all those others who are part of the BT Consortium (if I remember correctly). - influx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Aren't bluetooth headphones poor in sound quality?
- slantyeyed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2nice, it'll give a chance for those bluetooth virii to take off . . .
- reaver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3no.
- smitting, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2give the ipod wifi and throw video on the airport express... who needs bluetooth then?
- pabster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No, the latest ones are actually quite good. I don't anticipate audio quality being an issue.
- scrambled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wireless headphones? Ew. If they're anything like the earbud things, I'd end up losing them.
- roeboedog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Um, while this will classify it as being wireless it still is ties to the computer. Give me the ability to have net or music store anywhere I can get a connection, not just when I am close to my computer.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone else notice how GOOD this story is? Everything is backed up by real sources that can be checked... Very fresh in the world of "the new ipod has a 20 inch screen" world...
- Choaderboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bluetooth is not going to happen. It would screw battery life, which is already short, and will be shorter still if they're incorporating a widescreen and higher resolution movie playback. Not to mention you'd also have to keep the headset charged. There is also the DRM issue - media sharing is not going to be encouraged by a company famous for their restrictive DRM measures.
These iPod video rumours are getting dull and most have very little basis on fact. By the time Apple does launch anything, there's no way it will last up to everybody's hyped-up expectations and consumers will be disappointed. - Killerah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2All it said was "bluetooth headphone" support. I got my hopes up and thought that perhaps it would enable iPods to communicate with each other and share media libraries as long as they stay in range of each other. Now THIS would truly be a stand out feature! Given the iPod's current popularity, just think of how much cool music people could share with you without you even needing to take off your headphones!
- thelastknowngod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i was thinking about this today. if the ipod had something that would update the podcasts wirelessly whenever i was in range of the computer i would love it. ive got a lot of music and movies on it and the only thing that i have it to update automatically is the podcasts just so i never have to be out saying "oh i wanted to listen to that new diggnation but i forgot to upload" or "i didnt have time to upload" it would do it for me. ive owned a few ipods and i now have the 5th gen... honestly... im not that impressed with it. more than anything it is the slowness of the menu system but thats a whole different can of worms...
- diskopo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That'd be fine except that Bluetooth is really slow, unless they're using the new 2.0 EDR.
- Killerah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't actually know anything about bluetooth, all I know is that it's some form of wireless communication. My original idea for this concept was for them to use 802.11g ad-hoc.
- Evdawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wait, I think this (might) bring some new news to the table: if only the 60GB model is "at risk", doesn't this mean that the 30GB will continue to be sold as usual?
Which means this is not an iPod replacement, but rather ANOTHER iPod (similar to the iPod Photo vs. the iPod back when it was still around). - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it takes more than one report to get a warning like this. and being reported has nothing to do with the summary, being reported as inaccurate means people believe the actual article is inaccurate
- DCstewieG, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Hooray, something else to keep charged!
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what they mean by "under review" is that digg users are commenting on why they believe the article is inaccurate.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you're right actually, this is a well-written actual journalistic article. not just some blogger's attempt to get traffic.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7More Apple Rumors. What a wonderful day for us all when we have yet another story for the fanboys to Macterbate to.
Im betting that this post hits -45. Fanboys dont like dissent. - DEFSMAC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2bluesnarfing for the win.
- samstr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Im willing to sacrifice product dimensions for battery size
-------------------------------
http://www.wirah.com - foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'd rather have an integrated fm tuner.
- tekmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I completely agree that standards are good for the consumer...but this is Apple we're talking about. The same company who's music store is exclusive to their own player ONLY. ;-)
- rigg419, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Windows Pocket pc's have played all kinds of video for years, my Axim X50v has a vga screen, and cost me about the same as a 30 gig ipod (without all that storage of course). Anyway, Basically, I can watch my bit torrented HDTV (lost, my name is earl etc...) on a very nice 3.7in screen. And, with the extended battery, it gets 4 hours of video playback. That battery does make the Axim HUGE though, the regular battery gets about 2 hours of video, more or less the same as the 5g ipod (but has a higher res screen)
That said, I love my old 3g ipod (and my v3i with iTunes) to death. While dragging and dropping torentet video files to my cf card using my card reader is pretty easy, nothing is easier or more convenient IMO than an ipod itunes combo with a 30gig hdd.
However, I would still probably not get a video ipod, unless I could download high res (HDTV) content from iTunes. I'd be fine with paying for my favorite shows, especially since I don't usually have the time to watch them when they air, but I'm not going to pay good money when I can get a better quality, higher res copy of the same show for free. - DtectiveGFriday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I seriously doubt it. I'm sorry people, but with all of the rumors, and fakes (and a somewhat of a let down keynote expo in Feb), i am very skeptical to believe any more of these "new ipod" rumors until the thing is actually released.
- longofest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1was using the term "who" as plural... doesn't really matter, as it made front page :-)
- thejam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this has been posted numerous times
- kevbear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Because we like standards!
If Apple bring out their own proprietory standard then whatever periphals come out to utilise it would only be available to use on Apple products. If they use something like Bluetooth then any other media playing device could utilise Bluetooth and make use of those Apple peripherals.
Sure, why would Apple want to do that, but I as a consumer definitely don't want that.
Standards are good for us the consumer, thinking that a company should produce even more proprietary crap is just plain silly. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1At the super slow speeds of Bluetooth? Eureka!
That's not what Bluetooth is meant for. But it could mean other things -- imagine this:
You're watching a show on your video iPod. You get near your Bluetooth Mac. Your Mac says, "Hello! Would you like to continue watching on your computer?" iPod pauses, Mac plays at the same spot. - ggko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gives new meaning to "earworm," no?
- fishindiesea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what society do u live in? companies do this all the time. i wish i could live where you do. standards rock, but companies dont care. granted apple's about the user experience, but as much as they can control it the better
- jazzwolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sure... Bluetooth may be a great [high quality] means of transferring audio, but it can't alleviate certain headphones/earbuds from reproducing inherently crappy sound... It's just the same as what we have now, but with wireless capabilities and the need to charge yet ANOTHER device.
- ggko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know if BT is good enough to transfer one song (then again, it's supposedly fast enough to stream audio over to the headset.) But copyright issues aside this would be interesting. Just one or two songs off each iPod you're in casual vicinity of in the course of a day is plenty, (on the bus, train, at the crosswalk...) It doesn't have to be ALL60GIGS which is what some people think is required, the idea is just to get introduced to new music. And if it's an ITMS purchased song, iTunes could even take note of one of these shared songs and point you to more from the artist when you sync. If the two iPods break connection during transfer, no problem, just seek out another iPod nearby.
- pabster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Makes sense to me. Of all the predictions made so far about the forthcoming iPod, Bluetooth support (headphones and/or otherwise) seems the most logical.
- tuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this sound like it could be true, heck since when did u folks work At APPLE? like u know. like i know its all speculation. but that's what makes apple events big. Steve knows this and that's why he launches these "events".
- Ilyanep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's what I wanted to say. We think alike. At least it's under review right now.
- Hoodooz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This time I'm going for it. I bought AAPL at $61.40 today. With the news that Vista won't make the 2006 Christmas season and a new iPod Video on the way things are shaping up nicely.
