- dbrodbeck, on 11/04/2007, -0/+4I too did not realize a VNC server was built into OS X. Good stuff.
- leonbev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I didn't know that Tiger had it's our VNC server, so this is nice to know. The Terminal Services client in Windows XP isn't half bad, either, but it's nice to have VNC as an option.
- ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol, no matter what story is Dugg, kids always have to come in and flame.. get off mommies Dell please. (get back on MySpace)
VNC is tight!~ ;)
True Leon, however only for Pro.. would be nice if M$ offered at least VNC on all by default. - alc0h0lic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Err.. The build-in VNC server is not 100% VNC compatible
- CadMasterAdam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm a huge VNC (RealVNC) fan, and this is news to me, though i'm complete noob to MAC. Why doesn't windows XP have this preinstalled?
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is free and hopefully, being integrated, more reliable than the other VNC hosting software I've been trying. News to me. +digg
- tgal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What about OSXVNC http://sourceforge.net/projects/osxvnc
- Sabotage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I didn't know about it. So was useful to me.
- tarun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's an idea for a free service: Let PC users experience OS X thru VNC! What better way to convince someone that OS X is superior than Windows than to let people try it?
Some Mac users with a lot of bandwidth should start something like this and peple will buy a real Mac and switch in drones. - PhilPrice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I tried this out (I got given a mac-mini from a client of mine to do some dev work on), i never really use the desktop much I just SSH in. Anyway, im on a pretty ropey wireless network (old b style network, so that'll be 11mbit max). Anyway I'm finding it really slow, if I try and which to using 8 bit colour for the vnc viewer, the screen just gets messed up (using TightVNC on WinXP) - any suggestions?
- Danathar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yea...but I had NO IDEA it was VNC!

"Apple has Remote Desktop, so user can access their pc anywhere in the world."
"Imagine that."
"Something we did years ago." - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hey I posted the same thing and only got 16 diggs.
- myskja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"So what do people use to do VNC on PC for free?"
Uh...VNC f.ex...? It comes in many variations for PC. But I normally just use Remote Desktop on XP Professional. And MS even has a free Remote Desktop made for MAC to be compatible with Remote Desktop for PC, so I normally use that program on my iBook to control my Windows PC at home. - cheesetoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think steps 1-5 are unnecessary to run Chicken of the VNC. Steps 1-5 are for enabling Apple Remote Desktop which costs $299 at the Apple Store and is used for a network of Macs. I have not used Chicken of the VNC, bus OSXvnc will run WITHOUT enabling Remote Desktop in the system preferences.
- skwhirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been using VNC for a long time on the PC, never had to pay for it.
Phil has the right idea on the SSH, but there are times I want to control an X app that doesn't have console control, so the whole desktop control comes in damn handy - tarun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey nabilanwar--I'm glad you liked my idea! There are many free versions of VNC for PC including RealVNC, TightVNC, UltraVNC, and WinVNC.
If someone would like to setup a free account for me on their Mac boxes I'd be forever grateful. There are no Apple or CompUSA stores where I live and I don't have any friends who have Macs. I just want to play around with the OS and see if it fits my needs.
Then I can buy a Mac when (hopefully) they release Intel ones in Jan. I don't think I'll buy one if I'm not absolutely sure that it's going to work for me. To do that I have to try it out. It's a viscious circle. - youmustagree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this was headline news on appletalk.com.au
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Is digg.com a big advertisement for OS X or what?
- madmacx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yea, it's called Apple Remote Dekstop 2.0. It's been out for over a year. Move on.
