- schwal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22who needs acid when youve got ipod ads?
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16How is this any more genre specific than any of their other ads? It's essentially an evolution of the original sillouette ads. They can't keep running the same original style, it would get stale and lose any value as a marketing tool.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Apple has it all in the marketing department. The ads appealed to a generic love of music that transcended genres, cliques, trends and fashions. Everyone, everywhere is attracted to the ads, the products and the concept. Hell, the iPod IS the generic marketing case study! Having created what could only be described as the perfect ad campaign, why do they keep trying to screw it up? First it was Bono, then Lugz, now this? Apple needs to understand that the most important thing about the iPod is that it dosent focus on the music per se, but the desire for music. And that desire is a more powerful marketing tool than association with a clique or genre.
- KCorax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12apparently jobs is remembering his youth
- Dradis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I would love to see an iPod ad that includes fat people, or at least people with different body shapes/ sizes. Maybe they could team up with Dove: "The campaign for real beauty + iPod"
- jacks0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"When you are high, remember to BLAST your ipod so in to sync with that crazy ***** up brain of yours." Techically that will happen with any sense what so-ever.
Any of the psycho-active drugs [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:BlankDrugChart.png] modify your ability to sense. Many enhance it. So yes, when you're high, you will enjoy your music more. Or less. Depending on the drug. - justinvt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Yep - That's a commercial alright. Usually I go out of my way to avoid watching ads...Guess that's just me though.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11weird, because i thought it was the best ad i'd ever seen.
- anymir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This has been on tv for awhile now..
Great band/song nonetheless. - edhm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7and then i had a seizure!
- Lomi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I think it can be said that Apples advertisements are quite memorable and do exactly what they are supposed to do... make you remember their product. I don't doubt it is a large part of why the iPod has become the defacto standard of mp3 players today. I like their ads.
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8No, it's totally different. The simplicity and silhouette implied a universal understanding of the impusles underlying music, whereas this cultural theming is based on a genre. It kills off everything that was great about the iPod ad, turning something genuine, timeless, universal and powerful into a fad that will eventually pass. I agree that the ads might eventually stale, but hell, that's a long time coming, and the replacement should really have the same values.
The iPod market is nearly saturated anyway. Maybe it's time to end the marketing and cut the prices until the next gen? - elShaggy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5lol, the Eminem ad wasnt targeted either. /rolleyes
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Perfect, Subliminal messaging inducing us to remember.
"When you are high, remember to BLAST your ipod so in to sync with that crazy ***** up brain of yours.
k thnx"
Excellent, Now let's all get high with our ipods. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What I find most amazing about apple adverts is the fact they manage to make the demographic that typically completely ignores advertising actually care
Personally, I look for good selling points, not videos of people dancing in front of a coloured background, before I buy something - mv10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The Commercial has been on TV for about 3 or 4 weeks now...
- BT-Wang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6why the hell is this on the front page?
- cybersamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3great point! ads are called 'ads' because we all see them all the time anyways - this means that it it is pointless and just stupid to submit this junk to digg. reported as spam.
- RobotCitizen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I like it. Hip hop gets all the attention these days. I'm glad this ad represents for good ol' Rock. And I see nothing wrong with targeting ads to different genre fans.
- dusingaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2actualy your wrong. they changed the ads look quite significantly with the eminem ad, and have only done a few since then.
- amhed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2MUY APERO
- uncleFester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"I support Apple, but for f**ks sake, do we really need to hear about Apple EVERY DAY?"
.. being as i'm reading this under the digg/apple section, am i the only one finding this comment funny? :)
-'fester - briansalo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey, it works... Why fix it if it ain't broken? :P
Although yeah, I'd like to see the marketing department come up with something completely different too. - schildkroeter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1or it's still just the standard 30 seconds you get for an ad on tv...
- schildkroeter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We don't really need "Switch" Ads for iPod!
Apple, just keep those silhouette ads coming please! :) - DeezKnots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I support Apple, but for f**ks sake, do we really need to hear about Apple EVERY DAY?"
Yes. - jamesthejust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And the buffer on HD based iPods probably lasts the length of that commercial!
Apple: How did said damage occur?
User: Well I was tripping on acid and dancing like a bellend (as per your latest ad) when... - Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No it's not... I have their self-titled..
- Cymrubeats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's weird...people complain about patents/technologies that stop you skipping ads or even changing the channel etc yet they post them on the net and people seem to lap it up...you (yes, you) genuinely are dumb.
- theonlyvlad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's because on the internet, I can easily click the link, or not click the link. My choice, and I can stop looking whenever I want. Some ads are actually good, some are worth even talking about (this one? maybe, maybe not). But on TV, any *good* ads are buried under the dozens of horrible ones, so you might as well skip them all.
- DeezKnots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great effective Ad. Now I want another iPod.
- sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"actualy your wrong. they changed the ads look quite significantly with the eminem ad, and have only done a few since then."
Except that wasn't even their idea.
Apple's OWN ideas for ads haven't really extended from silhouettes with music since that ad came out.
They ripped off The Postal Service for the Apple + Intel ad, they ripped off Lugz with the Eminem ad, and there was a bland iPod nano ad that came out months ago. - Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wolfmother rocks. What album is that song on?
- jamesthejust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cybersamurai,
'Ads' is short for advertisements.
You must be getting confused with Wastattas (we all see them all the time anyways). - Livewire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1being an apple ad, I'd say Shake
- jeromeerome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The song is from Wolfmothers self titled album. Really great album by the way.
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:1v851vk6zzpa - sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The ads aren't memorable.
I love Apple, but I personally cannot remember a specific iPod ad, what went on, what it said, and what music was played. The concept is what was memorable, but it's tired now.
You can't say you get that same wave of curiosity and "Woah, that's so cool!" when you see an iPod ad now as opposed to then. - theonlyvlad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If this is how one has to act while using an iPod, I'd like none of it thank you.
I think apple has saturated the market to the point where -- there are people who own iPods or know they'll buy them, and people who don't own them, to whom these commercials are almost a turn-off. - sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Great commercial? I think even "mediocre" would be an overstatement. It's pretty much the same as the other tired ads they've been doing for years.
Come on, why the hell is ANYONE digging this? It's a commercial, and not even a good one.
I love my iPod as much as the next person, but I don't love spam on digg. - Zzone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thats what's called Adobe After Effects.
- sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Apple will never stop marketing *****. They're making so much money (not from their computers, mind you) they don't know what the hell to do with it.
Apple's view on the iPod is about as modest as Nintendo's view of the Wii. - rick2k, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I like it!
- nayr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1why change the ad that's been selling the ipods like crazy?
- Skettalee, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6I love it. Great commercial!
- premedios, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I liked it
- walliswizard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That's not an ad - it's a film secretly captured in Apple's ipod QA department.
Explains why so many of the ipod hard-disks screw up... - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1goto apple.com.. they have that windows vs. mac ad showing on their front page now..
- ikickass, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1because it is
- PurpleYonder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Looks evil.
- digger_twit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Could of at least given us the direct link: http://images.apple.com/movies/us/apple/ipod_itunes-seventy/ipod_itunes-seventy-h.ref.mov
