- Juaquin, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5What if I want to take my US 3G AT&T-locked iPhone to the UK? Either I pay AT&T's ridiculous roaming rates, or I buy a cheap prepaid SIM in the UK and use one of these proxy SIMs. There are many reasons why a 3G unlock is important.

- iPanda, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Contracts expire, they can be cancelled, phones get sold, people on vacation don't want to pay ridiculous roaming charges. The unlock allows people to use any simcard.
The new Touch doesn't use simcards, came out after the 3G, has different hardware (the unlock is hardware based): so that would be my guess why the 3G gets priority over an ipod. Oh yeah, and from the blog posts it would seem that all the dev team members use their iphone more then they use their ipod (a guess). - drvfstnwild, on 11/21/2008, -1/+2Well I got the RebelSim and it works fine, I did have to do an update on the rebel sim though but the things needed to do this were all included with the package that I got. I did not have to sign a contract to get my phone ;) So that I why I did this. Also it is working in Afghanistan.... I have seen some other people around that have them as well, so I can only presume that they are using something similar. A whole lot easier than flashing the whole iPhone.

I also don't get why the dev team is so focused on this 3g unlock, which isn't the hugely needed solution the 2.5g unlock was. There are several different ones that don't require any cutting and programming, and that are easy as hell to install. Just put the proxy sim in the tray, slide the tray half-way in, slide your sim over the proxy sim and slide the tray all the way in. I've been using the iSmartPhone black proxy sim for about a month. Works great with my local GSM provider. You don't have to remove any thing to sync with iTunes either. Just do the jailbreak with pwnage tool and check "Activate the Phone".
- BabyWookie, on 11/21/2008, -1/+1I didn't have to sign a contract in order to get it. There's tons of them on eBay. There's no AT&T in my state... just a local GSM provider. My iPhone 3G works great with them, using one of these proxy sims.
