- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+70Wow. That's overpriced.
Oh wait, ipod.. nevermind. - leontes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+65Yes, the ultimate irony. Hyperbole is the most awesomest thing ever!
- TheLinux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I want to make one out of Devastatin' Dave -- Zip Zap Rap!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Nono, it's irony when it's made up of something that's quite similar to iron, but not quite iron.
- OdinEye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Well, makes no sense unless you *remember* that they were referred to as "45's" - the ones with the big holes, I mean.
[shakes head in sorrow at being old enough to remember this...] - spokenrope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"You were right. That story was ironic. I thought that irony was when something was made up completely of iron."
- generalleoff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Just warm the 45 and wrap it around the iPod. What guide do you need?
- RobotKing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9$45 for a melted 45 with fur inside? You can buy a 45 at a flea market for a dollar, or less, and make something just as ugly. Maybe even less ugly.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Homer: So, Mr. Malloy, it seems that the cat has been caught by the very person who was trying to catch him.
Skinner: How ironic. - skewh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I wonder if they thing it's cute or funny or something like that to make the price $45, because it's really not.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9At least the 911 conspiracy guys aren't pointing us to a myspace account anymore. Is there anyway Digg can just ban their IPs from logging in?
- krazytom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7That Dave is a Turntable Slave!
http://porktornado.diaryland.com/images/zipzaprap1.jpg - daines88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's got felt padding inside. But won't the vinyl itself get scratched to hell?
- gregduh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4just get your coat and leave
- aeiou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dude, don't worry, I'm only 20 and I even remember them being called 45's
- BeeMelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Weekend project! I'm so gonna make one of these.
- stormgren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Please shut up.
Thanks. - scubasteve03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Am I the only person that got out his iPod and a 45 RPM 7" phonograph record to see if the hole really was the same size?
- xister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Quote: "this is not an example of Irony it is merely a coincidence 98% of the time if someone uses the word it used improperly, this is yet another example except no one can find a good editor anymore certainly not Digg"
Speaking of needing a good editor... - malliemcg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think they are called 45's due to their RPM, there are other speeds out that were used for vinyl. 7"'s were typically used for singles and 12"'s used for full albums. I am pretty sure that regardless of size the 45rpm jobbies were always referred to as 45's. I'd heard of them referred that way, and I've never owned my own vinyl album ;)

Come on you guys! Do your research! - Tetraca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A 45 would do more than just scratch it...
- panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yet another example art imitating life.
- Anarkast, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6UGLY!
- mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I just blocked stupidppl, and I suggest you do too. This is the second article I've seen him post his random blogspam, the first time which I spent a few minutes trying to figure out what I was looking at.
- Myonosken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pity there aren't any good records there. Still, its a good idea, so I think I'm gonna go make one out of one of my old Vinyls.
- Peynis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess that depends on the weight of the record (120g / 180g / 220g) and how you drop it
I once accidentally dropped a 180g record and it fell right on the edge and broke into pieces... - Peynis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1vinyl itself is pretty resistant against scratches (much more than CDs)...it's the bad needles that caused the scratches
- TPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been to a few art fairs and festivals over the past year, and after seeing a few purses and bags made out of old vinyl, I'm surprised it's taken this long for someone to turn it into an iPod case.
- NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pretty clever, but it could shatter if you dropped it. Vinyl records weren't all that tough.
-jcr - NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No, they're far from "extremely tough". They're a whole lot better than the shellac 78s, but vinyl will still break on impact, especially in cold weather.
-jcr - Peynis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the whole of a 7" is a bit smaller than the wheel of my 4G iPod :(
- Peynis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1calling them 45 rpm records still makes no sense, even if it was common 20 years ago...
I'm still buying many records today, and I never heard anyone call a 7" record a "45"
btw, most recent records contain 45 rpm sides...some even are 33rpm on one side and 45rpm on the other - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2shame a well set up vinyl will system sound a million times better than an ipod. but they do not want you to actually properly enjoy music. Just get brainwashed and buy product and believe the government.
- scubasteve03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, vinyl records are extremely tough. You're thinking of the old 70ish RPMs used for victrolas. They were made of a more fragile material that shattered if you dropped it.
- surfing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What, no RIAA comments yet?
- sekyuritei, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Irony misuse of the day... heh... check out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ironic_%28song%29 - scubasteve03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's not ironic. If he gave up his turntable for an iPod that could only be played on a level surface, had to stay in one place (ie, not his pocket or car), and required frequent cleaning for play, THAT would be ironic.
- audible, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1that's just wrong.
- geniusNOTatWORK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh man, this is cool!
wait, Falco is sold out. I don't care anymore - nestafett, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Yeah, there cool looking, although does seem kinda spammish (I didn't think digg was a mall) plus in order to qualify as the most ironic thing ever, it should at least be ironic, which this is not. (a pet peeve of mine is the over use of that word)
- krazytom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it probably wouldn't be too hard to make them on your own. Heat up the vinyl and fold. But as you can see in the examples you would need to line it with something soft, otherwise you're kind of defeating the purpose of the case.
- tgunner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2A 45? That will scratch the hell out of an iPod.
- konspence, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Why is everyone on digg a self-proclaimed expert on irony?
- Azur3us, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's really expensive, I wonder if there is a guide to make them so we can use old records at home?
- MenageAMoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well - I like it!
- happy_prole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@malliemcg
as Peynis pointed out, you do come across occasional 12" records that are 45rpm. They usually contain one song on each side, like "45s." I have a few picture disc singles like this. But I wouldn't confuse ppl by calling them "45s," most ppl refer specifically to 7", 45rpm records as "45s." - DocCarroll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cute. Want the Gino Vannelli. Wouldn't expect it to protect well if you can't sit on it. And yeah $45!? That would mean I have a mint stuff away in dusty old boxes in my grandfather's basement. Think I'll make it myself.
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3GROOOOOOOOOOOVYYY
(get it? grooves in the vinyl.) - supercoolj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yawn
