- burgestr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Buried you for being a dumbass. There are still some of us out there that can't drop $2000+ every 6 months on a new PB/MBP. If you can, be sure to throw some cash my way when you get a chance!
- arbulus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10What the hell does it leave then? Models that are new enough to already have it built in?
- controlguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6dugg since I'm using a 2001 PowerBook
- burgestr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Using iScroll2 right now on my 15" PB G4 1.5GHz Aluminum. It's as good as it gets without having a new MB/MBP.
- flashingcurser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4A godsend to my older g4...
- SystemError, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the way it works it you click the DIGG IT next to the story not post it as comment
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This has been knocking around for a while. I had it on my Powerbook 12", but had to uninstall it because my system became unstable after installing it. After removal things went back to normal. Just a warning, although I haven't tried it in a while as I now have a MBP.
- sam10685, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@arbulus; works on my 12" powerbook that i bought in 2004. great app. i downloaded it a year ago. love it.
- crees!, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Old hardware? Nah, my 2003 Powerbook is still rocking away just fine. I've been using iScroll for well over a year now. Wonder why CLIFFosakaJAPAN just came across this. Wait, you mean he/she actually has a life?
- Dego, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think anyone who can't use this, can use
http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/sidetrack/index.html
15 bucks - SystemError, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3just tried on my old 400MHz ti book, not supported there ether
- ilcaffedio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This works great, but it's old news. I've used iScroll2 on my G4 iBook for over 2 years.
- unit101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I installed it on by iBook G4 and it worked well. Once I tweaked the settings on the Preference Pane it worked even smoother. The only thing I wish it supported was the two finger contextual click like the MacBooks. The alternative it provides is allowing you to touch the track pad with both fingers and then clicking the track pad button, which is extremely unintuitive and awkward. No wonder Apple patented the MacBook two-finger contextual click.
- imthe1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm using a 15" PB G4 800mhz. Still works great, although it isn't supported by iScroll2
- tsjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have a MacBook with two-finger scrolling. Love it, but didn't have it on my powerbook. I bought Sidetrack (yes, I support small software developers) and so far it's great plus has a lot of other features.
If you use it, I suggest buying it. It's not that expensive. - RationalAntaxia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5"Models that are known not to be supported include all G3 and Titanium PowerBooks, the very first 12" PowerBook model, all G3 iBooks, and all newer machines that come with two-finger-scrolling built-in"
welt.....there goes my PB - thelastknowngod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wow... this isnt 2 years old...
- thegeekpea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've used this on my PowerBook for years, but what I really want is to do this on my Windows laptop! Anyone know of a program that can do this?
- Bootes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want two finger tap right clicking for my Powerbook! :(
- smithro1984, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yes this software has been around donkeys years, but there is a new version which is probably why its been submitted.
- rekleiner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have been running this for a couple weeks. simply the best freeware app for an older g4. Much loves from here.
- ChumpChief, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Welcome to the 21st century...
- TheJuggernaut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I used a version on my previous aluminum Powerbook; I found it to be jerky and really unstable. When I upgraded to a new PB with 2-finger scrolling built in, I saw what it was supposed to work like -- smooth and intuitive. For what it's worth, I suggest avoiding this -- the company gets props for giving this a good shot, but the herky-jerky implementation leaves a lot to be desired. But still, try it for yourself -- it may have gotten better since the version I tried.
- carolinaws, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My wife as a 2006 12" MacBook that has this feature. My 2004 17" PB G4 is, of course, missing it.
Too funny this ended up on Digg today. While working this weekend I remembered this package and sought it out on Google. Installed it and was up and running. Awesome! It's worth the restart to install it. - ryguy314, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've had my Powerbook for close to 3 years (in July) and this software works like a charm. The scrolling is a bit touchy but it works.
Dugg. - Hollandboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1old but still cool. I use it.
- nigelelliott394, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1had it on my iBook about a month after 2 fingered scrolling was introduced...still digg it though, nice to not feel left out.
- mixpix405, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just a test - ignore me.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cocoa Suite (http://www.cocoasuite.com/ , $14.95) can do scrolling, gestures, and few other nifty things in Cocoa apps (basically, most things except Finder).
- MattyLite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Pretty cool. I paid for Sidetrack awhile back, and still love it.
- thanassius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been using this on my 12" PowerBook G4 1.33GHz since OS X 10.4.0 (almost 2 years now), and it works flawlessly. I forget its not built in when I use other people's similar machines and wonder why scrolling won't work.
- mugdecoffee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Any one know of some good alternatives for windows users? I would love to be able to use this on my laptop.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone have any recommendations for the sliders in the pref pane?
- CheeseheadDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Works on my 15" Powerbook G4.
- IcyMidnight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just installed it on my iBook G4. While the scrolling is nice (and why I downloaded and installed it) I love the two finger alternative click! No more mouse-modifier keys for me!
- SystemError, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now my old PB400mhz feels like my GFs Dell
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It would really depend on wether or not your trackpad can detect two distinct points of contact first.
- JonesJohnson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i've had this for nearly the life of my 15" pbook, and it's definitely clutch. 2finger up/down/side scrolling and 2finger right-click. sweet
- Amoeba16, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Trench report: Installed successfully on 12" PowerBook 1GHz under OS 10.4.9. First boot up following install was slow and showed from link-load errors for the original kernel extension, but once booted the dual finger scrolling worked peachy keen and is something I will definitely use when web browsing.
- RequiaNocturne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's an unlimited free trial, too. If you don't mind clicking "register later" once everytime you start your powerbook, it's definitely worth it.
- arbulus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Another program that does that is Unsanity's Shapeshifter. That thing bogged my MacBook Pro down like crazy. I could boot the thing in under 10 seconds before, but when I had Shapeshifter on, it would take it sometimes up to a minute. After I deleted it, it went back to the way it was.
- arbulus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How long is a donkey year?
- sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My powerbook had this built in, yet it saws that the model that I have is compatible. I am confused, because if I install it, it will render my trackpad useless.
- kris33, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is one of the reasons I just LOVE my MacBook :)
- ellem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is ancient!
The product does work on my 15 PB 1.5 as expected though. - Luigi30, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Why did I think of that photoshopped finger picture when I saw the title?
- TKn00b, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2doesn't support my ibook either
- allancorbett, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I love two finger scrolling on my MBP so as long as it works for other people then (Y)
- Greenline, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Dugg
- TheMacThinker, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Do not install this on any model that already has the two finger scrolling. You may screwup the apple built-in driver.
