- pickupjojo, on 04/20/2009, -15/+191We need a way to enable Growl notifications and to hide the dock icon.
Please, Loren! - lorenb, on 04/20/2009, -12/+160My pleasure :).
And yep, Growl notifications (and per-account notification prefs) are coming. Note Growl.framework is already bundled into the app. - mutuz, on 04/20/2009, -19/+91Best Twitter app for Mac OS!
- smarty927, on 04/20/2009, -15/+56I've used all the various Twitter apps for my Mac. This by far is the most elegant of all of them. It combines the power of TweetDeck but the simplicity of Twitteriffic. Great job Atebits.
- seanm, on 04/20/2009, -4/+34Here is the reply from the developer regarding Growl support:
"Note that Growl.framework is already bundled in the app ;). Coming really soon!"
Good news. Really fantastic app here, just like the iPhone version. - zwei, on 04/20/2009, -6/+33To turn off the dock icon all you have to do is right-click the app and select "Show Package Contents" then open up the file "Info.plist" in textedit and add the following text right after <dict>...
<key>LSUIElement</key>
<string>1</string>
No more dock icon. To get it back, remove those two lines from the Info.plist (or change the 1 to a 0) - ZieST, on 04/20/2009, -16/+36Great app, kudos to Loren Brichter
- lorenb, on 04/20/2009, -3/+17Yep, you're hitting an old Twitter bug.
http://atebits.posterous.com/twitter-profile-image ...
Re-uploading your profile image should fix it within a few days. - darkism, on 04/20/2009, -0/+14It's nice to see a Mac challenger to Twitterific that's not some AIR garbage.
- amsoell, on 04/20/2009, -15/+29This is seriously a fantastic piece of software. If you like Twitterrific, but want the latest features that are most often found in multicolumn apps like TweetDeck or Seesmic, you'll love Tweetie for Mac.
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -3/+13Free version? Yes please.
- mattharvey716, on 04/20/2009, -1/+9am i the only mac user still on tiger???
- frontaxle, on 04/20/2009, -12/+19Even works great on a sucky G4
- ofenza, on 04/20/2009, -0/+6Tweetdeck is fugly.
- addiktion, on 04/20/2009, -3/+9MY windows machine is jealous. It looks great though and I wish I had something like it on Windows Vista/7.
- PaulClayberg, on 04/20/2009, -9/+15(Some comment about how Twitter is pointless)
- NielsBE, on 04/20/2009, -12/+18Congratulations on this magnificent piece of software!
- mochaman, on 04/20/2009, -7/+13Good for him, but I'm not paying for Tweetie. There are plenty of really good tools for free.
- amsoell, on 04/20/2009, -2/+8I'm not sure what you mean by "native," since Twitter doesn't support native groups. But the developer has said -- or at least implied -- that he's not going to support a half-assed, client-side grouping solution that isn't supported by the Twitter API.
I've heard rumors, though, that Twitter is working on implementing that on the server side in some manner. - Roland21, on 04/20/2009, -0/+6Wow look at all the mac's haters come out on this thread. OMG, ZOMG... jizz. BFD!!!
- spiraltri3e, on 04/20/2009, -4/+10You don't like Macs or Twitter yet you're in here reading about them? Busy man.
- BabyWookie, on 04/20/2009, -0/+5It's a great tool for co-ordinating your local anonymous truck stop buttseks meet-ups.
- ofenza, on 04/20/2009, -2/+7This is exactly the kind of upgrade I was hoping Twitterrific to make. The app looks and feels great. I wonder what happened with the developers of Twitterrific. Did they just stopped caring?
- owaters, on 04/20/2009, -5/+10Make that any platform!
- MtheoryX, on 04/20/2009, -0/+5You don't use many 3rd party apps on the Mac then.
See: OmniGroup - mason092, on 04/20/2009, -2/+6Ok, first tell my why anyone cares what I am doing at any given moment. Why do I care exactly what anyone else is doing at any given moment.
Spare me the "LOL, you must not have friends!" argument. I could argue that you use twitter because you don't have friends and you need to make yourself feel important by telling random people what you are doing. - eadnams, on 04/20/2009, -0/+4Your ignorance is showing, may want to cover that up with some research, very embarrassing.
- birch25, on 04/20/2009, -2/+6It's definitely the most powerful one I've used but I'm a big fan of Twitterific and Pwitter's small footprint. The search feature may be enough by itself to get me to switch though!
- BossKey, on 04/20/2009, -0/+4The fatal flaw of widgets is that unless you do the developer mode trick, you can never, ever use a widget alongside other apps. You are forced to enter the parallel Dashboard universe and are unable to use your regular apps until you exit Dashboard, but then that hides all your widgets.
I only use widgets when I need a piece of information I won't need to see two minutes from now while I'm working.
I much prefer standalone apps that I can monitor right next to my other apps as I work. - Boyce, on 04/20/2009, -11/+15It does work smoothly.
It states the free version is ad-supported - so far...no ads yet in my testing; however, since it is such a well-coded piece of software I would imagine the ads will start flowing soon - the Registration menu even states the introductory price until May 4th, so the app is very dynamic and can obviously change via online...nice.
They also state the ads are "some of the most beautiful around," so I think I'm going to stick with the free version to see what that is all about and how bearable that is - I don't mind ads if they are tastefully integrated and non-obtrusive. I don't mind paying an extra $5 after May 4th for such a great piece of software - plus, supporting them via clicking on the occasional ad (that might interest me) will net them much more PPC money over time than me dropping $15-$20 to begin with.
The one question I have is if the registration price is just for that major build version and updates, or if it includes lifetime updates. It doesn't say that anywhere (as that would also be a nice selling point), so I have to imagine there will be future costs involved for major releases.
Great work, atebits! - Me1000, on 04/20/2009, -2/+6I don't mind paying for things if I feel like I get something for what I pay for!
- CoreyTamas, on 04/20/2009, -2/+6It nearly approaches the feeble bitterness of your post.
- wibs, on 04/20/2009, -0/+4You can use the standard keyboard shortcut to open app preferences even if there's no dock icon/
Just select the tweetie window first, then hit command-, (comma)
You also shouldn't be losing your menu bar - although I used NSUIElement instead of LSUIElement. Not sure what the difference is. - Fishnchipsman, on 04/20/2009, -1/+5You should get a discount if you bought the iPhone app.
- piratebr0adcast, on 04/20/2009, -5/+9Open source won't pay the rent
- shedtroll, on 04/20/2009, -2/+6...And it's all ready on TPB
- harris, on 04/20/2009, -1/+4You lose the menu bar when using this hack.
- MacParrot, on 04/20/2009, -2/+5Oh you're so unkind! His bitterness isn't feeble at all! He obviously pratices very hard at being bitter and I'm sure he looks forward to the day when he can tell kids to get off his lawn and not look like an ass.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3http://blog.atebits.com/2009/02/twitter-groups/
ie, don't expect them anytime soon. - fwg001, on 04/20/2009, -2/+5The best multi-account twitter client for mac by far!
- srujanlive, on 04/21/2009, -0/+3Awesome app Loren and thanks for having a free version. Growl notifications and tweet numbers are all I would request. Thanks again.
- se1zure, on 04/20/2009, -0/+3Looks good. Just a side note, your website has some display issues in google chrome:
http://i39.tinypic.com/xdcjzq.jpg - Rousterfar, on 04/20/2009, -3/+6Why are people digging you down? It's your OPINION.
- nunofgs, on 04/20/2009, -1/+4I'm sorry you guys hated it. I said they were small UI tweaks. Nothing more. Nobody forced you to watch it.
@Goblin: very true. I said I was loving the app, and didn't lie. It was just a few suggestions for a few UI quirks. - statc, on 04/20/2009, -1/+3I think that twitter apps like tweetdeck, seesmic and now tweetie make one large usability mistake: They assume that when I have the app open, it will be the main focus of what I'm doing. By the very nature of twitter, I don't think this is the case for most users IMO most users have a twitter app running in the background that they occasionally check/tweet. I don't want something that I'm only going to check periodically to take up most my screen. This is the reason why I prefer apps like DestroyTwitter. Small footprint( relatively, since it's an AIR app) and has a very condensed but usable UI.
- eadnams, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2I have a feeling its coming, the iphone app does it.
- zackkitzmiller, on 04/20/2009, -3/+5Installation?
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -2/+4It's free if you use the ad supported version, idiot.
Also, I'm not OS dependent - but Macs come with waaaaaaaay more usable bundled software than anything loaded with Windows... (but yeah, there's a ton of free Linux stuff if you use Linux) - Amplix, on 04/20/2009, -0/+2Maybe it's cause you probably didn't notice there's a free version...?
- SurrealDream, on 04/20/2009, -2/+4For me : Keeping up with movie/game news snippets in the middle of the day, and keeping in touch with random people who there's no point sending long emails etc to.
If you don't like it, don't use it. -
