- BenSerwa, on 10/12/2007, -5/+92If you thought "piece of *****" and not "point of sale", this software isn't for you...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -31/+87The title is really misleading. I usually think of POS as being "piece of *****", ie: Your PC is a POS.
- TheIguana, on 10/12/2007, -3/+41Just so the mirror link is at the top, for all you lazy people

- tomhutchinson, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32Why in the world would it be free? That is some heavy-duty software from the looks of it, you can't expect people to give that sort of thing away.
- axman6, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24"Need I go on?"
No, you've already gone to far.
Of course it wouldn't be free, it's a POS system, for helping you make money, and of course they'll want money for that. It's a very well polished, and from the looks of it easy to use system, and if I had a business, I'd pay for it to.
Al. - kuribo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22And, as it's been said a million times, some people DO need the full path, because their browser doesn't support (or they block) referrers.
- douggmc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25yuck ... brushed metal. thats so 2002.
- jtrost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15That's because web hosting is completely different than point of sale.
- bitmeizer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Why doesn't digg just list diggmirror with the article automatically, since it is so often guilty of killing websites, leading people to link to digmirror...
- kokorhekkus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Except that a really good point-of-sale system for more complex transactions where the SALESPERSON is authorized to make actual decisions about the sale price need some kind of quoting and/or invoicing provisions. I'm not saying this system is perfect but POS systems may need flexibility because of what the people on the floor decides or how quickly the store has to respond to competing businesses. So a POS might just be a cash register (as in a fast food chain) or something more.
- jaydj, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18I wonder how many people are clicking/digging/burying without even thinking "point of sale"
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11It's about time there's a mac POS system besides Apple's in-house Apple store application!
If only these guys would show up at some trade shows other than Macworld Expo. . . - NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Looks impressive.

You're missing the point. Point of sale systems should run pretty lightweight to minimize lag time and increase productivity. You can achieve that with old hardware and POS systems built on Linux or even Windows. There's definitely no need to use premium hardware for a purpose that requires only the basics. - InSeverance, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9From the looks of the screenshots this thankfully doesn't look like a "Cha-Ching":
Style over substance.
Impressive app, but I unfortunately have no need for it. - foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14"Any retail company that uses OSX has too much money."
Sorry, I meant
"Any retailer that uses OSX has too much money."
The former sounded weird - jer084, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9If I had a business, I'd want to run that. I work in retail and use crappy text based out-of-date software. Despite its primitiveness and lack of features, it crashes way too often.
- nlogax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Hmm, I don't need POS software myself, but there is also this one:
http://www.checkoutapp.com/
At least it looks nicer. :P - kokorhekkus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Depends on how easy it is to handle. If you do retail business then cost of the system will most probably be a drop in the ocean compared how much time you need implement changes in the systems (very few items in retail stays the same in price or availability)
- adodaro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I use this at my work and I can say that it's very, very mac-like (We're an apple reseller) and the back end of the program that manages all of the invoices/orders is really nice too. You can really do a lot with thing. It really lets us keep track of our stock, sales, etc etc.
And it's easy to pick up---very intuative. I'd recommend this for any small business. - MikeWeller, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I really like the apple interface. It looks so damn nice when compared to windows.
- captainchris, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6actually 749 is pretty good considering businessvision for windows is a lot more. also, hooray for montreal! looks like xsilva is from there, if i were ever to run a business i'd consider this program from the looks of it.
- nuclearpenguins, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9As a business owner myself I see nothing here worth shelling out extra money for a Mac.
- billymachine, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12This ad is spamming up my Digg.

remove brush. - antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Weird, using OpenDNS gave me this:

Did you mean Silva features? - tigerpaper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Unfortunately, the jump to all new mac hardware seems like a scary prospect for most small businesses. I have to deal with NXT lightspeed POS on a daily basis and it blows.
- bikeidaho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4You must use Vitalink.
- triska, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@bitmeizer
I imagine it's a balance of spreading out bandwidth use to the sites that can handle it, and making a service available to help those sites that can. In all likelihood, digg may just not be able to afford the traffic that a mirror of EVERY story generates, but is able take the load off when it's necessary.
Perhaps an auto-detecting feature that notices when a site goes down could replace the front page link with the duggmirror one interactively. - weiran, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Someone still likes Metal...
- alantocheri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Although not quite as 'complete', I like Checkout more. http://www.checkoutapp.com/
- zodieman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2POS systems should not require the use of a mouse. We resell the Wasp QuickStore software and while it's not the prettiest system I can teach a newbie to use it in about 10 minutes all without using a mouse.
What we really need is a Mac POS system that works and looks like a Mac but has the efficiency of QuickStore in terms of using function keys and/or a touch screen. - waylandchin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how does this compare to checkout? what are the pros and cons for each?
- BassJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks slick, very iTunes-esq! Wish where I used to work had this system, we got a new system implemented before I left, but that went through 2-3 revisions or updates in the time I was there with it (about 12 months) and it was still based on a windows platform but it was a Java app!! Anyhow at least it looked more professional then the Unix terminal we had orignally that collapsed on our store opening night at 2am in the morning!! I was SOOO glad I wasn't on the tills then - queues to the back of the store and the cashiers working on manual paper receipts with calculators :-P
- Gideon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*EDIT*
- bluemansteele, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not misleading. If you'd ever bought a point of sale machine, then it would make sense to you. If it had been called Point of Sale would you care?
- tikistyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah i used to sell that as well. It was a pretty easy sell once you got the customer's hands on it. Simple is better.
- Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1*giggles* POS... piece of *****.... hahahahaha *immature*
- dc45, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Does it support multiple stores? It doesn't look like it. Single Store POS systems aren't anything special.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't believe it uses brushed metal. Come on.
- farazyashar, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9http://duggmirror.com
- nomore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It looks kind of amaturish IMO. Compared to a lot of Windows apps, it looks good, but there are much nicer looking GUIs on the Mac.
Still, it might be one of the best looking point-of-sale apps at the moment. - Darthmalt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2so you're saying that the POS is a POS
- Bjornstrom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd say the reverse is kind of true. My Mac Pro is the cheapest computer I've ever owned – there's little support needed. PC's are banned in my work environment, but running Parallells is ok since you can just re-open the window when it crashes.
- jsreid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I used to use that system. For the most part it was really easy to use.
- coryjb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1B-E-A-utiful, but with a $749 license. Maybe I'll reconsider. What do you guys think?
- pubman5001, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1A license for Microsoft Retail Management System is about $850 so the OSX one aint that bad
- yottabite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Don't forget the GSX tie-ins!
- TheWedge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Or you just don't know computer business lingo...
