adium FTW! - lkv87, on 10/10/2007, -5/+132To the Adium team: Add voice and video support so I dont ever have to use iChat. Thanks.
- cave, on 10/10/2007, -12/+113Trillian is trash. Adium on OSX and Miranda on Windows ftw.
- KyjL, on 10/10/2007, -4/+59[Obligatory thrashing of Trillian]
- mepawl, on 10/14/2007, -1/+44Adium needs voice/webcam, then it will be ULTIMATE WIN!
- KenCrandall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+43I'd rather see Adium for Windows (or better yet, Linux) than this...
- flashboy131, on 10/10/2007, -2/+40predictable pro-Adium reply
- eddieroger, on 10/10/2007, -6/+42Maybe not so eloquent, but it gets the point across - Adium is already kind of Mac messaging.
- swicepick, on 10/10/2007, -5/+41Seriously. How about Adium for my Windows machine instead? That would be way better than Trillian on my Mac.
- Drewboy64, on 10/10/2007, -5/+36BRING IT BITCH! ADIUM FTW! WOO HOO! : )
- BayAreaKing, on 10/10/2007, -7/+37"Trillian is trash. Adium on OSX and Miranda on Windows ftw."
What are the chances...
http://www.mirandawindows.com/index.asp - trylleklovn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26And that "whatever" is libpurple, basicly adium is just gaim with a killer gui.
- Jakerius, on 10/10/2007, -3/+28Not learning how to reply is ***** lame.
- Cwo655321, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26yeah, but now it can suck on OSX
- aliceinreality, on 10/11/2007, -8/+31Buried for trying to bring crappy IM clients to OS X.
- antdude, on 10/10/2007, -4/+26Competition is a good thing!
- ericdano, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24Adium is a great IM. Why would I want Trillian? I ditched that on my XP machine and use Pidgin instead. Works fine.
- Closeminded5228, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21asinine announcement of alliteration
- McGriddles, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21It will probably take forever for it to even come out, just like Trillian Astra
- Dumbledorito, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19Literally?
- antdude, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21Disconnections? I don't get those.
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20It's called Pidgin. Adium is just the OS X version of Pidgin, really.
- theundone, on 10/15/2007, -2/+19Trillian was always my favorite client for Windows and I never had trouble with it, but now that I've been using a Mac with Adium, Trillian just seems bloated. I think the Astra UI is really ugly, too.
- LeonardNimrod, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17IF they use Xcode and take cues from AdiumX they may acaully make a decent product, but with Adium being such a sgreat free product I just don't see the need.
I would love to see AdiumX as an SSL web based client for iPhone users. That is something I could really use. - ApplCmptrDood, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Nonsensical statement involving plankton.
- DagYo, on 10/10/2007, -3/+18used trillian on pc.
got adium now.
don't want trillian. - totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Adium is so ingrained to me it seems like part of OS X at this point.
- insinuate, on 10/10/2007, -4/+19=/ What the hell? I've been using Trillian for years and have never experienced all these problems from the hate spewing I hear.
- greekgoat91, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15wow, that guy has a great uni-brow
- unloud, on 10/10/2007, -4/+18C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!
- Macskeeball, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16Trillian's interface is horrendous. Adium, on the other hand, is very much a killer app.
- hotdamn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13I don't want to trash Trillian, since I am sure it has useful and nice features, but it's busy and overloaded look does not play nice with the Mac GUI.
- Lapper, on 10/10/2007, -6/+18I've heard nothing but bad things about Trillian. There's literally no way I'm switching from Adium.
- ChromaVita, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Attempt at humor that takes it too far.
- c0d3z3r0, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13No thanks, I rather have Adium.
- cave, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13"I'm a Trillian pro user..."
I'm sorry. - DrewBlood, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I use Pidgin for Windows and Adium on my Hackbook, and I prefer the polished interface on Adium...overall, yeah, they're pretty equivalent but the little things matter sometimes.
- IcerC, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12First they need a GOOD windows product... Astra... wasn't that mentioned a year+ ago
- greystar, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12I left Windows for Mac, so why would I use a Windows app (just ported for the Mac) when Adium RULES!!!!!!
- PoeticExplosion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Astra _is_ good, even in alpha. At least, I like it.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Another happy Trillian user to question the disconnect problem. I've run Trillian under XP and Vista, with and without P2P running, and I've never had a problem that wasn't related to losing my entire 'net connection (i.e. a thunderstorm).
However, Trillian is often a crap shoot when it comes to file transfers. I get about a 50 percent success rate. - blackjack75, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12Trillian has been out on macs for months...
.. it just hasn't finished loading yet. - Amplix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9jumps on the bandwagon too late
- TheCount, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9From what I understand, they can't add video because whatever they built Adium on top of doesn't support it.
- Books, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Or we could just use Adium?
- WhereAmI, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12Nor do I. I guess people don't know all that porn they torrent can have adverse effects on messengers, all of them. Pidgin and Trillian included.
- madmage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7My favorite application on windows was Firefox.
My favorite application on the mac is Firefox.
There are some very good cross-platform apps. - dragon76, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9The developers of Adium are very devoted to their users, I'm one of them. They try very hard to balance user requests with usability. They've done an amazing job of adding advanced features without ruining the application. There are still rough edges but it's always viewed as a work in progress and developers are quick (within a few days) to respond to bug reports.
It's incredible to see a free and open application with the quality and development meeting or exceeding commercial software. But then again, it IS Mac software. ;-) - MattGilley, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7How the hell would it be a turning point, you speak like we haven't had multi-protocol instant messaging apps on the Mac before.
- superal1394, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6well, then they need to get creative now don't they?
