I did not read that wall of text, and now you don't have to either. - inactive, on 02/07/2010, -4/+25Can't beat the ipod, for my money.
- BeShirtHappy, on 02/07/2010, -5/+20iPhone FTW.
- fluidfoundation, on 02/07/2010, -0/+14Note to writer: Bold your ordered list headings next time.
- sierrabravo, on 02/07/2010, -2/+15ipod is #1 in my book. I take it everywhere. I've had the ipod classic for three years and the battery has never given me trouble.
- amon91, on 02/07/2010, -0/+6Apple won't be at Macworld. Notice how there's very little press this year, not a good sign. :(
- GunForHireUK, on 02/07/2010, -2/+8iTunes? Really? The store maybe, but as an app itself iTunes blows chunks. The amount of frustration that POS has caused me over the years is ridiculous. Yes iTunes, I really did want you to wipe my iPhone/iPod, again, without prompting. Dick.
- tudormuscalu, on 02/07/2010, -0/+5What?!!!
No pictures? - Nephersir7, on 02/07/2010, -3/+8cool story bro
- deaftly, on 02/07/2010, -2/+7no ipad?
- Nickedynick, on 02/07/2010, -0/+4I bought an 80 gig iPod Classic not long after they came out and have been honestly quite disappointed. For me the sound quality is really poor for a device which has the main function of playing music. In fact, most of my mp3 playing phones sound superior. Granted, most of them were Sony Ericssons, but even my G1 is better and that doesn't even have a dedicated 3.5mm jack.
- FearlessFreep, on 02/07/2010, -0/+4bury you because it's about the itunes *Store* not the itunes *App*
- Inv4der, on 02/07/2010, -1/+4No pics, no read, no win.
Yahoo you should know better, seriously. - Khast, on 02/07/2010, -0/+3I am not an Apple fan by any means. However, I will say that this list is pretty spot on. I still have my old PowerPCs running OS 7.5. (Hey, I work on computers, I am bound to get Apples too.)
In it's day, the Apple ][ was better than anything the consumer could buy for a "reasonable" price. (Hell, back then the Apple ][ and the Commodore were the ONLY reasonably priced computers. Commodore was better, but was released nearly 3 years after the ][) - planetexpress, on 02/07/2010, -1/+4HTML 5 has these fancy header tag things for a reason, i wish people would keep up with the times and use this stuff where it's intended.
Oh wait no, they've been there since 1.0! - ttam, on 02/07/2010, -0/+3bonus points for mentioning System 7.
- ehaugan, on 02/07/2010, -1/+4Considering its not even released yet, no.
- TexMexRex, on 02/07/2010, -0/+3And maybe some photos?
- nbaughman, on 02/07/2010, -0/+2totally dugg down for that very reason.
- crackinthebox10, on 02/07/2010, -0/+2never, and no.
- arunforce, on 02/07/2010, -2/+4Are you blind? It's listed at #2.
- GelfTheElf, on 02/07/2010, -0/+2I think I'm going to go to MacWorld expo, put an iPad encased in a glass box, and drill a small camera shaped hole at the top and see how many things come up on the digg homepage. Maybe i'll make a fake app called iVideoChat and put it on the home screen along with Skype.
- dabestdefense, on 02/07/2010, -0/+2Yeah like having a list of the 10 hottest women without a picture, Apple is shiny!
- Syric, on 02/07/2010, -0/+2I appreciate the fact that the article doesn't seem to have been written by Apple fanboys.
- Problematic, on 02/07/2010, -0/+2No, 2 is Ipod Touch with telephone capabilities.
- Rudegar, on 02/07/2010, -0/+2What?!!!
No video clip? - wild, on 02/07/2010, -0/+2Wow, that was surprisingly in depth and well written. I might have disagreed with a few things, but I can't argue their clearly explained logic.
It's nice to see some well researched, long form content on digg from time to time. Well done. - fabio1, on 02/07/2010, -0/+2goddamnit. a top ten list with apple products in then. This will have more diggs than keyboard cat has hits on youtube.
- ottawaj, on 02/07/2010, -0/+2My favorite will be the last one.
- anubis2night, on 02/07/2010, -0/+2man you weren't kidding with the wall of text. And not one picture? buried for that alone
- gaymathman, on 02/07/2010, -1/+2The iTunes store is still bad; it's about the most restrictive, DRM laden store in the world and is accessed through iTunes. There's not even a HTML version for browsing without iTunes.
- Rudegar, on 02/07/2010, -0/+1itunes the program or itunes the store ?
the store is just html which only works in the program
and the program was something apple bought didn't make from scratch
the fact how closely they tied ipods and iphones to the program makes it widespread though - Nephersir7, on 02/07/2010, -3/+4FairPlay
- smitty97, on 02/07/2010, -0/+1replace iTunes with the SE/30 and then you've got a list.
- TheHungerArtist, on 02/07/2010, -0/+1the itunes store was what was mentioned, they even said that the itunes as a music player was subpar
- Rudegar, on 02/07/2010, -0/+1fan donations don't count!
- MrChunks, on 02/07/2010, -0/+1It's not even a list. It's a big old bunch of words.
- ramy33, on 02/07/2010, -0/+1Their not even bolded or made a bigger font.
/bitter - knute5, on 02/07/2010, -0/+1Whuh? Massive omissions, not necessarily in order of importance:
1. Hypercard - epic app. Father of all modern interactive multimedia development
2. The Original MacOS - so much of today's modern GUI comes from it
3. Powerbook 540c - this totally changed the laptop landscape
4. Original iPod - FW, 1.8" drive, wheel, UI - it set the standard for all others
5. The puck iMac mouse - just kidding ... that sucked. - thisthatwhat, on 02/07/2010, -0/+1The store is great and the app is bloated.
iTunes app frustrations:
- Always wants to update itself (Stupid Apple Software Update window pops up every so often)
- Installs Safari with it too (what a pain)
- Loads a ton of services run in the background
- Slow and big -- UI takes up too much of the screen. - elmundio87, on 02/07/2010, -0/+1works fine for me
- Morokon, on 02/07/2010, -0/+1Apple ][ should be number 1 : without it, Apple would not have gone from a 2-person, back of a garage company to a billion dollar one.
The Apple 1 had sold in microscopic amounts. - thaguru, on 02/07/2010, -0/+1there was also Honorable Mention: Newton
personally, I love the Mac Mini and OS X nowadays. started on Mac Plus -> Mac IIsi -> Powerbook Duo 230...then got stuck with crappy work Windows notebooks for about 10 years. - waydee, on 02/07/2010, -2/+2I was about to say, if iTunes is one of Apples best products I don't ever want to encounter their worst. Awful, awful piece of software.
- mrkmrk, on 02/07/2010, -2/+2Also considering that it is a stupid piece of *****, and undeserving of a spot on this list, no.
- rheaume, on 02/07/2010, -1/+1#1. Lisa
- shuukiru, on 02/07/2010, -3/+3i, for one, love itunes.
- wilhoitm, on 02/07/2010, -1/+1You can add the iPad to that list! Mark my words! Don't hate!
- osabr22000, on 02/07/2010, -4/+411. iliver
- Khast, on 02/07/2010, -1/+1Actually, I disagree. There are moments when it is nice to acknowledge the best of. Just about every company which produces hardware or software has a best and worst. Microsoft hasn't hit everything on the mark 100% either...Bob? (And this thing had bits and pieces which cursed us until 2007.) Windows ME?
Oh, and I am not biased toward Apple, 8 out of 12 computers in my house are running some variant of the Windows OS, 3 run MacOS, and 1 runs Linux. They all have their place and function. -
