- mleaman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36I dare not use this! I'll keep living the lie.
- chrisholland, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20imho, Blossom is by far the worthiest project on the mydreamapp project.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I've got a better idea.
Some sort of USB dongle, plugged into your computer and the other end buried in the soil of a real plant. If you work, it'll water the plant. If you don't, it won't. I'd feel much more concerned about killing a real plant sitting on my desk, rather than a picture on my desktop.
Though I could just cheat and water it myself, then go back to digging in peace... Hmm. - ajcip2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16STOP POSTING APPS THAT DON'T EXIST YET!!!!
damn tease. - evilTak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Love the lie!
- neom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10This is waaaaaay cooler than that other app that was on the front page today. I lke the one about the weather too...!
- klezmer41, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Holy crap this is cool! Make it now I want to use it!
- PeaElAre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7by the way, the gui is incredible.
- bettermentflux, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I don't use OSX, but I love the idea and the interface. I couldn't help notice the "consequences" slider. In the mockup it appears that the consequences are to your bonsai plant wallpaper. I wonder if that could be changed to something less benign, like cutting off web access. Severe consequences = electric genital shock via USB strap-on.
- redrighthand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Now Im glad that I use a PC at work otheriwise it would always show a pot of dirt. I would love to have this at home though
- PeaElAre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6this is a great idea. nice work, dan.
- bsczap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5No computer of mine is going to shame ME.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Can we just give each of the apps a frontpage slot right now and get it over and done with?
- corta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I know it might seem kinda silly, but this stuff has been proven to work. (It's simple behaviorism as invented by B.F. Skinner. The same way you train your dog, with positive and negative reinforcement, you can train yourself. Not to condescend to y'all by posting the wikipedia article on reinforcement, here's a book about the subject:

- tomisina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4this is just going to force me to use lynx to hide my digging addiction...
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, well most of the apps on mydreamapp have nice UIs. It's a contest for designers to submit their apps. Even if these don't win since the art exists i'm sure a programmer out there will offer their services if they like the idea :)
- schmidtl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3BRILLIANT!
- allarise, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Am I the only one who wishes that all the Apps in competition right now would get made.
- Slayback, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This does look like a neat app, but what about for people that need something now?
For those on any platform needing to track time spent on the web (non-work related sites), you can try the TimeTracker ( https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1887/ ) extension for Firefox.
If you need a better idea of what you're doing in Windows across all applications, take a look at TimeSnapper ( http://www.timesnapper.com/ ). - Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'd like it better if there was something you could actually download. Am I missing something, or is this concept software still just a concept?
- dohidied, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Lol, it's just going to tell me that I use Firefox far more than Xcode or Terminal.
- xtr3m, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Too bad that the majority of diggers are on Windows.
- DNABeast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I need to simply hook up a plant to my bank account. That's proper feedback.
- tleisher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Make this for Windows XP/Vista or Linux, I'd love you forever.
- imikedaman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4And by "offer their services" you mean shamelessly rip off the idea and cash in without due royalties to the original submitters.
- tbob19, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cool idea, would like to see it in action.
- stewacide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hijack FTW :)
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It'll just log it as "Safari" unless you explicity tell it to label it as Digg and you can tell your plant that safari is a productive app so your tree can grow when you're digging and die when you're working. Reverse tree ftw, then your boss can look at the tree and go "oh, he's working" muahahaha
- Quintus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The portability of the USB dongle would be greatly diminished by the large pot of soil.
And tank of water. - Brainsforsale, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't believe this isn't number one. While all of the apps are great ideas, there are plenty of cookbook applications. Vote Blossom in Round 4!
- MicrowavedH2o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think ground control would be baller...
a dock replacement with dashboard functionality! - chrisholland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2lol. your strap-on idea made my day. hahahaa brilliant! :)
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3you mean the one that doesn't exist other than in PhotoShop yet?
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm on Windows but I digg the apple stuff still because hey, Apple is alright. I don't really care about it but I just digg it for the hell of it. The digg system is already screwed enough, i'm not the only one digging stuff I don't read or care about :P
- LaCamiseta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Cool, but I still think that a lot of that (tracking wise) is done with Onlife - http://www.ethomaz.com/onlife/
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"And by "offer their services" you mean shamelessly rip off the idea and cash in without due royalties to the original submitters."
Oh right, forgot this was the Mac platform where you have to pay for everything. I'm a Linux guy where we get it all free and open =O - sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I like both Blossom and Atmosphere in the MyDreamApp contest. Blossom of course has a more productive focus, but either way, great looking apps.
- neom, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Really? With all the apple news I see on the front page.. that makes me wonder. Maybe they just put up so much mac news to make the windows users feel bad. ;)
:D - neom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3lol, i was thinking the same thing!!
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Dugg down for pointing out a user gaming the system, man i love digg
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3No thanks, I'm in denial.
- lilrabbit129, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I'm starting to get annoyed at this contest. Every time an app is mentioned on digg it gets my hopes up, but turns out its just an idea of an app...
- loltastic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I would like to know this too...
- Room214, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Would it diagnose my ADD and provide the appropriate prescription and dose?
- iQuinn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1As many have suggested, the digg entry is very misleading. The title should suggest that it is for the (overly-hyped) mydreamapp competition.
- Sun.Surfin, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I know this has been touched on by a lot of previous commenters, but could we please give this contest coverage a rest?! Every single time a single thing happens in the mydreamapp contest, a story on it gets submitted to digg. It happened with round one, round two, and it's sure to happen on round three. How many apps that aren't even apps yet have made it to the homepage now? At least three I'm sure...
Get it through your head that if I were interested in this competition, I would be already paying attention (as I am)! I've seen every single thing mentioned here when the mydreamapp round 1 thread was made... I don't need to see it all again...
Sorry if I sound like a troll, but this is getting as bad as the Apple rumour stories when it comes around a Keynote Tuesday....
The URL to get all this news is http://mydreamapp.com ... we get it... - blakespot, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1How do you download this?
